Unfortunately when we wrote Flight of the Hindenburg back in 2007 we weren’t thinking beyond Kapcon. As such it was tailored to specifically fit the Kapcon LARP demographic at the time. With the cross pollination between the LARPing community nationwide the potential audience is now much greater than we ever imagined.

There have been a number of fantastic LARPS at Kapcon since FotH; Sanctuary, Mafia 2071, Reunion, & Al Shir-Ma. The gender balance has improved in the intervening years so approaching the writers for some of those may be an easy solution. An ever increasing number of Aucklanders are making the trek down for Kapcon so there will plenty of locals familiar with these games who could possibly run them (much as Ryan did with FotH).

I think Ryan’s suggestion of 20% gender neutral characters is a good one and is something I’ll certainly be taking on board.

I’d say 71 could be pushing it for something that’s not a convention flagship, but if it were pushed it the right way it’s not entirely unlikely.

I think it would be quite doable as a standalone event. VUWGamers is filling 40-player games within a few days of announcing, and they’re not really tapping the rest of the larp community. Plus of course there’s the cosplayers. Give a decent notice period so people can construct or acquire costumes (and to allow plenty of time for panic if there seems to be a shortfall), and I think it’ll be fine.
