KapCon 19 - January 2010

Just a heads-up, Aucklanders.

It’s currently TEN BLOODY DEGREES outside my house at the moment. Weather is tipped to improve by Thurs of next week, but do keep an eye on www.metservice.co.nz just in case. Fingers crossed you all will bring some heat to you.

OK, I’m lying about the temperature. It’s actually 10.5. 11.1 in the city. And Metservice tells me it feels like 8. We’ve got the fire roaring.

… Anna and Tigger, we’re getting the flannel sheets ready for you guys!

You are welcome to borrow some of our heat. Far too much up here.

Eeeeeeeee!! I can’t wait for this weekend, this is going to be so much fun. My costume for Reunion is about 90% finished, and I’m happily browsing tourist sites for things to see and do in Wellington for my Friday and Monday of touristing and socialisation.

Good work on getting your costume done, im still mushy brained from trying to figure mine out. Oh well, 5 whole days to sort it out still

Im exactly the same. I have no clue so far for my costume. Must get onto that ASAP

Im going quite simplistic for my costume, I know what I want, but its just getting out and finding it somewhere thats not expensive. Tomorrow is my day off, so I’ll be able to get out then, I hope.

As has become something of a tradition (cue “Fiddler on the Roof” music") am inviting those who wish to back to my place Sunday night after Kapcon. The spa pool is on, and I will attempt to make sure the BBQ is clean.

If you intend to avail yourself of the spa pool, I suggest bringing togs and a towel.

I will have the address at Kapcon…

Please bring drinks, food, yourselves etc etc.

Cheers,
Norman

YAY WE’RE FLYING TOMORROW AND IT’S GOING TO BE AWESOME!!!

SO. EXCITED. ABOUT. KAPCON.

Thanks Norman, I have paintball Sunday, but might come after that, hang out with ya’ll OOC! hehe. I’ve had to work saturday day, so will only be there for the LARP now :frowning: But still, will be good to see some people in the flesh.

Going to Costume Cave on Wakefield tomorrow, popped in today before going to see Sherlock Holmes, was good to see so much that could be used, will have to get a last idea of what I want to wear before I venture down.

Oh man, what an epic KapCon. Thanks heaps to everyone who participated. It was supremely awesome. Special thanks to the Auckland crew for flying down. It was a real pleasure to host you and so nice to catch up again!

There were so many highlights, and so many beautiful costumes and so many great RPers there. I’m proud to say there were a disproportionate amount of awards going out to larpers this year. Congrats to Anna for winning the best RPer prize for the whole con and Bryn and Tigger for tying for second. Huge ups too to Stephanie whose larp “But Nobody Loses an Eye” won the Scenario Design Contest.

It was a really wonderful weekend with a great larp, some great games and heaps of good people. For all of those who couldn’t come but wanted to, we were thinking of you! And, again, huge huge praise for the organizers of the event and everyone involved in the big Saturday larp.

So good. Coming again. Can’t praise enough. Worth 10 hour drive. Both of them.

Oh my god, this was so so so SO very awesome! SO AWESOME.

I played in so many fantastic games, the larp was the best larp I’ve played in a long time (I may not shut up about it for a few months, apologies in advance) and the people made us feel so welcome, and like we were one of the crowd.

A special thank you to Jackie, for hosting me and Tigger in their lovely house and driving us around. Also thanks to Bryn (who hosted Nikki and Muppet) and Norman (host of Cameron and Blair) and Anthony as well, for hanging out with us and playing tourist all of Monday.

This event is of such a fantastic quality, I highly, highly recommend it. I can’t wait to see photos, and I’ll certainly be posting more stories when I’m less dead.

I totally agree, this weekend was so awesome. The tabletop games and the larp I played in were TOP NOTCH. I had so much fun. Expect me next year for kapcon 20!

Thank you guys, was nice seeing all of you, and hearing you guys all had such a good time makes all the work worthwhile.

Will see you all again soon at one of the other events this year (Fleet St, Wolfgangs, Chimera).

Keep an eye out tomorrow, I hope to put up a post about the LARP for Kapcon 20, and would love to get the input from everyone.

What an amazing weekend. This was the 3rd Kapcon I’ve been to and they just keep getting better, which is impressive because they were all so AWESOME!!

P.S. Larpers Rule

Yay!! What an amazing weekend. The tabletop games were amazing and the LARP was of very high quality. I cant begin to descibe either the awesome set dressing that was done. It really looked like we walked onto a space station, and not into a school.

Congratulations to our Anna who won best role player for the weekend (table top) and Tigger adn Bryn who came in runner up.
Congratulations to Blair who won GM’s choice for the Larp.

Auckland really represented. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks to the amazing hospitality of all the Wellingtonions who put us up in the houses and drove us around.

I guess I’ll toot my own horn here - because really it’s a chance to thank others.

I also won some prizes - best costume for the Larp, which I couldn’t have achieved without the encouragement and feedback of Moo, Kara and Anna. I also came in second place for highest scored GM at Kapcon, which I absolutely couldn’t have done without Bryn’s help - I’d never written a game before (or run one, really) and he really helped me develop my mechanics.

So, big ups to larpers yet again! Bringing the awesomeness in so many ways!

Hey, where are the photos at? I’m not friends with the right people on Facebook.

Most of them haven’t turned up yet (I think the official ones are on Norman’s camera). There are only a handful around that I’ve seen. Some are here: jennitalula.wordpress.com/2010/0 … nion-larp/

Ah yes, the best dressed faction:
