Candidate Statement- National Secretary

Hi, I’m Ellen and I’d like to carry on as National Secretary. I feel that I’ve started to make some headway in the role, and I want to be able to build on that. We’re getting there with bank access and with the database- I’d like to keep that going, and get us where we want to be in terms of organisation. In the coming year, one thing I’d like to achieve in the Secretary role is reminder e-mails going out to members before their membership expires. It’s a small thing, but a significant one, and well within my skillset to achieve. I’m friendly and approachable, which I think is a big plus, and I’m passionate about encouraging and supporting people- both to join the community, and to thrive within it. I’d like to keep doing so as National Secretary.

2012 has been a big year for NZLARPS, and the National Committee has been working hard to deal with serious issues- we’ve met the problems as a team, and I believe we’re a good one. I want to continue to be part of that work, and that team, and be part of pushing LARPing in New Zealand onwards and upwards.

I hope you will vote for me- but most of all I hope you will vote. Buy-in from the membership is vital in ensuring the National Committee has a successful year.

Candidate Statement - Information Technology Officer

I held the post of IT Officer in the national committee before this one, and would like to do so again. While the post has been vacant I’ve been continuing to do a lot of the IT work for the society, just without the title. But I feel I’ll be better placed to continue with this work and to move forward with more strategic IT development if I have the mandate of the community to do so. The IT Officer position on the national committee is comparable to the Equipment Officer role in the regional branch committees, leading the maintenance and development of core strategic resources that our community relies on.

I’d like to support the other members of the national committee and the regional committees and projects with their IT plans. I’d also like to continue development on the NZLARPS website, which has still to reach its potential as a venue for news, articles, and information about the NZ larp community, as well as a more fully fledged membership database. I’ve been a software developer for around 16 years so I’m well placed to do this.

Finally, I’d like the opportunity to help the national committee with its general activities. NZLARPS is a fantastic organisation, the kind I always dreamed that our community could have in its corner. I want to be part of helping it to continue to grow and fulfill our needs.
