St. Wolfgang's Vampire Hunters!

This thread from the gear forum tells of a NZ based website which sells some appropriate costumery.

What if any range of colours do they have, White for example?
that would depend on the order itself, benedictine monks usually wore black, francisican brown, others wore green.
But Carl wants to play the Pope, and he wears white!

(Or he wants a white cloak for his teutonic knight).

Pleased to meet you Anna!

I’d be happy to fight with you. I’d be even happier to fight with a group of fellow Hospitallers - we can’t let you or the Templars take all the credit!

As for costuming I already have a gambeson, Hospitaller tunic and black hose. I’m planning on getting a Norman helm from http://www.esford.com/ soonish. Boots and mail are coming from folks I train with in Sydney and weapons I’ll getting from Ryan at some point. There aren’t many places (that I know of) in Oz that do decent LARP weapons, sadly.

That just leaves a few misc bits and pieces like camp gear and what not which shouldn’t be much hassle to dig up.

A shield maybe? Or are you planning on a 2H sword?

(I recommend the shield, they are worth their weight in gold in larp fighting).

That Norman Helmet - 18 gauge - AU$170 seems like a pretty good price. When you’re done you could answer my “Outfit a knight with $1000” question on rpg.net.

People seem to get rather crazy whenever the talk starts around WHITE…

Do you think he will take the name His Holiness Megilindir the Second?

Probably not.

I was initially thinking 2 handed hammer for the whole ‘Hammer of Witches’ feel, but that’s more Warhammer Sigmarite. I’m leaning towards sword and shield, despite having done almost no work in it - I primarily train in hand and a half broadsword.

I have the Pembridge Great Helm, but I want something a bit less unweildy for LARP combat.

That thread had some damn good ideas - I’ll see about putting a post or two in over the weekend.

Ummm the Teutonics were effectively broken as an order at the battle of Grunwald in 1410, and we all know what happened to the Templars, the hospitallers outlasted both AND got given an entire Island.

So I think they won 8)

i chose teutonics because they existed in transylvania, Transylvania…vampires…kind of a no brainer really.

Teutonic Knights wear White with a black cross, leave me alone

The temptation to go “Neener, neener!” is almost overwhelming.

And they never drink… wine.

Anyone knows any inet links to info on female religious orders of that time? I got so lost in Google and Wikipedia that I need some guidance here

I think there were nun…

Gratuitous Pun Alert

The Order of the Glorious Saint Mary was founded in Italy in 1233, and approved by Pope Alexander IV in 1261. It was the first religious order of knighthood to grant the rank of “militissa” to women. The Order was suppressed by Sixtus V in 1558. (source Women Knights in the Middle Ages)
Probably the closest you are going to get :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, but not many would allow a woman to fight, so where is the fun in that?

I found this while searching, might be what you are looking for Lucy.

Female Orders of Knighthood

The Order of the Hatchet

There is a case of a clearly military order of knighthood for women. It is the order of the Hatchet (orden de la Hacha) in Catalonia. It was founded in 1149 by Raymond Berenger, count of Barcelona, to honor the women who fought for the defense of the town of Tortosa against a Moor attack. The dames admitted to the order received many privileges, including exemption from all taxes, and took precedence over men in public assemblies. I presume the order died out with the original members.

Also this

The Teutonic order accepted consorores who assumed the habit of the order and lived under its rule; they undertook menial and hospitaller functions.

Well I a planning on being a member of one of the monastic orders, but if its the fighting side of it you interested in the go with any of the sugestions made earlier.

was just trying to answer the question aiwe posted earlier.

Wow, so many ideas! Thank you, guys

In fact, what I was looking for is a nun character from an officially non-fighting order, but still fighting for the reason of being member of St Wolfgang’s order.

Tiiiiggeeeerrrr!!!
How strictly authentic we are supposed to be?

The idea was to be fairly authentic, but if you have an idea which makes sense or can be well explained, run with it.
We don’t have to stick like glue to super acurate history - (we are going to have to make some allowances mostly for female characters) but i don’t want to completely rewrite history.

Try to make your ideas fit as much as you can - only deviate when you have to. ie. an order might start a few years earlier.

The Hospitallers had female members at one point, though I could not say when, or what their duties were.

vampire hunting? praize the lorda!
