Project Leader's Collaboratory Tuesday 11 December

Tuesday 11 December 6pm at my place:
21a Hargreaves Street, Freemans Bay. Take Gudgeon Street off College Hill and you’ll see City Auto, which I live on top of.

In the interests of improving inter-game collaboration, society direction and community awareness I’m hosting a meeting/celebration/gear workshop for project leaders at 6pm on Monday the 12th of October.

If you’re intending to run a game in the next six months or you have run an event in the last six months, this is for you. We’ll aim to schedule event dates, help each other out on hard questions, work out what the best stuff to produce is, and make some badass re-usable kit at the same time.

I want the room so jam-packed with larp-authorin’ talent that a single mass-murderer or freak-accident could end the New Zealand larp scene completely.

I’ve got some specific costume in mind for making. It’s fairly easy to make, machine-washable, easily stored and designed to swap between games. The costume is suitable for all events set post-1900. If you run an historical setting I’d still really like to have you there - let me know if there are any bribes that would entice you!

On the agenda for discussion will be how we can make big things happen with our shared player base, what we want/need from nzLARPS, when our events can happen, how we can make other people’s events look good and that kind of thing.

Can anyone let me know if this new date is bad? Kthx!

New date: Monday 12 November. Good to hear people start talking about this - “bring it up at the PLC” etc

this date is good for me, as for bribes to attend COFEEEE, but like thats a suprise with me

Unfortunately the committee unanimously crushed my request to lose society money on this, so bribes will come from my own pocket (which is pretty much empty right now). That said, I’d still like to put on a few snacks and if anyone else wants to buy everyone dinner, hey, I’ll eat it! And that said, nobody should need bribes to come to such an important meeting!

Please note, this is open for producers that intend to do larp stuff that has no connection to nzLARPS at all. This is not even an nzLARPS event, though we will be doing some stuff to benefit the society.

Good news!
My proposal for equipment has been given the go-ahead, so I’ll spill the beans on what we’ll be making. I want to the society to have eight tough, neutral coloured jumpsuits decorated with velcro, and a whole host of velcro patches to characterise them ad-hoc.

This kit would form a basic, versatile and reusable “uniform” with which to clothe a small army of (whatever you like). Any game set during or beyond the industrial revolution (late 1700s) will get a kick out of these high-impact full-body costumes!

The better news
At the PLC, we won’t be doing the laborious cutting-up and sewing together of big clumsy jumpsuits, we’ll be doing the fun part of making stencils and painting patches. Trust me, this is fun. After making my “Nibelungen” stencil and my “Shikadi” stencil I just wanted to brand them on everything I owned.

Does that mean we can get a velcro wall and do the jump-on-to-a-wall-covered-in-velcro-and-stick-to-it thing?

This

No, although this is very tempting and probably a better way to make money than anything else we do.

When I say “decorated” I mean there will be a few rectangular strips of velcro around the suit. Probably these will go:

  • On the top of each arm, facing out.
  • On the badge position, left side of each chest
  • On the quad position, top of right thigh
  • Back, high and center.

That’s five spots, and if they’re all the same (I suggest so!) then we’ll have 40 patches to make per uniform set. It sounds like heaps, and it is, but when we have stencils made and fabric cut it should only take a couple of minutes to paint each one. It’s not just the suits that are re-usable, the stencils can also be re-used at other gear workshops.

Bonus: send in five police and three medics with mix and match patching.

whats going on? i find it hard to understand what your hosting, craig. then again this probably dosn’t affect me im not hosting any games, but i do love making new gear for larps.

It’s a meeting for the people that are currently “putting on” the larps in Auckland. And we’re going to make some stuff while we’re at it.

See you all on Monday! We should have everything ready.

6pm tonight - but no dramas if you’re a little late.

sorry all but i won;t be able to make it tonight :frowning:

hope the planning etc goes well.

There’s been a few drop-outs and it’s not a PLC without everyone there.

We really need a big turn-out to achieve our goals here - and I don’t mean to make patches. Watch this space for a new date.

Darn, I was looking forward to meeting a few of ya

Should have gone to Ravenholme after our game :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey guys, how does 6pm Tuesday 11 December sound to you? 'Cos it sounds good to me.

I can make it.

I’ll be there.

If you’re still making badges, there are some free fonts with US-related icons including army badges on this page, scroll down to “4th of July”: iconian.com/

Is this still go? What time does it start? Should we eat beforehand or will we order pizza or something?

We’re on tonight, turn up from 6. Will be much more “meeting” than it will be “workshop” but I’ll have a calendar and paper and stuff and we’ll synthesise some plans.
