Larping things I'm really enjoying at the moment

Ok so I thought I would start a post sharing all the things I am enjoying related to Larp right now, and would love it if others shared theirs:

Discussion for our Larp in the Park project are going well, and we are applying to become a project of NZLARPS this week!

I am eagerly awaiting more chimera characters, the one I have is awesome!

I just got a new sewing machine, just in time for Chimera costumey madness!

+1 I forgot how awesome it is to have a blue-sky larp discussion where we could all chuck ideas around

I am really interested in seeing how this turns out (also: new campaign in Auckland after the drought, woo-hoo!)

On my end: I really enjoyed doing Hindenburg, and I’m totally going to do another big game next year if the Wellington Committee wants to do Armageddon. I’ve just re-read Boffo’s Birthday Bash as prep for casting and have been appreciating its Wodehousianness. I’ve been having fun reading people’s casting responses for Moorstepper (you’re all powerful wizards, who knew?) And I’ve got a couple of ideas kicking around in my head for new theatreforms and some time after Chimera to maybe write one of them.

The LARP in the Park thing is definitely a highlight for me. I am also looking forward to seeing how my game for Chimera pans out, as well as the games I’m playing at the event. No Quarter sounds amazing - really looking forward to crewing. The Crucible day game also looks like it will be great fun, and the Korasuran ball will ensure that weekend remains particularly hectic for me (but in a good way).

I’m really excited about Chimera - we have a lot of new people coming and I can’t wait to see the games come to life, there’s some new and ambitious games being tried. Personally, I’m looking forward to playing Dry Spell again amd rerunning Romeo and Ethel.

I’m also inspired by IdiotSavant’s post to get my games published. So I’ve been starting work on that. I work better in groups so if other people want to buddy up with me for motivation and support, let me know.

I’m contemplating rerunning Fleet St later in the year, and keen to play Larp in the Park.

I would be! I do really want to get Robin Hood up to scratch

+1 for this post, thank you Prema.

I’m really enjoying the sense of community and friendship even outside of current larps, a strongly felt hangover from when I joined last year. I still feel like “the new kid” sometimes but there’s usually something that happens or is just said just at the right time, or someone asks me a question that I know the answer to! I haven’t said it nearly enough but y’all are such an amazing group of people, and I’m so looking forward to many years ahead of roleplaying with you all and spending more time with those I haven’t managed to yet. /sappy

In terms of a more directly larp related comment - I’m really looking forward to GMing for the first time when Mike and I finally finish writing. It terrifies and excites me to both massive degrees.

I’m also really keen for Alpha Alpha Asgard coming up at the end of the month down here! I’ve heard some great things about it, and now I get to play it!

Also assembling new costume bits for Crucible is pretty fun.

Gotta say, as a first time Larper I’m loving The Crucible and I’m looking forward to hearing about Larp in the park as well

I really love Crucible at the moment. I’m writing stories for my main character, and my backup character almost non stop.

I’m also really enjoying running the affectionately termed ‘mages in space’ game. Its a lot of fun to be on this side of the curtain.

I offered to run a game at the next Fright Night and they said Welcome Aboard! That was fun.

I’m looking forward to what else gets run at that con.

Which one?

Well, if you want a take a tabletop trip to the Forbidden Plateau, to stop agents of Golden Promise Ministries from doing something worse than waking The Sleeper and bringing about heaven on earth^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H the apocalypse, then try Flyover Country.

I’ll add that to my “looking forward to” list then

Other things I’m enjoying: asking overseas GMs for copies of games from their backcatalogue and getting positive responses (Moorstepper is one product of this program, and there will hopefully be others).

Face of Oblivion - it’s a good pickup game and the doominess of it should suit the convention theme. One more run to check it out and then I’ll hit Publish on the little thing. (Which would also be a happy, come to think of it.)

Cool. Its an excellent game which deserves far wider distribution.

(Intercon next year has a space theme; you should try and get someone to run it there)

Stuff enjoying in my larp space

The formation of the nzlarps Hamilton branch and committee, while still very much in it’s infancy is a long term goal which I’ve been eyeing for YEARS. And there’s a bit of cohesiveness emerging with the existing LRP group Quest which is kind of cool too. I think there’s just as much potential for larp in Hamilton as for Auckland and Wellington, the ball is now rolling, here’s to more happening!

Running parlour larps in Hamilton - we have a versatile small venue here in Hamilton and I am enjoying watching the larp’s I’ve run there unfold around me. So far we’ve had Graduation day (went very well and am re-running at Chimera), Sunset Claws (several players didn’t show last minute with next to no warning so could have been better as several plots were affected) and most recently Down and Out in Middenburg (which went splendidly, though several players ran out of personal plot very quickly).

Bringing new people into the hobby. We’ve had modest new person numbers actually turning up for games but have a significant number interested in the hobby.

Planning Medusa… I’m excited to be heading this, though the response so far has been a little lukewarm, it still looks like we’ll go ahead, maybe with modest numbers but it’s all about building platforms. I’m looking forward to bringing more people in from our newly formed committee to help drive things forward.

I also love that I can count watching the Muppets as research for larp writing

Things that im enjoying larpwise

im loving the chance to play with new people in Auckland as part of the larger Larp community with both Crucible and Chimera approaching
Planing my run of “Dance and the Dawn” later in the year which will be my first Larp in Auckland not part of Chimera
Making things for people in the Larp community
Regular combat trainings on Sunday at Cornwell Park

Positive LARPing things! I would like to note that I am a tiny baby LARPer (I played my first game in May) and I’ve found the community really kind and welcoming. I was really intimidated about starting out LARPing and everyone involved was absolutely lovely and made me feel right at home. I’ve just become involved with Crucible and literally everyone I have spoken to on the subject has been really lovely and welcoming and has answered my newbie questions with infinite patience and although I know that as with any community there is drama, my experience with LARP and LARPers as a whole has been really wonderful!

And this is my first post on Diatribe, too! I’m glad that it’s about something so positive. (:

I am really loving running the monthly Auckland new world changeling game. We’ve almost run it a full year now and I feel like it is really beginning to pickup and become interesting. As a smaller larp, I love those moments where players send me excited messages or I overhear people talking about the game. I hope our players are having as much fun playing it as I am running it. I also enjoyed my first experience running a one-off at hydra and am looking forward to working on some more in the future.

In terms of playing, there are a lot of things I am looking forward to in Crucible, both the GM run events and the Korashuran ball that Emily is organizing. Playing in a big campaign game is fun . I am intrigued by larp in the park and am hoping that Anna does rerun her fleet street game so I can play it  I am also excited by a lot of the ideas people tossing around for games that will come up sometime in the future. It is cool to be part of a community with so much creativity.

I am also really hoping to get down and crew for one of the final sessions of 33AR, it looks like a great game.
