KapCon 19 - January 2010
Does anyone one think there would be space for an extra body on the trip down?

I’ve been meaning to go to one of these for a while.
I think most of us are intending to fly down so you’ll have to ask the nice people at Air NZ  But the group definitely has space for more, so far it’s me, Tigger, Muppet, Nikki, Moo, and Hamish.

I thought a buch of roleplayers would train it down and play some board games on the way …

the train isn’t worth it for a number of reaons, the two main being

1 - it costs more than flying generally
2 - it takes wayyyy longer

Roooooaaaaad trriiiiiipppp!
Except I’ll already be there, so not me

The escalation continues, 2008 a few people from the Chimera crowd came down to Wellington for Kapcon and a few people from Wellington went up for Chimera, 2009 6 people from the Chimera crowd were at Kapcon and 6 from Kapcon came up for Chimera, looks like in 2010 the exchange is going to keep growing

I like to think it started in 2007 when I went down to Kapcon on my own to play Flight of the Hindenburg, and came back raving about how cool it was.

Haha yeah I was trying to remember if you came down in 2007 or 2008, although you were the first of the “Chimera group” I met at Kapcon. I think you just played in the LARP that year didn’t you?

What about me? I should be on that list!

I’m coming down to check out the gaming scene in all, it seems to have got rave reviews and not just the LARPing. Plus there are already roleplayers I know down there that used to live in auckland long ago, so it will be nice to catch up with people too.

Haha watch out, I believe Kapcon was the first temptation for getting at least one of the Aucklanders to move down here. He kept coming down for that and got assimilated down here

Hey that wouldn’t be too bad…you could use some more good roleplayers down there

OOOOOOOOOOOH BURN! YEAH! I WENT THERE!

Nah in all seriousness, wellington wouldn’t be too bad a place to live from what I hear.

Plus the people I know from there are great roleplayers

Yikes, sorry Blair! You should be on that list indeed. Make that me, Tigger, Muppet, Nikki, Moo, Hamish and Blair.

I’m liking the look of this. Bring on the intercity larping!

Add me to that list too please Anna

And add me and Daniel Edman to the list too please, Anna!

Wooo!! It’s exciting to see that list of names grow!

Welcome welcome one and all! I feel the Wellington/Auckland love!

It’s not that much more expensive if you sort out your booking…

$45 for a flight or $49 for train…

As a roleplayer I know which I would prefer with a few friends.

Thank you for sharing your preference with us Adam. Since you’ve not stated that you’re coming, I’m not sure what impact your preference has on this discussion, but thank you for sharing with the class regardless.

Me, personally, would rather not spend 10 hours on a train each way when I have a long and action-packed gaming weekend in the middle and will be flying instead. If this reduces my geek cred, so be it. I will have to do something supremely geeky (like, oh, I don’t know, organise a larping convention) to gain some of it back

I agree you get an extra 9 hours or so in capital city.

Te Papa, The New Zealand Film Archives, The Embasy Theatre…I think I can suggest a few ways for the group fill 9 hours in wellington

Last year we spent the Monday touristing in Wellington. We went to Te Papa (the colossal squid was a disappointment), walked along the waterfront, got the best ice cream in the country, had a tour of parliament then discovered a street fair. It was great. This year, I want to visit Cuba Street and the Botanic Gardens!

The Botanic Gardens with their glow worms, Rose Garden and the Cemetery (city end) are absolutely Magic at night. Beautiful in the day too, but my first introduction was at night. Maybe interested parties could meet for a walking tour at dusk on Friday and meander up from the Friday drinks meet up to the park.

Something to consider! I’m happy to play tour guide!

Unless we’ve got a LARP running Friday night.

Or maybe… LARP in the park?!
