nzLARPS on 20/20 - Oct 8th

Just saw the trailer for this - it doesn’t appear to be on the 20/20 website tho.

Didn’t see enough to make any judgement, but there was some swordfightin’ and some mass dancin’ going on. It looked… interesting.

But (as I said on NZRaG) the people who cut the story aren’t the people who are promo’ing the story. Wait and see.

I hate having my photo taken. I’d rather have my eye poked out with a hot spork.

So, upon learning of the 20/20 presence only the first night of Chimera, I was quietly mortified. Video is worse. The horror. :frowning:

I’d hoped to stay out of the limelight and not reveal my hobby of choice (er, lifestyle) to my co-workers.

Imagine my dismay when my “childe” (The “Angel” to my “Darla”) was Hugh, the reporter. This was pretty much my worst nightmare come true. But I decided right there that I was gonna do my best to go whole hog and make sure the dude had a great experience in hopes it would positively colour the story. It made The Great Exhibition very un-immersive for me. I had the camera in my face a lot - particularly at high-tension scenes. I had to break character to explain stuff to Hugh and give him tips. All not ideal for how I’d hoped to spend my night.

But, in the end it was worth it. He appeared to have a great time and was utterly exhausted by the end. The other two crew were absolutely delightful AND delighted. They were glowing with complimentary things to say about LARPing and LARPers in general. Things like: “You are all so strong, it takes such confidence to do this.” And: “Hugh’s really come out of his shell. We’ve never seen him like this. He’s having such a good time - it’s awesome!” This left me so hopeful that the story would be positive and well-rounded, not just wacky “oh look at this dorks dressed up in capes.”

Here’s hoping, huh? I won’t be watching it, but hope to hear your reviews here. Fingers crossed!!

I just saw the clip. It showed some swordfighting, and the dancing scenes from Spy Hard, and a soundbyte of Hamish saying “I want to sleep with as many women as possible.” A voice over of “They let us into their world” - it didn’t appear judgmental, as Morgue says.

Having insider knowledge of what all that was about, such as that the dancing at Spy Hard was a 60s movie gimmick, and that Hamish was playing James Bond at Spy Hard (ergo the goal to sleep with as many women as possible), it’s hilarious.

From an outsider’s perspective, I guess we suddenly look like a weird sex club…

And the text messages from family begin… “When were you going to tell us you were going to be on 20/20 Jared?”

This brings to mind my first and only experience at an SCA event where I stumbled across a merry band singing a song with the chorus of:

“If you can’t get laid in the SCA you can’t get laid at all!”

Totally unrelated (I assure you), my St. Wolfgang’s character purportedly will get on famously with Hamish’s. Hamish, PM me, eh?

LOL!

Where can one find this trailer? Link?

When I was in high school, our group of larpers was sitting in Media Studies class one day talking about Mordavia. One of the ‘cool’ girls overheard and gave us a disdainful look. “What’s Mordavia?” she asks. Matt Moore, without skipping a beat, says “It’s a sex club.” I’m not sure she one hundred percent believed us, but she never asked again.

Sorry Ryan

Oh no, save this one entirely for meeting IC with no prior OOC prep. Trust me on this. I’m the GM

I trust and obey! Hamish, don’t you dare PM me!

Link to the trailer…

If you read the previous post, it is not available online so far that we have found. Me and Tigger saw it on the TV. Zara’s in it too!

I think that’s the “Balls to the Wall” song. Lucky they weren’t singing any of the rude stuff

SCA is the Society for Consenting Adults, right?
SCA is the Society for Consenting Adults, right?
I’ve heard that.

So tonight’s the night. Anyone else going to be perched nervously in front of the telly? I’ve got a couple of other larpers coming round so we can watch it together. Something about solidarity in numbers.

I remember when the Mordavia Nightline article was on TV, the Mordavia forums were flooded by our discussion. Good times.

I’m going to be hiding in the corner peering out nervously, because I’m watching it with a non larper :open_mouth:

Yup. And I’m mentally writing that “never trust a journo” post, just in case its as awful as it looks.

I already phoned my parents and warned them :stuck_out_tongue:

Just saw the trailer. Aieeeeee!

Good work Steph.

Well, that wasn’t to bad at all. Hamish and Anna got to be articulate and I think they were trying to give us a fair showing.

And, like, they sure were aware of what we were saying about them. [waves Hi to 2020 crew]
Man, I had no idea my voice was so highpitched…
