Introduce yourself

If you’re looking for a concise list of what larp events are coming up, check the homepage of www.nzlarps.org - at the top right there is a list of all the upcoming events in NZ that we know about here.

If you know of stuff not listed (for example the OWBN events you’re in) let us know and we’ll add them. It would be cool if you (or anyone) from the Vampire game could keep us updated on when events are, maybe by posting notices in the Auckland forum. Then we could link to the event notices from the NZLARPS homepage.

If you like the gothic inspirations of the World of Darkness you might want to check out Ravenholme. There’s a full weekend game coming up soon. The other events currently listed are all live-combat fantasy. Do you have any interest in that genre?

Hi Nicole, great to have you here!
You’ll fit the madhouse perfectly 8)

Which I ended up doing! which took for ever to get up to date…but hey It got be the job when the harpy left

If I remember, I will post to the auckland forum about OWBN. It seems a bit strange one of them hasnt bothered already though :S

Iv actually already put forward a character for Ravenholme lol. Definately my kind of theme. Seeing as I havent tried a live-combat fantasy yet im not entirely sure, but once the Ravenholme weekend game is past I will be looking seriously at the other larps running.

Hi Nicole,
If you wish to try some live combat and find yourself in the Hamilton area, look us up here at Quest, we’re in the process of re-establishing ourselves. Quest also runs a parallel non combat system which has some loose similarities to the vampire systems.
We’re also running a weekend event in May, have a look at the Quest Waikato thread for more info.
Welcome aboard.

Jared
Hello everyone
My name is Nicole, and I have been larping since December last year. The only larp I am in at the moment is OWBN, and I have been an active member of the SCA and the university medieval guild for a year now.
I am currently 17, so how I ended up spending time at the university is a highly circuitous tale, but the result is what counts.
Hoping to get involved in some new larps this year, any suggestions welcome.
Didn’t I teach your sister for a year?

Hi, I’m Nadia. I’ve stopped lurking and finally registered
I’m 20, in my third year at Auckland Uni doing a BA, majoring in English, minoring in Classics with a few random history papers.
I’m involved with the Uni Mevieval Guild, the SCA, Sword and Shield and am running the Uni Tolkien Society this year.
Adam and Lucy are to blame for me ending up LARPing, though the only LARP I have been involved in has been Mordavia for a few day games at which I said next to nothing, but had lots of fun
I’ve been introduced to tabletop roleplaying recently and have been enjoying that when I’m not getting terribly confused.

Good to see you on the forum, hopefully we will see you at a game soon. (I know you are doing a lot of other stuff, including that annoying study stuff)

Hm, and who was user #202 “Nadia”?

You forgot to say that you are extremely good at sewing and you dream of making lots of pretty costumes  Plus you are good in battle, larpers, beware! :smiling_imp:

My multiple personatities are getting the better of me. I suppose I have to admit that I’m useless with computers and must have done something wrong the first time I attempted to register
But I’m here now
The sewing has alas fallen by the wayside recently because of that darn study stuff. Hopefully I’ll come along to another game - It’ll give me an excuse to make another costume

Hiya WildeRose, Bourbakhi, and Estel. Hope you enjoy yourself in the community.

Hi. My name is Hannah. I’ve been roleplaying the last twenty years in Dragon Quest system. DQ is table top fantasy roleplaying campaign going on for around 25 years. See dragonquest.org.nz/dqwiki/in … /Main_Page
It wouldn’t surprise me if you haven’t heard of DQ. It is a self sufficient community, in that the rules were first published by SPI in the '80s and then has been amended by our group ever since, and the GM’s create their own scenarios. So you won’t find us buying in the games section. (More likely to be in the boardgame sections, because we’re generally also that sort person). There are around 30-70 (I think) players in the campaign.

It’s only in the last couple of years that’ I’ve branched out into roleplaying competitions of Battlecry and America’s cup. (I can take more risks with charaters that last an afternoon than the DQ characters that last for many many years).

And then Derek’s wife who also plays DQ, got me involved with SCA (and Derek never mentioned he LARPed (if that’s a verb)). So it was through Karen’s Pirate LARP at Battlecry this year, (when I wore the big, pretty, impractical dress) that I figured this might be something for me.

So I’m 36, with an 8 & 10 year children, who funnily enough, enjoy using sticks as swords. They are so envious of my SCA rapier (and love to show it off to all their friends that come over) and I think they’ve handled the new LARP sword I just got from Ryan more than I have.

I’m an architect by profession, working in residential area, though with time off when the kids were little, I’m just getting around to becoming registered now.

I look forward to roleplaying in costume.

Welcome Hannah, it will be nice to meet you at a game sometime.

Greetings Hannah,

I recall you and the dress at the Pirate larp it was a great moment when you arrived, everything seemed to stop so everyone could to have a look.
Got a larp sword already, I look forward to seeing you again at a game soon.

Also thanks for you comments and ideas about making things easier for new visitors. You are exactly right and I am hoping we can make some changes to www.nzlarps.org along the lines you mentioned so it can easily introduce people to all the games as well as to diatribe. Forums as not easy places to naviagate when you are new. .

Hi Folks,

my name is Nick and Im 29 years old. I´m looking forward to emigrate to NZ in the near future and Im really glad that I can take my great hobby with me. I’m larping now for some ten years, visited about 100 conventions and made a few of my own (the biggest I made had 400 Players).
Here are some pics of me:

Feel free to ask me, what larping is like over here in Germany

Hi Nick!

What is larping like in Germany?
Hi Nick!

Hi Catherine.

Its great atm. There are conventions each weekend and thousands of people are playing larp. Most people here know what larp is and we are accepted in the public (well mostly  ) Finally we got away from the insane criminals image... It´s no problem to get the gear you want to have. A major industry has established in the last years and is producing everything from plate armour, chain mail, medieval tents, foam weapons, clothing and so on. Unfortunately theres some low cost rubbish on the market like plate armour that isnt stronger than a soda can or swords that loose their latex coat after the first battle... We are mostly playing medieval fantasy genre over here, a little bit vampire and some cyber punk. As you might know, weve got quite many old castles over here and it`s seldom a problem to rent one for a weekend. Some of them are youth hostels and many others are only ruins. Castles can be quite expensive so there are many conventions on a meadow rent from a farmer in the middle of nowhere
There are conventions for every taste:
huge battles with 2000 combatants
castle sieges
high fantasy adventures
low fantasy adventures
ambience conventions (no story, just character play)
diplomacy conventions
or just a night in a tavern where you can tell your adventures to the overs

Well, that´s it for now. If you want to know anything specific… just ask

Curses. You beat me to it.

I think I speak for us all when I say:

"You Lucky European Bastards"

Oh and Welcome. I look forward to meeting you when you come down.
