Welcome BadNick, when are you moving to NZ?
Hello
Iām Katharina, 22 years old and the wife-to-be of the āeuropean bastardā.

5 years ago I spent one year in Nelson and since then I am absolutly in love with NZ. But why on earth did I not notice, that there is Larp in NZ???
Welcome, it will be very cool to have both of your larp experiences in our community.
Wow talk about larp envy⦠how about you encourage several hundred of your larping countrymen & women (Nick & Katharina) along with you?
We could always do with a few more. Welcome & where abouts are you looking to move to in NZ?
Jared
Peronally I would prefer Wellington. But it all depends on where Nick finds a job.
when you are ālarpingā, what are your rules you keep to?
Hi Katharina,
Wellington is nice, if a bit wet and cold sometimes. On sunny days itās marvellous!
There are a few different systems in use right now. There are some discussions about them in other parts of the forum.
I am hopelessly envious of the castles.
Catherine
Iām not sure how big the LARP community is in nelson or Wellington i know of a few the uni roleplaying club do)ā¦
Wellington has a few larps. Not many campaigns (or theyāre private), and everything Iāve heard about is not live-combat (they use abstract resolutions, so rock-paper-scissors and ability cards and so forth). There are some people in Wellington keen to get into live-combat, but youād have to gather people and get them up to speed.
Auckland has the most live combat, seemingly followed by Hamilton and Christchurch. Iām not surprised you didnāt encounter anything in Nelson, I imagine youād have to hunt it out and if it exists chances are itās Vampire.
To answer the question about rules, most of the live combat systems in New Zealand seem to use hit points, with armor having points that are taken first (and need to be repaired) and then the body/health taking damage. Magic and other systems vary a lot.
Some of the larps here are very into costuming, others are not. We have a lot of variety. Judging by the effort youāve put into costume, more heaviliy costumed larps like St Wolfgangās Vampire Hunters, Ravenholme, and Pirates might suit you well. And there is always the option of starting a larp.
As soon as possible. Iām finishing university in July (all exams done by now, just waiting to get my diploma). At the moment Iām trying to get a job offer and a visa⦠this will take some time.
Btw if you know someone who wants to employ a software engineer, tell me
Try www.seek.co.nz and other employment websites in NZ. I hear that they are quite good when you are looking for a job.
Thanks for the link.
I knew the seek website already and i`ll give it a try.
You are welcome, if you and Katharina decide to come to Auckland and need a place to stay Im looking for a flatmate (or a couple of flatmates) from July 07 - Jan 08 at $150 a week which includes power and water
Its quite central to transportation too.
Greetings one and all. Iām John and am quite the fledging newcomer to the world of LARPing. Those that went to the 2014 overnight game would have been subjected to my LARPing debut as a crew member. But I already have set my sights on a few upcoming events in Auckland to throw my hat into the PC circle.
Presently, Iām studing at UoA for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology, my minor at this point unknown. Of course, the degree is merely a fail-safe should my dream of acting for a living not come to fruition and could be followed up with an ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) qualification if thatās the case. I read that there are several other UoA students floating around these parts, try to run into me some time. Iām would be the tall lanky gentlemen with brown curly hair, a comically faux British accent, a lack of skin pigment to match, who has membership with both Stage2 Productions and UniQ. Should stick out like a sore tumb.
I usually while away my time through gaming, attempting to write now and then, making short films, and drinking, like a fish - nay, kingfish - almost all forms alcohol except tequilla.
Pictures? Hereās one of me as the bastardious Dr. Clarkson.
Oh your one of THOSE your very brave to just come out and admit it like thatā¦
I thought being an actor is something youād want to keep secret
(I work as a stagehand as a profession if your wondering)
Anyway always good to have new membersā¦take a look at ravenholme, there is a night game coming up soon and a weekend game later in the year (join the montagues please we need more people)ā¦also keep an eye out for the much anticipated No-Mans Land.
Also if your keen on writing and have a live journal account check out KiwiNoWriMo: diatribe.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=1432
Welcome John - if youāre at uni you should come by the Alcove and say hi. A number of gamers/larpers hang out there, especially on tuesdays which is gaming night. You can find it in the Lower Common Room above the Quad (no - no one warn him away! We will CONSUME HIM MWAHAHAHAHA! I mean, give him a puppy << >> <_< )
Hi all!
Iām Gavin. Iām 27, have been gaming since high school and have been learning to kill people with bits of metal (I train in hand and a half broadsword primarily) for the last 3 years. Iām also utterly obsessed with the writings of Robert E Howard and will fight any who say bad things about the Ramones and/or Iron Maiden.

Yes, Iām from across the ditch - Sydney to be exact.
8) Please donāt hold that against me. Iāve visited NZ before - I was a Frodo tourist in March 06. Iāve been itching to get back ever since I left.
Itās Ryanās fault Iām here - he let me know about St Wolfgangās which Iām planning to attend.
Hah, so thatās why you were such a good annoying psychologist at 2014!
Welcome to Diatribe
