ZombieLARP is based on a LARP run in the UK (zombielarp.co.uk). It uses a slightly modified ruleset from the UK version, adapted to better suit outdoor gameplay. This will be the first in a series of stand-alone LARPs. Gameplay will be combat and puzzle-solving heavy, involving interactive props, including artificial intelligences that will play a pivotal role during the progression of the story. The event will be broken down into a series of 30-minute ‘runs’ going all the way until midnight. These runs will take teams of 4-6 human player characters through a thrilling race against the clock where their goal is to both survive against waves of zombies and complete their objective. During each run, the remaining players not playing human characters will be playing various Zombies who will be trying to hinder the humans progress.
Combat will be realtime, with Human players using LARP-safe foam boffer weapons such as axes and hammers, as well as Nerf-guns. Players are welcome to bring their own weapons, however these must be checked by the StoryTellers (STs) upon arrival at the venue. We will be providing boffer weapons and Nerf guns for players who do not bring their own. Nerf guns may be custom painted and modified from their original condition with the removal of air restrictors and upgraded springs. For modified guns, using any other propellant other than air and spring power is not allowed. There is no restriction to the amount of ammo / melee weapons / Nerf guns that a player may bring and use in their run. A certain amount of foam Nerf rounds will be provided. If you lose any rounds on the ground they will be collected up and added to the pool for future ZombieLARP events.
Any ranged combat will require a call to be made in addition to physically firing the weapon. It is advised that players using Nerf guns bring a boffer melee weapon as a secondary, as Nerf guns can be quite temperamental with limited range, reloading and occasionally jamming. You wouldn’t want to get caught on the reload and eaten alive by the undead now, would you?
A full set of rules will be available at www.zombielarp.co.nz at a later date.
Throughout the game, human players may unlock various achievements which will show up after the event is over on their player profile at www.zombielarp.co.nz. Player characters that survive “Thirty Minutes to Midnight” can opt to continue playing their character in future ZombieLARP events.
Each player character will also have an ID tag generated for them. These will have a unique symbol and code printed on them, and optionally a photograph. All players will receive one of these nametags when they sign up for the LARP at www.zombielarp.co.nz. Players will be presented with their ID tag at the beginning of their run and must keep it on their person at all times while playing their human player character, as they will be used to track your progress through the LARP.
Camp Sladdin is located on a Manukau City reserve at the northern end of Clevedon Village and is a 20 minute drive east from Papakura City and the Southern Motorway. Players will be required to bring torches, as the LARP will stretch into the night, ending around midnight.
We are also looking for volunteers! We need the following:

EnyoGeni was incorporated in 1980 as MagnaPharm Biotechnology and changed its name to ‘EnyoGeni’ in 1994. It was initially focused in researching and developing immune system suppressants. In the early 1990s, a team of scientists who had joined the team made some remarkable breakthroughs in the field of cancer treatments. They discovered they could specifically target cancerous cells and shut down the blood supply to those cells; effectively providing a treatment for most types of cancer.
Today, EnyoGeni is a leader in cancer treatment research, and as high profile contracts with many governments and corporations around the world.
You, for some reason or another, found yourself signing your life away to EnyoGeni. The advertisement on their website had asked for test subjects for some groundbreaking medical research and had promised large rewards, but claimed they could not reveal exactly what you would be testing due to ‘intellectual property’ reasons. For one reason or another, you found yourself signing up anyway.
Within a couple of weeks you were picked up from your home by a black unmarked van with tinted windows and were driven to an EnyoGeni secure facility to begin the testing.
You have been undergoing various physiological and psychological stress tests for the past several days. The technician who is overseeing your progress is pleased with the results so far, and says that you are now ready for ‘field testing’. You have no idea what they mean, but he assures you that this phase of the testing is nearly complete and that the field test will be quite short.
The next day, you are told to collect your personal effects, dress in civilian clothes and are taken to another EnyoGeni facility in a remote location. The briefing for the field test is to begin soon. The other test subjects in the room with you look a little nervous…
So should you.
