Games for Chimera 2012

If anyone is seeking inspiration, I think history has a few goodies:

August 24:

 • traditional date of the erruption of Vesuvius and burial of Pompeii
 • the sack of Rome
 • end of the seige of Cadiz

August 25:

August 26:

 • Joan of Arc captures Paris
 • Pitti’s coup in Florence
 • The 19th Amendment comes into force
How about a Quidditch World Cup larp then? Wizards gather in New Zealand for the greatest, most annoying, sporting event the wizarding world has ever seen…

EDIT: Or possibly more amusing, an unnamed “Great Sporting Event!” where the sport is never defined.
I have contemplated writing an Ultimate Frisbee larp. :smiling_imp:

I think the Calvinball World Cup would make a brilliant LARP :smiling_imp:

A Griffball LARP would be interesting to try and put on.

This. This forever and nothing else.

Has anyone ever written a Futurama Larp?

Just as a side note, I prefer unbranded genre larps at Chimera, with the odd exception. For example, “a 60s spy parody” rather than a James Bond/Austin Powers larp, a “P.G. Wodehous inspired larp” rather than “this specific P.G. Wodehouse novel right here”. So a larp based on Futurama or set in the Futurama universe would be something I’d encourage but if people just want to dress up like Leela and Fry and Zoidberg, I’d encoruage them to enter a cosplay at Armageddon.

Obviously, I’ve allowed branded things on occasion (Asterix is a notable example) and this is usually for specific comic effect, or with a game well expanded enough for it to be more than just “the main gang”.
I’ve had some random ideas for games that may pique someone’s interest.

 • A video game larp, parodying all the best and worst things about computer/console gaming over the last three decades. It would be hilarious to include classic characters such as the main guy from Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem, Mario, Guybrush Threepwood, the Prince of Persia and for bonus weird points, maybe things like Pac Man. The pixellated heroes find themselves manifested in the forests of Motu Moana after the coalition of villains expunged them from the digital world. With the assistance of some confused gamers, they must find their way to the digital world.

 • Captain Planet larp. I’ve been suggesting this forever.
This in it’s entirety. This would be so freaking cool it’s not even funny, and i would even make a giant pacman costume for it, and only communicate with wild hand gestures and screaming “WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA”.

And you can never go wrong with captain planet.

How about a Quidditch World Cup larp then? Wizards gather in New Zealand for the greatest, most annoying, sporting event the wizarding world has ever seen…

Also this, i LOVE griffball.

See this I would play, a game centred around a tournament, but still has characters with cool interations and plots. I think there’s lots of scope for a game set at a tournament, but I would understand if those running it would want it combat heavey/RP light. But i could definately see both a Combat and RP heavy game.
Heartily seconded- and so much great source material to draw on for inspiration. The combination does work- remember ‘Black Hart of Camelot’ had the knights fighting each other. It could easily be made combat heavy for the knights, rp heavy for everyone else.

Clearly, there should be a Final Boss. And it should be the Internet.

I would totally write this LARP if I could figure out a way to send them back…

I like the idea of a 1970s TV show larp - charlie’s angels, starsky and hutch, dukes of hazzard, kit and the guy who drove him, love boat, so many characters we know and love who could interact in funny ways. Daisy Duke could have the hots for her cousins. The A Team could swoop down only to find themselves guests on Fantasy Island.

SO much trash on TV back then - I love nostalgia.

Tanya

OOTs, Captain Planet, Videogame LARP, there are so many ideas here that I would be in favour of.

And quiddich… well, I’ll add that to the list of setting ideas. Dave Agnew and I have tossed about the idea of a game set in the Harry Potter universe…

That 70s Larp?

Fantastic.

I had an idea for a Sandman inspired game, for those of you that have read World’s End. Watch this space!

DUDE!!! If I don’t get a spot in that, someone’s getting gnawed at!!!

Can I be Dream’s fish? :stuck_out_tongue: (jk)

*EDIT: Gaaah, Delirium’s fish, I meant Delirium!

I love the Sandman comics. I was just mentally running through the Endless to think if there’s anyone I’d enjoy and suit playing. I reckon I’m not tall enough for Dream, not big enough for Despair (who is kinda-sorta female anyhow), and not buff enough for Destruction. I could do Destiny but he’s kinda bland, so I reckon I’d actually enjoy the challenge of playing the androgenous Desire more. White makeup, red lipstick, black bob-cut wig. Totally possible.

I’d absolutely love to see Delirium and Death played well. They’ve my favourite characters, especially Delirium. Ohh… also, Cain and Able are awesome. There is so much potential if you include the characters from the Dreaming, ancient gods like Bast that no-body worships anymore, etc.

I want to see someone play Lucien well (that, or play him myself  )

Alan Moore?
