oWoD - Changeling - The Duchy of Flint

Hello,

As some of you know I have been thinking about running Changeling for the past few weeks. It is going to be oWOD MET Shinning Host, set in Southern England, predominately around the cities of Portsmouth, Southampton and Chichester with a nice healthy dose of the New Forest thrown in. There are other areas, but their parts will not be so involved…for now.

Each of the areas will have a distintive feel, and I have attached a file for you to get an idea of where your character is likely to be from, and what the world is like. When you chose your home barony then you will gain 1 automatic level of local knowledge for that area under your skills, so you will have advantages over non-locals when finding places, or knowing the history, this skill can be bought up. You can live in any of the areas of the domain, but the New Forest itself is a little more restrictive.

I am also going to restrict some Kiths, generally the more unusual ones, such as Clurichaun and Selkie’s, this does not mean you are not allowed to play them, but I am not going to throw them out willy-nilly and will want a good background from you first, they are after all the rarer kith’s. There is also going to be a restriction on House Scathach and due to the history of the area I do not want to be flooded with Sidhe, there are lots of other kith’s out there. If you are going for a Sidhe, or a titled non-Sidhe, for the moment I am only allowing Squires and Knights, the rest of the hierarchy is already in place, though a lot are grumps, so you never know where character could go. I can affiliate you with certain nobility if you wish, and I think your character fits if you are titled, if you are not let me know if there is anything you are looking to associated with and I can see what options are out there and send you a message back.

I am thinking of having an evening where folks can get together and create characters, but you can create them now as it is just going to be a basic starting Character. Let me know what you would like to do.

My web Brownie will be constructing a Forum for me soon and I will link to this when it is done. Hopefully very soon!

Now what I need to do is decide a day to run it, I was thinking of Second Friday of the month, but I have no idea if this clashes with anything, so now is a good time to start getting a date pinned down. This is just the basics for the moment. So fire away with any questions you have and please, look at the attachment.

Keep Dreaming,
Lynn

Awesome, really looking forward to this

Hello again,

So I know some of you are not familiar with Changeling so I was wondering what people would want most next. The bigger barony descriptions or a short descriptions of each kith.

Let me know

Lynn

Your information so far seems to be using a lot of jargon which I am assuming that the regular oWoD (one world of darkness?) players know about.
I’d just like to point out that not all of us larpers know these systems - me being a prime example.
So if you are interested in enticing new players along to your game, I would suggest you explain more about what is “Changeling”.
If you only want experienced players, then carry on, and I’ll stop reading.

hope this helps.

oWoD = Old World of Darkness

oWoD was the setting for vampire/werewolf/changling/mage/etc before the product relaunch which changed HEAPS about the setting and feel of the game (like the difference between 1990 batman movie and batman begins)

Changling is a game involving courts of fae rather than clans of vampires. Its got rather a different feel to it.

Can I ask the ST…is this a modern game? Personaly I’d be keen for a victorian or 1920’s to 1930’s era game. And I think that a period genre monthly game would be something that alot of people could sink their teeth into.

Hi Hannah,

Thanks for the feedback, you have actually caught me in the middle of writing a Jargon Buster and Break down of the Kiths (kind of like clans in Vampire), and I will now be adding a little ‘What is Changeling?’ to my list of things to create.

The last thing I want is to only attract experienced players, I want as many new and shiny players as possible, the more the merrier, that can come along and play this great game. I am also going to be having a rules session at some point to help people learn the rules, have a play and chat and ask any questions to make things easier for people that do not know this system at all or refresh people that do. But bear with me, it’s been a day and some discussions on a drunken evening. I will get there on the end, and with my obsession you will probably have more info that you will ever need.

So keep an eye out for the Jargon Buster (the new title now so much better than the old), the Kith description and What is Changeling coming up in the next few days. When we have the forum up and running I will have a whole section of things like this and also a suggested film list that could get you in the mood and the ideas in your head.

See obsession!

Lynn

Hey Cameron,

The game is a modern game, and as I have the last 50 years of the history in my head, or written down (ok also a lot longer if you look at my history time line, which I will post on the forum at some point) I do not think I will change that, even if that now sounds like an awesome idea.

Lynn

Hey all,

OK as promised please find a Jargon Buster attached, I had some quiet time at work, but now I must get on with doing what I am paid for.

Keep Dreaming,

Lynn

Hey Lynn, so this will be running monthly? Whenabouts were you looking at starting the campaign? Is it set to run indefinitely, or do you have it planned for a year/two/three etc?

Hey Anna,

Great questions! Yes it will be running monthly and I was thinking of starting the campaign in September, though as someone has mentioned that first Saturday of the month is generally free (I will have to check that out) it could be the start of October. At the moment there was no idea of rounding it up, so for the moment I think that it will be an on-going campaign.

Lynn

Ok, well I finally have it for you, a ‘What is Changeling?’ Document. This is what you do when you go away right? Write up documents for your players.

I would also like to let you know that I now have a forum up and running. Mostly, you need to request permission be to able to join, but my web Brownie can sort that for me. The link is rpg-forums.com/forums then go to RPG forums and you can find the link the Changeling there. If you want to talk to me there my name is the immodest Master Of Dreams.

Well I am going to get back to my great views, comfy room and fresh air now and enjoy my break from the city.

Keep Dreaming

Thanks Lyn (and others), sorry if my comment the other day was too brusque - should have waited for the coffee to kick in. Will read these docs and see what all the fuss is about.

Hey Hannah,

Not at all, loved the feedback, needed the feedback.

Lynn

Opps have notice that I called the Fae Side of a Changeling their seeming, sorry that should be Fae Mein, the seeming is the mortal side. Silly me!

Lynn

Well, I have finally finished the Kith document. Thought I have not yet put the Sidhe houses in a document, but this should you work out what you would like to play.

This can also be found under the Changeling section of rpg-forums.com/forums. You can post there if you are a member at the moment in the out of character section and get information from the resources area. The other parts of the group will not be running till nearer the time, but it is a good place to start asking your questions, looking for other players you may want to pair up, or group up with. Or just seeing what is going on. In the mean time have a look at the Kith document.

Hi Guys,

As the web monkey that is trying to build the forums for Changeling… thought I would let you know they are still under construction… They have been set up that you need an administraotor to activate your acount… only the email it is meant to send me when you sign up are not working. So I have now changed that to hopefully be that you can activate your own account via an e-mail.

I have spotted a few people that look like non-bot accounts  but as many of us use non-real names it is hard to tell from account name alone… so if you have tried to join and haven’t had your account activated just let me of Lynn know (post here or PM etc… ) Once things get rolling I would like to see people use their character names as thier account names so it is easy to administer accounts and thier access to things.

When you first join you will have read access to the fourms, you will have post access to the OOC forums under Changeling… there are a few other forums for games that my UK friends and I where oing to be running but never managed to get started properly after I moved to NZ, they are kinda dead in the water right now… though I did successfully get the dice mod working (you can roll dice in a post… 4 nigths of my life getting that working :stuck_out_tongue:).

Once I have finished setting up the user groups properly you will get added to the groups that will allow you to post in to the character section… and once I have trained Lynn how to look after personal forums we will set that up (similar to the running Werewolf and Vampire games.) There will be the option for forums for Motleys (groups of players as well.

So in short Lynn has started posting stuff (a few pdfs on the game and whats in it), but the forum is still a little rough round the edges  just get in touch if you have any problems (I am Storyteller on that forum and you can PM me there or on here… and many of you have me on facebook already )

Thanks,
Chris

Some of you have mentioned that you do not know non-weapon LARPs at all, and a few of you have pointed out to me you do not know the Old World of Darkness system. So please find attached a very simplified example of how a challenge can go. Warning: - does contain mild graphic violence towards Bobs!

Very excited to read this! Love owod when done well. Will you be focusing more on role playing and story crafting than number crunching? I’ll hit you up with more questions when I’m back from Europe and not stuck typing on a cell phone!

Considering how much I hate the number crunching (ask any one who has every watched me stat a D&D character) and how much I love to tell a tale it will definitely be about the storytelling and role-play. A lot of things in the area will have influences on the World and the stories I am telling. There are more than a few ideas running around my head, which will be little one off situations and longer over running plots. There is even one that will involve use of real world investigation skills (Google is your friend) and I am also going to focus on things from your background and relationships to other players, NPC’s and locations.

The game is going to be starting on Friday the 5th October, and is going to be based around the festival of Pennons, this should ease people in and give them a chance to learn the rules and to get to know the main area in the game after that the plots are going to start.

If you want to register on the forums just follow the link and we can start looking at creating a character for you. Some people are forming a motley, some are thinking of playing individually, all is good. I will be having a character creation session at some point but what with Chimera next weekend and Rarotonga the two weekends after that it is not going to be easy. It looks like weekend of the 15th should be good.

Hope you have a great time in Europe.
