Makeup, paint and tools

Hi everyone,

I am doing a makeup order at the end of next week. (Saturday, May 7), to ensure delivery in time for the weekend game. The current exchange rate makes the prices really good!

I’m limiting the choice because it can get really confusing. These are two brands I use, love and recommend. If there’s something you want that you can’t see here, please email me on kara@paintedfaces.co.nz . Even if you’re not sure quite what you want, tell me what it’s for and I can probably figure something out for you!

Email your order to: kara@paintedfaces.co.nz

Kryolan paints – translucent, easy wearing, not greasy, doesn’t flake. Great stuff, but not opaque. My favourite paints for base colours and blending.

There are two size options.

Palette refill cakes (0.14 oz, 4gm) - $6 – these are quite small, but all you need if you’re applying a few details to your face, or makeup just round your eyes, something like that. They’ll do about 20 faces. Great for an accent colour.

2.5 oz or 70gm cakes - $18 – these are the large cakes in the Nzlarps kit and my kit. They will do 2 full bodies or 100-500 faces. You may not need this much, but it’s a good size for getting a larger sponge in for faster coverage.

Colours (if you want a colour not specified, please ask):
[ul]White
Black
Bear Brown
Blood Red
Red (lighter than blood red)
Orange
Bright yellow
Leaf green (light)
Forest green (dark)
Royal Blue (dark)
turquoise (light)
Grey (light)[/ul]

There is also a 6 colour palette (palette refill size, as above) - $35 contains white, black, red, yellow, green, blue

Wolfe Brothers paints. These have gorgeous bright opaque colours and there is no blacker black for line work. They have beeswax in them though, which means that they can melt and run more if you get hot and they don’t breathe quite as well as the Kryolan. My favourites for detail work.

Sizes:

30gm - $12 - half the size of the kryolan cakes, but plenty of paint for face and hands, will last a few games.

45gm - $17 – doing arms and legs too? This might be a better size then.

Colours:
[ul]White
Black
Grey
Red
Orange
Yellow
Light Green
Green
Light Blue[/ul]

6 colour palette (0.2oz each colour) - $24 – White, Black, Yellow, Red, Green, Blue

12 colour palette (0.2oz each colour) - $30 - White, Black, Yellow, Orange, Hot Pink, Red, Brown, Lime Green, Green, Lt Blue, Purple, Dark Blue

Tools:

Sponges - $1.50 each. Circular sponge. Cut them in half for a flat edge, or use whole to cover large surfaces quickly. Mostly I cut mine up.

Brushes - [ul] #5 Round - $7.50 – Great brush for linework like eyebrows, flame edges, water drops, writing, outlining.
#3 Round - $6.00 - Fine brush for extra small details like eyelashes, tiny flowers, dots, scrollwork.[/ul]

Since I don’t yet have an ecommerce system up and running, (working on it!) I think the easiest format for an email order would be something like this.

Brand, Size, Colour, Price (ok, I can work out the price, but you’re going to need to know it anyway :stuck_out_tongue:)
ie.
Kryolan, 2.5oz, Blood Red, $18
Wolfe, 30gm, Black, $12
Sponge x 2, $3
#3 Round Brush, $6

Please include your full name in the email, especially if it’s not the same as your email address! I’ll need to match them up to payments.

By the way, these prices include postage into NZ. If you aren’t attending the Teonn weekend game and you need them posted somewhere within NZ, we’ll have to organise that seperately.

Thanks,
Kara

Hey Kara,

What would you reccomend for doing hands + face for orks?

Forest greeen Kryolan all the way.

If you want nice strong eyebrows and frown lines, you could add Wolfe black or just the Kryolan black palette size. The Kryolan will blend and shade better, the Wolfe will give you heavy black lines.

Having seen Magni enough times, which red would you recommend the Blood or the lighter Red?

The lighter one. The blood red is a darker, browny red, good for shading, but not really a “flame” colour. If you’re looking at just one colour, go for the brighter red.

A couple of small appliances can make a non-human look infinitely more believable, and save on having to constantly re-touch;
Ears…
Nose…
Teeth…
or…
Half mask…

If you poke around, you might find somewhere in NZ has them, as they seem to be a well distributed range.

Though you probably want more green like these guys

Off topic, but how much do I love that shield that looks like it’s made out of part of a busted-down door. <3 <3 <3!!!

I should pay more attention to the photos :stuck_out_tongue:

2 days to go if you want to put an order in.

Looking at Morhkin marks and doing them myself, I’m wondering about kryolan vs wolf brothers vs airbrush tattoos (as by Liz).

I think it’s better I pull off the circles myself freehand, but if they could be airbrushed that would be cool, but how? As for the designs in the center, freehand works best.

So which paint, and what about the fixing powder? (Which, by the way, got lots of comments from other Morhkin last game about ‘How is your mark still there?’)

I certainly haven’t investigated it, but rubber stamps seemed like a really good idea. Although possibly not cheap.

It could be paid for by interested Morkhin helping pay for it.

Freehanding concentric circles is about the hardest thing out. I really think an airbrush and a stencil is the easiest option. If you’re worried about the small gaps that would be necessary to avoid the stencil falling out, they can be filled in with a brush.

If you insist on hand painting them, using the top and bottom of a paper coffee cup worked reasonably well. Just make sure it’s empty.

I have actually just had someone else ask about the fixing powder. I cannot find it anywhere, I have no idea why. So I’ve been experimenting and honestly, talcum powder seems to work just as well. and it’s dead cheap.

Joker, do you know if it’s similar stuff?

While we’re ordering stuff, I should have thought to ask. Does the NZLARPS kit need anything replacing/adding?

We pulled the makeup kit out for Witch house, it was looking pretty good to me I dont think we need to get any of the basics

You know, I wish I knew. I expect the base is largely talc, but with a bit extra as well. Ideally fixer powder should be transparent, which talc tends not to be. So there must be something else…

They sell fixer spray instead Kara

After a long and mostly fruitless search online, as best as I can work out it is talc but then there are a few chemicals added in to keep it dryer like silica and a few things to stop it going greasy when it gets damp like isostearyl palmitate.

So as far as I can tell it is talc but improved to be more transparent and less affected by moisture on the skin so presumably less affected by sweat.

Also as far as Robza’s Morkhin tattoo goes, that was sealed with fixer spray, and maybe a little fixer powder. The fixer spray is a very good option, but is expensive. But worth it for long games like this. Or people like me who just sweat…
