What does your username mean?

I’m curious!

What does your username mean/what’s the significance of it? There are some random ones out there. Care to share?

My own comes from the Edward Gorey book “Amphigorey” - a favourite of mine. I needed a unique username for a website long past and everything I was trying was taken. I happened to have an Amphigorey poster on my wall, so I decided to use an incorrect spelling if it, figuring it would be available. And it was. And it always is as it’s a made-up word.

Mandos is the Keeper of the Halls of the Dead from the Tolkein world. Many years ago I needed an alias to log on to BBS’s (internet precursor) being 15 at the time I chose Shadowspawn but a friend of mine said it was far too common so I changed it to Mandos Shadowspawn but it didn’t flow smoothly off the tongue. After a bit more work I became Mandos D Shadowspawn Esq.

This is a bugger to type so these days I am known as Mandos.

My Name is Anthony. Friends call me Ants. I don’t like typing, like Mandos, so prefer as few letters as possible to log into websites. :smiley:

I went for a walk with my Dad once when I was about 15 and we passed a letterbox that had a ‘no circulars’ sign on it. He made a joke about what would the postman do if it said ‘no rectangulars’ instead. And thus an internet handle was born!

Umm, no they aren’t. They have pincer based mouthparts, bugs by definition are part of the Hemiptera order and they all have sucking mouthparts. :slight_smile:

Quite a while ago, I was busy designing a world (sorta, never finished), and I wanted to create a character for it, it’s name became “Kamica” Eventually I added “Anera” to it, if I ever needed a last name. This is what I use most of the time when on the internet these days (I used to go by the name of DarkKnight, but that was used too often)… Atleast… that’s how I think it came to be, I really can’t tell with certainty XD.

I just had to come up with any random name for the purposes of a video game, and ‘Jarak’ was the first thing that sprang into my head that sounded good. I needed a name again for something else not long later, and decided to use the same name, and I’ve been using it since.
