Introduce yourself
Hiya all!

My name’s Leon and I’m new to Diatribe and LARPing as well. I’m an RPG/fantasy junkie and I figured it was time I moved onto the harder stuff.

As I’ve mentioned, I’m a fantasy nut, and its really promising to see that there are a good deal of fantasy LARPs running
Hi Leon,
Welcome!
There a good few fantasy LARP’s on the go but I’ll plug Knightshade again just so you know we’re here. Although based out of Hamilton, I will occasionally encroach north to Orkland, where strangely a large number of my players come from.
Have a look through the Knightshade threads, download the v1.2 players guide, its modelled on other RPG’s for layout (somewhat) so it should make sense to fellow D&Der (I play or GM 3.5ed regularly - just started a “Pathfinder” campaign, which no, has nothing to do with a silly movie by the same name!).

Cheers

Jared

Er, hi

I’m new here, as might be guessed, Posting after SOME prodding from someone who shall remain nameless :stuck_out_tongue:

my main roleplaying experiences to date have been virtual ones, Baldur’s Gate 2, KOTOR, bethesda’s brand of RPG, that sort of thing… I look forward to interaction with other actual people while roleplaying, it’s well recommended to me

fun times?

Hi and welcome,

Depending on what style of larp you are after im sure there is somthing for you - find one you like the sound of on the forums and go from there

once again, welcome onboard

-adam-

haha, I’ve had various events described to me already, I’m hoping to end up doing something for the nightmare circle event/thing if family events remain clear of that weekend and I can retain enough of my student loan income from this year :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, last post 2008!

I’m new to NZ, just got here on the 1st of June and currently looking to getting into some larps in the Auckland area. From what I’ve heard its best to start as a NPC and then work out from there.

Are there any larps coming up that need a NPC? I haven’t done much larping, just a couple of D&D sessions under my belt.

Hmmm, sounds like me a couple LARP’s ago. Check out the boards below to see if we’re holding anything in the next little while. But it may pay to rock along to Chimera if there are still some spots left…

Definitely Chimera - not only can you get a sample of what’s out there but it’s also a great chance to get involved in some games that don’t run often (in some cases they’ll only run once!), and meet a good number of the NZ larping community

But otherwise; WELCOME!!!

Yeah, you’re best bet for getting started would have to be Chimera and crewing. Its how I started (and actually what I’m still doing )

I would definitely agree with everyone that says you should come to Chimera! (but then, I would say that)

Chimera is a convention composed of lots of small (three hour) larps designed to be picked up fast. Most of them have pre written characters and minimal costume requirements, so they’re very newbie friendly. It gives you a chance to meet a huge section of the community and try out different genres to see what you like best

Check the website for more details, or PM me if you’re interested in coming along but have questions

Welcome to the community!

I feel I should counter point the chimera argument. Just so someone is playing devil’s advocate (I love that movie)

You should NOT come to chimera for the following three reasons*:

 1. You’ll have to choose between all the awesome games on offer.
 2. If you come to Chimera the days afterwards will seem boring and dull by comparison.
 3. You’ll learn how awsome the LARPs that are run in this country are and get addicted, sucking time out of your life that could be spent participating in “raids” or farming XP online and not meeting people

*(If you cant tell these are actualy all craftly disguised reasons TO go)

I thoroughly agree with Cameron

Hi, my name is Michael and I’ve been involved in some LARPS over the past few months, including St.Wolfgang’s Vampire Hunters (as crew) and Requiem. I’m currently signed up for Chimera in August which is looking wicked-cool. Kudos to Anna and those running the LARPs that weekend for all their hard work!

I also usually try to attend swordfighting at Auckland Uni on Thursday nights. Still very much a newbie at the blade unfortunately.

For my day job, I make pretty things on the internet for this crowd, and am currently building an awesomely futuristic LARP costume.

I live with TheMuntaMan, who spends waaaaay more time LARPing than I do. He kinda got me into the LARPing scene, so kudos to him too

Wow…the powersuit…

What game is that planned for? Or is it a “I wanna build it so bad i’ll find somewhere to use it” project?

Was hoping to use it for Evicting the Dragon if the STs let me play the character I chose (Tim Sinclair).

Was also thinking of asking if I could get the suit written into the Star Wars LARP and play a reoccurring guest NPC.

Awesomeness can easily be explained away with additions to the character backstory

We all know that the Chinese are ninjas and were secretly developing experimental armour and weaponry. I would probably say that the group my character leads made a raid on a Chinese freight convoy and pilfered a few of those suits from storage, and modified them for own use…

Aren’t Ninjas Japanese?

I’m very interested in where you got that helmet from for your power suit.

Technically, ninjas are Buddhist in origin, so could come from either nation…
