The Flight of the Hindenburg

Ideally I’m looking for folks who want to build things at their place, either on their own or getting a group together, but if that doesn’t pan out then will consider a workshop.

Do you want to post a list of what you want here? Or, is it all top secret?

Not so much secret as I prefer to have things as a surprise.

Here’s a couple of things:

  • Assorted ancient Egyptian artifacts
  • Phonograph prop that can conceal a stereo

Does anyone have a child who’d like to play Little Orphan Annie?

It was played by an adult in the Wellington run which we can also do, but I’d also be happy for a player’s daughter to play her. The game doesn’t really have terribly dark or adult themes and it’s set in a more “proper” era, so I’m comfortable that a child would fit in fine so long as they are fairly switched on and can deal with roleplaying for three hours solid.

Aha - already on that for environmental effects. With appropriate music.

May be slightly on the old and crusty side, but I was looking at using a radiogram for it. If anyone has something more easily transportable, I’m all ears.

Awesome!

Does anyone have items that would make good Egyptian artifacts?

Player bookings are up to around 30, and I’m hearing about more on the way. Bookings are speeding up, so you definitely need to get in quick now to secure a character.

Bear in mind that we’re happy to convert the following characters to female because we know there may be a shortage of female characters, so if you’re a lady and any of these appeal let us know:

Heinrich Strauss
Carl Denham
Major Konrad Rahn
Lamont Cranston
Scott
Hymie Weiss
Dr Hugo Eckener

Also note my previous post about being happy for a player’s daughter to play Orphan Annie, in case you missed it at the bottom of the page:

I’ll ask my daughter Lea. She hasn’t larped before but we play a fairy rpg from time to time and (lets face it) larping is a natural game.

What did Lea think?

A note to all women looking for a character, there’s now another female character available called “Elsa Schreiber”, see the character list.

Lea thought it was a good idea but her mum thought the game was too late… :frowning:

No worries. We’re happy to have an adult play the part of Annie too.

Characters are continuing to be booked, see the list:

nzlarps.org/chimera/larp_the_fli … enburg.htm
(names marked in green are booked)

The role of Annie has been booked.

Are there any mechanics to deal with combat? Surely the military and gangster types might have a gun or two amongst them, so is it expected for them to be used? Or are they “checked at the door”?

Though my husband Brent did suggest that having guns going off on a airship filled with hydrogen might not be the wisest thing to do.

Also were you planning to list here who is playing which characters, so that we might be able to recognise the characters we know (as listed on the charactersheet) by the players (if we recognise the player name of course. )

I’ll start a new thread with the rules, so they don’t get lost in this long thread.

Everyone will be wearing name badges, so recognising people will be a breeze. There will be some character briefing time beforehand where you’ll get a chance to see who’s what anyhow.

We’re up to around 40 bookings.

I’d really like to fill all the roles, they’re all excellent and integral to the various plots. So if you know folks who’d be interested then go ahead and recruit 'em to play one of the available characters.

I was wondering where the apostrophe in “Fly’s” came from, then I saw it had dropped out of “hero’s”

Actually you lost another one from the end of Biggles’ as well

-The Apostrophe Police, preventing apostrophe abuse since the 1990’s

The following characters have been converted to women, and are no longer available to male players:

Helga Strauss
Carla Denham
Major Sabrina Rahn
Sarah
Hymie Weiss
Dr Heidi Eckener

We’re playing in an alternate version of the 1930’s anyway, so why not have women as military commanders, captains of industry, movie directors, and mob leaders? It’ll add some spice.

We’ll endeavour to let everyone know if contacts on your character sheets have changed name and gender.

I think “fly’s” = “fly is”, which is fine.

On the other points, the apostraphe police are making a fair cop. Heroes’ (the adventure belongs to the heroes) and Biggles’ (the fly belongs to Biggles) it is.

I like the goggles.
