What does your username mean?

Aiwe was my first larp character in Mordavia, I registered with that name on Mordavia forum, and then someone told me about Diatribe and I came and registered here and used same name because this is what I figured out I was in terms of larping. That was long before we started having so many larps that you can hardly do even half of them
ā€œAiweā€ means ā€œbirdā€ in Quenya, the language of Tolkien’s elves. That gives you a hint on what was my first character’s race 8)

Riordan is my surname. It’s Irish, pronounced ā€˜REER-din’, and means ā€˜poet’.

Based on a character in a story I was writing when I was about 14 or so. It’s been my online name since about then too. So umm, made it up I guess. I was pretty fascinated with Latin at the time so it’s a bit faux-latin-esque.

A bird-person? =D [/stupidity]

Uncle Vanya is a play by Anton Chekhov. I love Chekhov, so it stuck, it is always fun to see who recognizes where the nickname came from.

I needed a name to play computer games, I went through the usual crazynames like Cerberus and WhiteKnight (a handle i still have on steam) but then I picked up a game called Dark Age of Camelot - played it for 7 years (its 10th anniversay was this year) where every one knew me as ā€˜cerus’

I had a ton of characters all with cerus as a core and a different letter at the front eg: Scerus, Zcerus, Xcerus etc.

But Xcerus was first.

Celt Druid on Prydwen.

The best thing about the game was you could search for other players using just a few letters of their name and it would give you upto 50 names that matched or were close, so all my friends had to do to find which character i was playing on was type in /who cerus

Good times.

I recognized instantly! Oh wait…

I was getting bored using my usual username so I tried coming up with a new one. I also happened to be reminiscing about High School at the time, and how I got called a ā€˜Slacker’ for not always doing my work or paying attention, so hence the first part. Figured it was slightly to unoriginal, so I added another unoriginal thought to the mix and added a J to the end, it being the first letter of my first name. And hence my current default username was born.

I assumed it was from the grumpy anti-evolutionary prehistoric man from a book called ā€˜Evolution Man’

What a neat thread, so interesting

Mine is a made up name, I was running a D&D game in a world of my own creation, and I had to name all the gods. I had read something somewhere (Warhammer fantasy roleplaying rules maybe?) that suggested that Elven names used a few common suffixes - uvial, -riel etc. So I made up Anastriel to be my Goddess of Magic, Mystery and the Night.

Around about the same time, I decided I needed a new internet alias, as I had out grown my last (Also back from the days of the BBS when I was 15  ) . I like the sounds of Anastriel, and it was unique which meant I could actually use it for logins and emails with out having to add numbers behind it, so it stuck.

Cool. Yours was one in particular I wondered about as well.

The first part of my user name is taken from Oscar Wilde, I was on my third read of his complete works when I needed a new login name, and my favourite album I was listening to at the time was The Rose by Mediaeval Baebes. Hence WildeRose was born.

Waay back in the dimdarkdays, on my 2400baud modem, around 1989-90, I was a Top Gun fan - I signed in as Maverick on every local BBS I could find. Then when I expanded out of the Metropolis known as Invercargill I kept running into Mavericks, so I changed it to Iceman. Not long after that I kept finding Mavericks and Icemans (<-- good England!) so I changed it again to Viper (the instructor, played by Tom Skerritt).

Then when the actual internet became a thing I found out that every single website in the history of the world ever had a Viper (please don’t point out the obvious…) and sick of completely changing my name I just added to it - Viperion. Since then I’ve only found two places that already had a Viperion (EVE Online and Skype) and so have stuck with that for the last 10 years or so.

Well… mine is pretty obvious. But, to stay interesting, I’ll explain a common handle of mine, K-of-blades.

I got the original Fable when it first came out, and loved it. It was the first game I ever played which allowed you to have gay sex  But it was good for reasons beyond just that.
The main antagonist of the game was a hero called ā€œJack of Bladesā€. Despite being a clever take of Jack of Spades, I really liked the concept of a name which had such a suffix. I’m surprised I hadn’t thought of it before (I mean, who hasn’t heard of Attila the Hun? Everyone knows he’s real.)
Anyway, I figured that King of Blades was the logical step up to take from there. I shortened it to K of Blades, because K is also the first letter of my name. I wasn’t allowed spaces as characters for the forum I wanted to use the name for, so I circumvented it with hyphens.

You totally skipped over Queen of Blades which would have been the next logical step.

And thus, a new nickname is created for Kerry

Mine comes from the first tabletop roleplaying character I ever created. Since I was at a complete loss for how to name a character (especially an alien lizard thing), it was generated by blind random typing on an unreliable keyboard until I got a pronounceable bit. It’s been my email and internet handle ever since.

Mine is a fairly obscure Terry Pratchett reference. It thoroughly appealed to me when he pointed out that you can’t have just ONE of anything. So I became the other phoenix. And I don’t have to add numbers to it or find it taken very often.

Actually, this was back in the day before I knew I could be the prettiest princess (I even had short hair!), so nyah! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh! I’d thought because Erin has a phoenix user name that you were the ā€˜other’ one. Shows what I know!
