Welcome to NZ
Hey guys, thanks heaps
Anna, i bet it would be better to write an e-mail on answering your questions. When I left larping, the vampire society was already 200 or more people. The whole country is divided to two sides. Alliances have been set amongst the towns of North, they follow the Prince of Budapest, and some renegate but really powerful towns formed the South Alliance. All these political decisions were made by players of different towns, and are absolutely genuine. You can feel the tension whenever/wherever is the annual countrywide game, and you donāt really need to write a spectacular story because the whole game manages itself, politics, intrique, all about gamers of North and gamers of South trying to gain more followers/allyā¦
its more about strategy and politics than bloodbaths. Especially ever since a nasty werewolf attack on Hatvanās Ball of Vampires, we all agreed that major fights are simply impossible in a crowded little country like Hungary. The masquarade, the whole fragile net of reality was shaken by the fact of 30 werevolves marching on the streets, carrying machine guns. I think I left the game when a helicopter was shot and fell in the middle of the main square⦠errrm⦠khmā¦
The fun part was that all the 200+ players of all towns in Hungary agreed in one and only ārealityā and everybody plays the same game with the same known figures. Well of course side games, side stories changed the characters a little bit when there was no countrywide event, but whenever it came to the Big Ball of Vampires at Budapest, they were all playing the same game. (at least it was like that a few years ago)
vampire.lap.hu/ you can find all playing groups and hopefully everything here.
anyhoo.
Jared is there any possibility to see you knights doing fights?
Dave thanks and THANKS
We are hardly Knights
We are an emerging Live combat (boffer/latex foam) fantasy larp of my own divising, although the ārulesā are derived from a common source of larp rules used by many games in Auckland.
Based in Hamilton we will be the second fantasy larp run in the Waikato, however the other, Quest, will not be running games anymore.
We are currently planning our first game at Chimera, so if you come along on Saturday morning (at Chimera) youāll be able to catch at our premiere event.
Cheers
Jared
200 players nationwide??? Whoa, go Hungarian larp!!
If you want to see knights fighting, thereās loads of re-enactment groups around, we can totally hook you up with them too. The Tauop Joust weekend is a real highlight of the year - itās at the end of January, you should come next year.
Iāll email you when I get home from work tonight, canāt access my email from here
Wow, Iāve been playing One World by Night and the Requiem games here and I am utterly jealous of what you have in Hungary. 200 players for a vampire games sounds absolutely beautiful. Naturally our games are of a slightly different style because of the lack of such a huge playerbase. Is the Hungary vampire game linked to the world wide One World By Night network?
Anna, I sent you a rather long e-mail, and I hope weāll meet soonish. Too many questions to ask, too many stories to tell⦠
Jared - thank you sir, iāll be there sir!
Mancus Perfectio - there is nothing supernatural about having that many gamers, its simply based on geography
. If you hop into your car wherever in Hungary, youāll be scratching a border of another country in cca 4 hours
. Its a small country, and the population is over 10 million. It does not take ages to get to another townās events, so we can all play the same game, and the higher population generates more gamers
.
One World by Night: I think some towns of Hungary might be part of the international game, but Iām not quite sure which ones. Gonna ask my friend on this one.
Hi, my name is Adam and I moved to NZ in July 08. My first nz larp was multiverse where I played a devout friar on the side of Law.
I have been larping for over 10 years now and love it to bits
At the moment I live in the bay of plenty area (near tauranga) but will zip up to auckland for events no problem
Im 22 and like most larpers love the interwebs + all things geeky. I am 6ā5" and could stand to lose a bit of weight
but I have lost half a stone since moving to new zealand so im happy
Fav city in the world: Bangcok
Fav country: New Zealand. (seriously you guys have it good
)
Worst City: London (its a dump)
Worst country: England.

hugs to all who want them
Hi everyone! Iām Sierra, possibly better-known as Alanās fiancee. I have a four-year-old daughter who is apparently not intimidated by āscaryā Alcovians, and we live in California where I am finishing a BA in English.
Iāve larped (Vampire) on and off for the last ten years and am insanely jealous of all the awesome games you Kiwis have. In the meantime I content myself with tabletop and luckily was in the country for Chimera. dies of awesome I look forward to playing more with yāall as trips and games coincide (some times maybe more intentionally than others).
Hi hi,
My nameās James Cooper, I was at St Wolfgangās on the weekend as one of the crew (I played the villager who was the father of the child). I was also at Chimera where I played in A Taste Of Terror as Merrik Selbourne, Tryst where I played one of the Grotesques, For The Honour Of The Family where I played Isoba and Flight Of The Hindenburg where I played BĆ©la Lugosi.
Iām more of a table-top player than a LARPer, but I support LARP, and am pleased to see its apparently going strong.
I think Iāve already at some point or another met quite a few of the Diatribe community, but definitely not all. Hope to meet even more of you!
Um, Iām not sure what else to say, but you can ask. I only bite on request
I should probably do this now so people know who I am,
My name is Nic, and if you were at Wolfgangs, I was crewing as the Village baker⦠for about 3 hours - then the village hooker for the rest of the weekend. I was also floating around with a camera, and ordering people around when someone gets injured
Twas a fantastic weekend, having never done anything at all like this before (ok, one evening of tabletop D&D) i had no idea what to expect, but I hope I didnāt annoy anyone too badly
Hopefully youāll let me back sometime !!

Iām sure we will - nice to sorta meet you
There are two things you can never have too many of at a larp:
Hope to see more of you at future games
But we will go to efforts to ensure youāre not type cast⦠Welcome⦠and nice to have you on the larp wagon.
Yeah, who wants to spend all their tiume playing a paramedic?
rofl ⦠awesome!
Erm⦠late I guess but hey⦠James is me. The ball to Nicnacās chain
Iām a n00bie too. Never even played DnD. Closest I came was those little pick-a-path books I suppose. Wolfgangs left me somewhat bewildered and lost, but was a really niceānāeasy way for me to get involved.
My apologies to all for literally losing my head over and over, and not providing the performance necessary at the time. I hope Iāll get another chance to stone-up and improve on that.
Iām also the guy that initially introād wanted to shoot people⦠as part of a personal photography project. Iām new to that too.
Otherwise, have led an interesting enough life, and very approachable on all things. Iām possibly better suited to organising and helping than character creation/building, so hope there is a place there for me help where I can.
Hiya all!
My nameās Leon and Iām new to Diatribe and LARPing as well. Iām an RPG/fantasy junkie and I figured it was time I moved onto the harder stuff.
A little about my RPG history; Iāve been DMing a DnD 4e campaign since mid-way through the year and playing a 3.5 for about 3 years prior. I grew up on the old, amazing adventure games that you donāt get anymore like Quest for Glory, Kings Quest and Monkey Island (and given that iām only 20 it might be apparent that Iāve started at a young age). Until University decided to hit me hard with some Real Life (ā¦must resist critical hit jokeā¦) Iāve been a WOWer.
Iāve only just become a registered member (so new I havenāt chosen an avatar yet). I thought I should mention; registration process seems broken (in Chrome at any rate) and there seems to be some elements at the bottom of the page blocking the āIām over the 13!ā link as well as most of the lower buttons on subsequent pages⦠but nothing that viewing the page source and putting in the right URL didnāt fix (where thereās a will thereās a way, right). I figure I should let you guys know (Or is it a trial by fire type thing?).
Anywho, since Iām the new guy I should probably refrain from telling you that the site is broken because what Iāve seen so far has really piqued my interest! As Iāve mentioned, Iām a fantasy nut, and its really promising to see that there are a good deal of fantasy LARPs running, but what really struck me was the Lovecraftian LARP you have going (Iām a huge fan of the entire mythos) but it looks like your spots got filled pretty quickly. Do you guys happen to know if thereās a Steampunk LARP in the worksā¦? Or possibly more delves into the madness spreading from sunken Rālyeh?
At the moment, a lot of the info here seems to boggle me, but the community here seems really friendly and I doubt Iāll have a hard time fitting in; so please bare with me as a poke around the sidelines and ask newbish questions. Mostly, Iām struggling to understand gear and how to actually integrate myself into a running LARP, any help on that would be much appreciated.
Monkey Island! A fellow Monkey Island fan! Brilliant! Youāll fit right in
Welcome, Malleus. Post on the Nightmare Circle forum, Iām sure if you ask nicely the organisers will be able to find you space, itād be good to have you come along and go completely mad with us
You could always start one!
In theory, gear is simple. If itās something you plan to use in combat it needs to be ālarp safeā for swords / guns, itās initially best to borrow one, then buy or make one. For everything else, the closer it looks to the real thing the better.
I too would like to see more of the delve into conspiritoral maddness and cult investigation happening. I may even be tempted to reach a little deeper into my reserves of time and write something up in such a veinā¦just give me a little time before pestering me.
Hello.
Welcome to Diatribe. I am Raoul, I run TNC, and I am one of the people to talk to about it. The spaces have filled, but there is plenty of room for NPCs, if you want to come along. I am told it is a good way to learn the ropes, rather than just throwing yourself in as a player straight away.
PM me if you are interested.
