Rhys Darby: Away Larping

"Ahh there’s nothing like dark skies and rain to bring out one’s sense of adventure. I’m away larping…"
Flight of the Conchords offsider Rhys Darby, on Twitter today

No idea what this is referencing, if anything, but thought I’d point it out. Dude has 13000 people reading his Twitter feed after all. (He’s in NZ at the moment, Auckland I presume.)

O Rly? It’d be pretty cool to have him come larping with us!

It was David that was saying last night that Heath emailed Vin Diesel and told him to come larp with us next time he’s in NZ and apparently got a reply saying he’ll give that a thought.

(Vin Diesel is a known roleplayer and larper)

It would be awesome to have either of them come along. All advertising is a good thing right? Especially the positive stuff we’ve had this year.

He would be a right laugh to larp along side tbh

This probably counts as the most unexpected thing I’ve ever heard. It would be awesome. I bags being on whatever side he’s on due to the utter terror of facing someone with that many muscles on a battle field.

Vin Diesel larps? Cool. I wonder if they let him keep his armour from Chronicles of Riddick or whatever it was called.

He actually used the set of helion prime after filming the chronicles of riddick to run a larp for his friends

Neat, a GM with connections! Hey Vin, want to come to NZ?!

yeah thats pretty much what heath tried

Hey, trying can’t hurt. Well done Heath for trying!

It makes me wonder if ‘larping’ will become a commonly used verb if used enough… just like googling.

to the best of my knowledge Muppet it has been such a verb for about the last 15 years. I was using it that way back in 1993

I think the real trick is turning the word from an acrynom into a noun - i.e., “larp” instead of “LARP” - which I’ve been working on for a few years now

What would the definitions of ‘larping’ be then, given what Rhys said?
The most common that I know and use is: Larping, verb, ‘participating in a larp’.

But I don’t think that from what Rhys said he was using the common definition.

he could have been doing some table top stuff?

at 10 am in the morning?

unless there is a celebrity underground larp cult that we don’t know about - which frankly I find a little upsetting - why don’t they want to play with us? :smiling_imp:

Ray Bradbury is going to kill us all.

any one as tempted as I am to go along and ask him what the hell he was up to?
