The Flight of the Hindenburg

If we have sent in our registration for characters with our registration for Chimera, do we still need to PM you our character choices?

No need to PM as well, thanks. If there are any conflicts over character choice I’ll get in touch.

Btw, your green does not reflect in Firefox… So to see who’s booked I had to check in Internet exploder… Just a note :unamused:

Thats strange it works perfectly fine in my Firefox browser.

I can see it in Firefox too. Anyone else unable to see it?

The date of the game is 1930s. WWI ended in 1918 and WWII started in 1939. Would those people playing “military” type characters be wearing their uniforms or would they be wearing civilian formal attire?

I don’t know much about modern military convention, but I believe this period of military personal wore their dress uniforms at social events and not civilian clothing.

Anyone???

Thanks in anticipation

thats actually about right derek, even retired military tended to wear them if they got a chance

Here we go then, for anyone else who s interested in the uniforms of the period … kinda … not sure if you wear the uniform of the last war or the next one in times of peace :unamused:

Happy if people want to go for accuracy, but equally happy with “near enough is good enough”.

Players with military characters who can’t get uniforms are welcome to improvise.

absolutely

I’m just trying to figure out what I’m trying to get near to…

I reckon you’d be pretty safe using WWII uniforms for inspiration.

just did a check for those people from the RAF, the uniform change to blue was so unpopular that the RAF allowed former RFC personnel to continue wearing their khaki RFC uniform until it wore out, eventually being fazed out in late 1939.

further info RFC was the British air corp in WW 1.

The 1930s is a fascinating era. I’ve just been reading about them and found that prior to Pearl Harbour the USA was providing planes and pilots to China to use against Japan. They allowed pilots to resign from the USAF and join a “mercenary” unit in China which had US built planes. The shot down hundreds of Japanese planes.

I never knew why Japan attacked the USA prior to this.

Because they hated their way of life, of course.

Because they were Evil Foreigners, who hated Freedom and the American Way, of course. :unamused:

More seriously - I hadn’t known the background reason for the it either, and had thought it was just expansionism, even though it didnt make sense to attack the US while they were still at war with China if it was unprovoked. Good think the US doesnt interfere in foreign conflicts any more like it used to

Cool - I just managed to pick up a uniform on TradeMe for under $40 (including postage)

There are some good deals on there for costumes!

Character sheets are now ready to send out, as PDFs.

Those who’ve booked a character, PM me your email address and I’ll email your character sheet to you.

Don’t show people your character sheets, the secrets and abilities and so forth give a lot away.

Those who haven’t chosen a character yet, take a look at the list and get picking.

Characters are continuing to be booked, see the list for what’s still available:

nzlarps.org/chimera/larp_the_fli … enburg.htm
(names marked in green are booked)

Get in quick.

Gender balance

Hey folks. Some of you may have noticed that the character list for Hindenburg is quite male-heavy. We’re getting a very even gender balance of players signing up, so to avoid a requirement for a lot of cross-dressing we’re going to convert some more characters to female. Guys, stay clear of choosing the following characters for now:

Heinrich Strauss
Carl Denham
Major Konrad Rahn
Lamont Cranston
Scott
Hymie Weiss
Dr Hugo Eckener

If you’re a woman and would like to book a converted version of one of these characters, let us know.

Creative help

Feeling creative? We could do with a hand making some props and decorations, mostly iconic 1930s stuff. The gear will belong to NZLARPS and will be reusable for other period larps.

Are you doing a workshop for this? If you are let me know and I’ll make it if I can.
