Upcoming Larps in Wellington

Here’s the latest information about LARP’s that are going to be run in Wellington. Plus a hint about games that are in the pipeline.

April 19 -21st 2013 Hydra

nzlarps.org/hydra/

Flagship - ‘Dry Spell’- 1930s Chicago: The signatories of the Unseelie Accords have gathered for their annual meeting. But everyone has their own agenda, and the balance is fragile. Wizards, vampires, powerful Fae, gangsters, members of the Bureau of Prohibition- they’re all here. Chicago may be dry, but by the end of tonight, the city could well be soaked with blood.

A game set in the world of Jim Butcher’s ‘The Dresden Files’ (no knowledge of the books is needed, of course).

Day of Games - May 5 2013
With the infamous Nun larp!

The World that Is - June 8th 2013
First session of a post apocalyptic campaign game

VUW Games Club LARP The Paragon Institute(TBA) - June 15th
Life’s pretty good at the Paragon Institute, a very exclusive boarding school for the orphans of extraordinary but very obscure humanitarians from all over the world. The facilities are modern, the food’s excellent and the Institute’s on an island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island in the Phillipines, so the weather’s pretty amazing too. You’ve grown up together and become family (though some of you are dating, making it a slightly incestuous family), surviving algebra and angst alike as you were comprehensively educated on the bankroll of the United Nations. Now it’s time for the the Institute’s Midyear Non-Denominational Inclusive Social Event (or MNDISE for short, as the staff insist on calling it). Some of you are graduating at the end of this year and will be leaving the school for the wide open outside world, and this is a celebration of your impending independence. All the preparations are going right, for once; the organising committee hasn’t even self-destructed through infighting this time.

Only… There was that night two weeks ago when most of the staff were called to an urgent meeting about a break-in at the main office and came out looking very worried. Last week, each of you found a folder on your laptops containing a message from the student who’d hacked the school’s records, and your personal file- the REAL one. The one that tells you who you REALLY are. Or were. Or would be, if a team of time-travelling do-gooders hadn’t kidnapped you from your homes as babies, altering history and making the world a better place through preventing you from becoming the warlords and dictators and corrupt CEOs that you otherwise would have been. As it turns out, the Paragon Institute is named aspirationally rather than descriptively.

Will you survive the revelations? The MNDISE? The school psychologist’s whalesong-based career counselling? Answer these and other questions in the VUW Games Club Mid-year LARP!

The Dance and the Dawn - June 22, 2013
This game tells the tale of six beautiful Ladies who came to the court of the Queen of Ice for a midnight ball, and there danced with seven noble Lords, all in pursuit of the True Love that could heal their hearts.

The players take on the roles of nobles in a gothic fairy-tale realm, convened for a great ritual dance, who have one night to find love and redemption. Six players become the Ladies of Ash, who have come to the midnight ball in hopes of healing their heartbreak; seven become the cold, proud Lords of Ice who are there waiting for them, and who struggle with tragedies of their own; and the other two become the Queen of Ice and the Duke of Ash, the enigmatic figures who have arranged the whole affair. The game is an event that lasts about four hours, which will be taken up with dancing and dueling and courtly intrigue…and, of course, with the eternal hope of romance and joy.

The World That Is: Session 2 - Should I Stay or Should I Go?
Crosspire is on the brink. The Free State Militia is under fire, the Arcs are in trouble and a new power is growing in the region.

Is now the time to make a stand, and carve out a piece of the world? Or would it be better to leave and maybe fight another day?

This is the World the Is, not the World that Was. Could be that neither choice is a good one.

It’s been 3 days, what do you do next?
This game is almost full; I think we need a single Lord, but there may be dropouts.

7pm till midnight, Vogelmorn Hall, 11 Vennell St, Brooklyn, Wellington. $20 ($5 discount for NZLARPS membership). Contact catnipmousegames@gmail.com

November 17:
33AR Day Game Double Feature

Two short adventures from the 33AR Steampunk Apocalypse campaign, with the players of one crewing in the other.
Adventure 1: Journey to Hell
Acting on information from mysterious sources, Dr Daniel Ashdown and his intrepid band must undertake a dangerous journey through one of the dreaded inferno portals to the demons’ home, in order to retrieve an item said to be invaluable in closing extant portals and preventing new ones from being opened. Can our protagonists pull off this daring heist, or have they just given themselves a one way ticket to hell?

Adventure 2: The Van Heidal Installation
In 1873, the world as we knew it changed forever with the arrival of the demons. Three years previously, a wealthy affictionado of the weird and outlandish and his party guests disappeared without a trace amid the equally mysterious destruction of the mountaintop estate they were occupying. The Church of Van Helsing’s Genevieve Crane has always believed there was a connection between the two events but has never managed a long enough trip to the ruins of the estate to investigate properly. Until now. She’d welcome assistance in her investigation.
1pm - 8pm, Vogelmorn Hall, 11 Vennell St, Brooklyn, Wellington. $30, $25 NZLARPS. Contact 33ar@tetrajak.com
