Dave from the ‘tron here, good mate of Jared’s and at one point his personal armourer. Been larpin’ down here for over a decade, but can’t for the life of me remember how the hell I got started…

If I seem to say completely random stuff, make absolutely no sense, or just seem to be outright crazy - blame Alista.

That’s rights right, always blame me. Just because it is true should not enter into it.

Hey, I am above mentioned Viktoria, Martin’s girlfriend. As he said, I am 25, lived in NZ for a year and am planning to move to Auckland with Martin. Hoping to stir up the Larp scene a bit then!

We look forward to being stirred!

Hehe, I hope so!

Na, really, I think Larp in Germany / Europe is really different from NZ, and I am sure both sides will benefit from the exchange.

We are already planning to arrange a game at sometime, and you can see whether you like the German way of larping. And of course we’ll attend some of your games, maybe even during our stay in NZ in April, we’ll see. Otherwise, we’ll just have quiet drinks somewhere and talk…

Welcome Viktoria (& Martin),
I probably speak for many of us in saying that I’m looking foward to seeing another perspective on larps.
If you have a look in the game ideas thread you will see my attempt on a european styled high fantasy larp, Flipside:Sundereth, though I’m not sold on my title as of yet.
It’s not yet complete but my intention is to cater for games small or large in scale but what it will need to succeed are GM’s who want to use the system & players who want to play it. It’s not an attempt to replace any current larps but an attempt to create a system that can be used to build a fantasy larp network, in which people will be able to transfer their characters from one region to the next.
I’m also an active member of Quest here in Hamilton, a game system I think can benefit from dedicated larpers such as yourself & Martin.
It can be a very fun, flexible & diverse system & I find people get out as much as they put into it. Quest needs more GM’s with the time & dedication to write quality games, instead of relying completely on Alista as it does now. A core group is slowly re-establishing but new blood is required.
Don’t get me wrong, without Alista there is no fantasy larp in Hamilton & I for one am grateful for his dedication.
I’m hoping you both will come see us larpers in Hamilton & share your experiences with us.
Jared Hansen

I’m totally keen to get along to one of those. I love hearing about how other people larp. Just don’t be surprised that we don’t have the numbers that you guys do in Germany - so there may not be more than 30 or 40 people coming along to the game!

Large games a really fun but a lot different. Firstly in a game with 2000+ people like the gathering it is really difficult to be a major part of the Plot and you generally tend to take a lot less of the frontline story role.

Shield walls do really exist and Phalanxes and other miltary formations o the battle field are a reality - So are squads of Archers.

Rules generally are a lot less complex to cater for large numbers of people. In The Gathering you have a number of spells you can cast a day depending on your caster level and have spellcards that you rip up to show you have used that spell. makes it easy to remember. No spell cards left no spells.

In character Pubs… very fun. Especially if you want to start a tavern brawl. (Mage and shatter on barbarians glass - of course you buy another drink after the fracas)

Wasn’t saying they weren’t fun, just saying we don’t really have the numbers for them in these parts!

True but we do nationally, what i suggest is we try and organise a once a year weekend game, sort of a larp naama?

@ Jared

Your idea of a system used on different larps sounds good. That’s the way in Germany. We would be happy to assist you with that and put some of our ideas into it.

@ Anna

Yeah, I thought so. Makes me a bit sad, I mean I really enjoy small events but the Mythodea (www.mythodea.de) really was the highlight of every year.

And you do have a lot of plot on big events, at least on the Mythodea! They had main plots everybody could take part in but also small plot lines like “the innkeeper is poisoning his wine”. And the battles were awesome!

I think it would be a good idea to try and organise something like that once a year. My idea would be to give it a Lord of the Rings - background as it would then not only attract larpers, but LOTR-fans who dress up and role play as well. But that’s just an idea as I think we wouldn’t get more than maybe 500 players with a “pure” larp. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Look foward to having a chat with you guys. Meanwhile keep an eye on my post for Flipside: Sundereth & let me know what you think… all of you.

Hello. I’m a friend of Vanya. I will be a crew at St wolfgangs.

Excellent, sir, welcome aboard! (both Diatribe and Wolfgang)

Obviously I’m not a new person but I have an idea about how we can all get to know one another a bit better. I’ve always had a pic of my mug as my avatar but I’ve always used my real name on forums where possible. How keen would people to have either, a real picture of yourself IC or OOC or put your actual name on your profile? At least under your details somewhere so it can be viewed if we view your profile at least?
What you all think?

Hi all,

My name is Enikő and

<— that is me playing my favorite changeling larp character, a racoon pookah.

I have been larping in Europe for more than 12 years. I used to play WoD Vampire the Masquarade (Budapest by Night) for years, then my friend and I came up with the idea of organizing changeling live games… etc, etc etc  I used to do gladiator stuff as well, check it out www.gladiator.hu although I never fought on stage  , most of the times I organized backstage things, but I was there from the very beginning (1994 - to make a dream come true is heaps of fun! ).

When we moved to NZ, I had to focus on other things like life and such… ehehe but now (fingers crossed) I’ll have time to play roleplaying games again. Can not wait seeing you guys at Chimera.

Hey Enikő, I’m Anna - we’ve emailled a couple of times  With you here, it brings it to a grand total of two Hungarians in the larp community (I’m the other one  )

What’s larp like in Hungary? Is there a lot of it? Is it all Vampire the Masquerade or is there live boffer weapon larp too? Do you have any links?

Btw, if you like Vampire larps, there’s two running in Auckland, one using the old system (One World By Night) and one using the new system (Requiem) and there are hordes of people around here who’d be happy to tell you all about them…

Excellent another potential victim errr I mean player. Hi Enikő, and welcome to the LARP community and from us larpers in Hamilton. Please have a look at Knightshade and consider us at Chimera. I have a nice new players guide available shortly!
