The Armageddon Project

Hi everyone,

Michael Andrew and I are coordinating the nzLARPS Armageddon effort for this year. This is going to give us huge exposure to a lot of new people, so we want to be on our absolute A-game, and we cannot do this without your help. We need to organise the following:

Pre-Armageddon:

  • We will need to make a general what-is-larp pampplet. Jackie wrote a lot of really good text for this for when we did Aether and Iron, so we will just need to adapt to the Armageddon scenario and change the design away from Victorian.
  • We will need very nice colour posters for some of our big events, particularly Teonn and Chimera. Any active New Zealand campaign should think about designing and providing a poster.
  • We will need to put together more photoboards, for different genres. This takes more time than you’d think so three or four people having a working afternoon on something like this would be ideal.
  • We will need to put together a New Zealand larp guide, a black and white publication which should include information on all active larp campaigns, and all upcoming games across the country. It should also include a little bit on general larp information - where to go for help, where to go for costume, how to use Diatribe, things like that. I will need probably two people to assist with the writing of it, and one person to do the prettying of the design.
  • Promotional fliers for the post-Armageddon newbie games (see below)

Armageddon:

  • Volunteers to dress up in their best costumes and man the stand. This is particularly important for Friday and Monday when we will need students on break to help. We will need many volunteers who are willing to talk to the public about larping.

Post-Armageddon:

  • Post Armageddon, we will run two games for the people we managed to get interested at Armageddon. I would like these to be theatreform games, so that anyone interested in live action combat we can funnel straight into the December Teonn. For games, I was thinking of rerunning (with permission) The Flight of the Hindenburg and Reunion. Each game will need a team of three GMs. Work will include liaising with players, answering a lot of newbie questions, casting, and organising to run the games. We will need to book venues soonish to get dates nailed down. These games will need to be run at minimal cost. Ryan, I’m also thinking of having Black Hart of Camelot on offer if you would keen to rerun to it, as a live combat option.

Summary:

  • Volunteers to generate the generic what-is-larp pamphlet, text and design
  • Volunteers to put together several photboards
  • Two fellow writers for the New Zealand larp guide
  • One designer for the New Zealand larp guide
  • Three GMs for The Flight of the Hindenburg
  • Three GMs for Reunion
  • Volunteers for poster design
  • Volunteers for misc flier design
  • Many volunteers to help on the stand

Have you ever used vistaprint.co.nz? You can get 100 glossy postcards of your own design for free (with just cost of postage) - they look great and are easy to hand out. We used them for several fundraising events at our local kindergarten.

You can get more than 100 if you order in several lots. PM me or something and I can discuss in further detail if you are interested. Tanya

I use Vistaprint regularly for business cards (Chimera and Teonn in particular), they are fantastic  We will probably use them for some of the printing here.

Putting my hand up to help man the stand during the Armageddon Phase. If there’s anything I can do for the Pre-Armageddon Phase, too, I’ll be happy to help. I might be able to help write/ edit/ whatever the flyer text, or something similar.

Putting my hand up to help in any way i can! I love this new world ive entered. I dont mind doing anything that needs doing, i just want to be a part of it
Im avaliable to help man the station too.

More than happy to edit what I wrote for A&E to suit your current needs.

I’m willing to help write anything… not sure there is anything else I can help with down here that I have skills with…

Happy to spend some time helping the stand. Planning on going anyway

Finances allowing that soon after naama of course :stuck_out_tongue:

The Flight of the Hindenburg may benefit from some re-work, in terms of gender balance and also tying up some loose connections in the plots. That’s something I’d be happy to help with, I have the materials I modified for the 2008 run. I’d also love to be included as a helper in the promotional material writing process, especially the NZ larp guide (sounds familiar ) and/or the what is larp pamphlet if Jackie would like collaborators.

Whether I’ll be able to run The Black Hart of Camelot will depend on the timeframe. I want to re-run Forgotten Gods, and there’s a limit to the weekends I can spend running stuff.

Happy to proof read if fresh eyes are needed on any copy.

Tanya

I’m not very good with arty, creative stuff but happy to help man the stand.

Happy to help man the stand on the weekend!

Ill be more than happy to man the stand and talk to people about larping
Was planning on going pretty much everyday anyway !

I swear I didn’t mean to steal your idea  It started off as “a black white and document with all the larps currently running in Auckland” then it turned into “in New Zealand” and then it had “and some stuff for beginners, like definitions of terms, how to use Diatribe, who to ask for help” and then bam, I accidentally stole your concept.

Thanks to everyone that’s volunteered - we’ll set up a backstage forum for everyone that’s interested and figure out who is working on what. This is definitely something everyone can be involved in. Clarinet (Luisa?), do you have any graphic skill at all?

No problem, our ideas are totally different. Mine was going to be in colour.

Actually getting stuff done is much more impressive than good ideas… and I tend to be stronger on the latter than the former.

I will be able to provide details of KiL Quest III on the East Cape (Ruatoria) for the New Zealand LARP guide and could produce a couple of KiL Quest III posters for NZLARPS at Armageddon as I own a (rather tempremental) OKI C9500 and can print A3 in (stunning laser) colour. I could provide KiL Quest III books for NZLARPS at Armageddon, and volunteer for work at the desk… just need to know when it is and where. I will try to volunteer my friend Jimi Hills of Kaea Media for poster design, but I don’t know if he will do it. He did all the mechandising of Te Matatini o te Ra in Gisborne, and the set of Hyundai Code, so that gives you an idea of the quality of work I might be able to convince him too make for us. He produces high quality printed garments and can e-mail examples of work and designs in progress. 8)

Yup Clarinet is Luisa.
Not really i dont think so anyway.

Luisa

WIll happily help man the stand, and will help out with whatever odd-jobs and bits-and-bobs may need doing

Okay, I’m gonna apply for the Monday off of work, so hopefully I’ll be able to help out (all I ask is an hour or two to peruse the Final-Day Sales )

I’d like to offer Tangleball as a creative space for making resources (such as photoboards) for the Armageddon stall. Maybe we could have a big collaborative session or two for making stuff. We have some materials here already, such as cardboard, sheets of MDF, etc. We can also do screen printing here if t-shirts are needed.
