Since we’ll be making stencils for fabric decoration at the PLC (at my place on the 12th of November) I thought it worthwhile we all know how to make a stencil.
Anda, a cute but mildly annoying craftpunk at Etsy (your local handcrafts market but on the interwebs (and maybe the best place in the world to do xmas shopping)) shows us how it’s done in this deliciously info-taining how-to Youtube video. Alternatively here’s an eHow tutorial that won’t make it look like you’re slacking off at work.
These are good for the part we’ll be doing at the PLC but if you want badass stenciled game-specific patches you’ll need to do a little bit of homework in choosing designs. But that’s not as daunting as it sounds either.
For computer-designed stuff, here’s a big collection of stencils that the creator is generously sharing. Here’s the stencil section on DaFont, my favourite font site.
The nice thing about computer-designing stencils is that you don’t have to be a crash-hot designer to achieve something cool. Send me what you’d like to use (even if it’s just a link to DaFont that includes your word in your chosen font example) and I’ll prep it for printing. You’ll need to send me these before the 11th so I can prep them and get them to Anna, who, being extremely helpful in general, will print them on to transparencies before the meeting.
If you want to be all technical and flashy, design multiple stencils to layer on top of each other like this baddass venus fly trap. I hope to make the GHOSTBUSTERS stencil like this, but most (“POLICE”, “SWAT”, “CREW”, “+ FIRST AID +” etc) will be fine as a single colour.
Any questions?
