Great Chimera moments

And after reading those three epic posts I feel like making one of my own. sigh Effort… So I’ll keep mine much shorter

General socializing on Friday Night was good fun, saying hi to all the Wellingtonians who made the trip up as well as catching up with Alan and Sierra.
Moving onto the first LARP of the weekend, Bad Dreams, we got off to a slow start but then when Vanya started walking around in armour, his hair gold and skin silver, knew something was amiss.
Wandering in and before too long the first shots of the evening were fired, I forget who going down, but then getting up again unharmed. At this Greg points his guns at himself and saying something along the lines of we can’t be hurt here, pulls the trigger. And promptly gets a bullet lodged in his gut and starts bleeding out in great pain.
After the game finished, more great socializing, including with one of my Wellingtonian room mates, we finally called it a night around 2:30 IIRC.

Waking up and getting into my suit for Nexus, I borrowed Tiggers frog (Thanks again), and then started walking around with my rapier, taking great care to not stab people behind me while people kept wanting to play with my sword of incredible length. Time the game actually started had got the hang of walking around with the sword as well as drawing it quickly. Throughout the game I kept having to remind myself the Nefandi are bad and not quite trust worthy, for the alliance has only been around for a short while. During the game comments about my sword continued and then took a step for the worse when a demon wanders in and I rapidly attempt to draw my sword only to have it catch and spend about 20 seconds getting it out. Cue the jokes progressing to that. Added a great element of humour to the game and enabled lots of light hearted interactions with each other

Moving on to the afternoon for New Horizons, we were a small group taken in to see a collection of artwork by Fang Gogh. Walking around I recognised a large number of the artworks from The Art of Vampire The Masquerade, which I thought was a lovely touch. One of the images I found particularly cool came back to be specific to my character, the vampire tied to it becoming me at the plot twist (See here). And epicly we got to keep the pictures at the end, an opportunity I jumped at, not as though I exactly have room on my walls. Back to the story, part way though the game we were told riots were happening outside, and those of us by the windows could see the Brawl going on outside. Cue bad jokes about them being the rioters with bows and swords. Playing as an undercover NZSIS agent, I got a job offer from a Russian Mobster, namely the just mentioned Ivan Kalashnikov who I wasn’t there to investigate, my purpose being to protect a reporter. As the game progressed we got notes telling us feelings we were getting, some at disturbing times. Right when I first went over and spoke to Patricks character and shook his hand I was given a note saying I felt incredibly loyalty towards him. And then later the desire to kill the reporter I was protecting.

And then Refuge. It was cold whenever people insisted on having conversations outside.

Once that was done, the trip to the beach at 3am. Such a lovely night and what fun it was. Next year we need more people to come along and join in the dance party on the rocks.
And to go skin dipping. Don’t worry about clothes being stolen, we only made it half way off the beach road before we were laughing to hard to go any further.
Finally making it back to bed at about 4am the storm started and I watched the lightning through the window for a short while.

Sunday morning the guys in my room didn’t wake me. All good though as my morning game was Prayers on a Porcelain Altar. Grabbing some clothes and throwing it on, realize hadn’t taken the make-up from the night before. Added excellently to the look. Endlessly making bad jokes about each others suffering and explaining why things how they were, we discovered the night before we had done such great activities like selling the carpet on trademe, burning the curtains out on the lawn, and bobbing for cellphones in the toilet.

Finally onto the last game of the weekend, Requiem. All wearing lovely sperm suits the number of bad jokes we made before the game started relating to that. Also the fact that of the 9 players who were playing the patients, as far as I can tell, only one of us actually took the M&M pills, the rest of us palming them, hiding them under the tongue or other miscellaneous methods of not taking them.

@Micheal, You just looked sooooo adorable lying there asleep… I figured I’d have a shower and come wake you up, but alas, you’d already managed to get down and somewhat partially ready for the day ahead!! LOL

Yeah sorry mate. After 2 late nights (it was more like after 4 you guys came to bed on the Friday night, I crashed after 2) and the fact you didn’t even stir when we kept going in and out, I just figured you really needed some sleep.

Its Michael. ae.
'sall good, I didn’t miss the round. Was it really that late on Friday night, time flies when you are having fun (And are so drunk you repeatedly fail to stand up).
I never get enough sleep, combined with being a heavy sleeper means it takes alot to wake me. Was more confused by the fact something woke me so early on Saturday.

Ah yes, that is perhaps why my character did not start to remember anything from his previous life through the entire Requiem LARP :stuck_out_tongue: I liked the red ones. They made me feel safe.

Team Edward FTW!

XD

I have two favourite moments (among many fine ones). The first was in Betrothals. I was one of three sisters, the younger sister said something silly, and me and Second Sister (Ellen Couch)'s eyes just met, and we sighed a little, as if this dynamic had been going on for years.

The player that I absolutely loved to roleplay with was Ellen Couch, who is subtle, and good, and just… someone I developed a rapport with.[/quote]

Aww, shucks! You were fab to roleplay with too. Loved the sisterly rapport during, and emotion at the end of Betrothals (and the symmetry between that and Fleet Street in March), when all you wanted was for me to be happy. You were so much fun as the concerned older sister, telling me I mustn’t marry Vanya’s character, and laying into Mortimer Gray- “Have I thought of locking your door at night! What does he take me for?”.

The Professor in Super Sparkle was fabulous too…all those theories… I just wish we’d had more interactions in Refuge and Bitter Tears, because I always got happy when I saw you were in the same game as me.

As we’re giving our personal honourable mentions, I’ll add that I also really enjoyed roleplaying with Craig Neilson, who was great to play alongside in the games we were in together (this was a great relief in Vox, where he was one of the partners in my three-way Alien marriage), and Tetrajak- I learned I have a LOT more fun in games where I’m not having to avoid him all night. My favourite moment in Bitter Tears was when he and I agreed to turn Al Amarja upside down. It was just…cool.

Aww shucks, thank you ^.^ I’m only scary when I’m playing a nasty character intent on returning you to your slave hovel on my property :stuck_out_tongue: I had a lot of fun roleplaying with you too, Ellen, and I look forward to seeing you at future events!

I’d also like to mention how much fun I had with Robza, he was awesome and we got along so well! A future Monty Python game had been proposed by him, but he was unsure what to make it. I suggested something (keeping this a secret for now) and he got immensely excited and declared that we were writing said game together! I look forward to doing so

Diamond Geezers"I want to check everyones guns!"
Despite the small crappy room, this was an excellent locked room murder mystery. The clothes dryer did double-time as the safe and we had a body and clues and a long list of suspects. It was good fun to figure out who one of the murderers was early on and to secretly empty her gun of bullets before returning it.

Much Ado About Something“I want you to confess to being Shakesphere’s lover!”/"Is that a gerkin in your jerkin?"
Ahhh, playing Puck was soooo much fun. I think that I’m naturally a mischief and if I could have picked a role from the entire convention that felt like it was written for me, this would be it. I loved making people perform Shakesphere’s last play.

A Town Called Refuge"Do you know what kissing on the hand leads to?"
I enjoyed building the swing doors for this and watching people crash through them. The walls were made from recycled pallets with $10 of nails  I love recycling. The whole game was all fun really. I loved the effort people put into their costumes and felt a built guilty about my lack of effort. Many of the women especially looked very sexy. It was a struggle to not just stare and grin  Except Anna, who could have done with a bag over her head (“You’re a powerful ugly woman!”)

A Dead Man’s Chest"The Volcano god is angry!"
I played a native American shaman, responsible for communing with the volcano god. It was so cool to be able to get out and do a rain dance in the torrential downpour and hail. It was even better when we were standing on the volcano edge and we had thunder. You couldn’t have written it better if you’d tried

Jade Empire“I’m up to 27 so far…”/"Every loss is a lesson"
I crewed for this, playing two very enjoyable roles:

Hiro, a wandering samurai from the sword clan who had been sent into the world by his master “to win 100 consecutive duels”, at which point I could consider myself a master and begin to teach. I had been at this “quest” for 24 years. I enjoyed every encounter I had with the players as I politely requested a duel from them “to a single blow”. I enjoyed the very last duel the most, where Ryan finally defeated me (he believed himself immortal!)

The spirit of war who wandered through a spirit gate and started teaching kata to the bushi. Rob getting close enough to copying it. It was just an impromptue thing to fill in the time, with no real reason. Except it was fun…

And it looked awesome, especially with the both of you in near-unison.

well I only turned up for the flagship and the game I was running but…

Refuge-
Never having a moment to pursue my own objectives as every time I turned around it was “General, can I ask you …”

Being forced to protect my daughter from all of you ruffians (and not doing a very god job of it  )

Keeping just ahead of the rumour mill about both of the daughters so than whenever someone came up to confront me over their actions I already had the news so could deflect things or deal with things right then and there.

Feast of Crows-
Starting the game, having written it myself and this being the first LARP I have run just seeing the game start was a huge thrill, even tho I knew that there were some gaps in the game :frowning:

Seeing pretty much everyone struggling not to laugh at some of the elements of the game.

  1. Quest to the Forest of Darkness
Ah, my beloved Orcs, what would I have done without you? Our unscripted portrayal of really mentally challenged orcs was more fun than I have ever had at a larp. (Sorry Tigger and Matt, we remembered later that we were supposed to be mighty warriors and serious go-getters, but by then it was too late).
Please excuse probable misspelling of names.

The silence of night in the Forest of Darkness was broken by cries such as (imagine all speech at maximum volume):
Zobnak: "Hey, Zobnak hear a noise!"
Kreena: "What? Where"
Zobnak: "Shhhhh, dumb orc, you too loud, listen!"
Zumnak: "Zumnak not loud! Zumnak stealthy!"
Tolmak: "Tolmak stealthy too!"
Severus: (severus? really? apparently so) "Severus stealthy!"
Zobnak: "All orcs who are stealthy say Aye!"
All: “AAAAAAAAAAAYE!”

Conversation with the humans:
Humans: "Why are you carrying rocks?"
Orcs look puzzled, think for a moment: "Orcs like rocks!"
Humans: "What are you going to do with them?"
Orcs think harder: "Make gate!"
Humans: "What does the gate do?"
Orcs really dig deep, then shrug: “Not know! Make gate! Find out!”

Kreena finds Darkbriar, the human druid that is the father of her unborn child. She announces this proudly and celebrates with him. He says she is the third one today so it’s three times the celebration. They cheer some more, then Kreena goes to congratulate the other two mothers, but for some reason the human and the fae females don’t seem very happy. Oh well, who ever understands the paleskins anyway. Babies, yay!

Orcs are lost in the Forest, looking for rocks. Zobnak scratches his head and sits on a treestump.
"Hehehehehe. Look! Zobnak stumped!"
Orcs: fall about laughing at this classic piece of humour.

Oh, and we did make the gate, and a demon came out and said it was going to kill everyone but Orcs. Orcs cheered.

  1. Truth Justice and Spandex - another 3 hours of major fun and amusement
Thank you to all the kind folk who saw me in my Mord-Sith regalia and went “Oh, now I wish I was playing in that game!” You made my morning.
  • Attempting to steal the Flamingo away from Captain Strength. Lost out to Captain Italy, drat!
  • Setting up a threesome with Captain Italy and Miss Appear!
  • Encouraging Dr Terrible to ‘help’ with the reconstruction of Kate’s spaceship so that we could steal the plans and make our own and take over other worlds as well as earth.
  • Making the ultimate evil fall in love with me… temporarily at least.
  • Saving the world and all the awesome things in it that I haven’t stolen yet.
  • But my favourite had to be working with The Amazing Mr Amazing to expose The Legend as the minty-breathed pansy-ass I knew he was all along! HA! Now he’s going to do my PR, since that’s clearly his major strength.
  1. The Discarded
Oh, the grotesqueness and pathos! Fabulous. Being the lone voice (at the beginning) advocating staying on the ship and slowly swaying a number of the crew over to my plan for the future. I’ve never managed that kind of vision-mongering before. It was very cool. Thanks everyone!
Finding a certain prop and being damn determined no one else was getting their hands on it on my ship.
Watching Stephanie’s character agonize over which family to be with, her old blood earth family or her new ship family. Telling her we’d be back and she should go and see her daughter and grandchild.

  2. Refuge, see refuge thread

  3. Prayers on a Porcelain Altar
The morning after the best/worst party ever. The kind of party where bobbing for cellphones in the toilet seemed like a good idea. So did burning the curtains for a garden bonfire and selling the carpet on Ebay. The kind of party where you find your underwear pinned to the wall in the morning and wish you hadn’t worn a frilly pink thong, when you’re a bloke. The kind where you really wish someone would tell you what actually happened, but you’re kind of afraid to know.
Brilliant, the hangover impressions, the giggles and snarkiness, the improv was excellent.

  4. A Feast of Crows.
    Oh dear.
    Oh dear.
    Oh dear.

Lets just say I’ve never said the words “Big Cock” so many times and in so many embarrassing ways in my entire life.

Big thank yous to Craig and Walter for being willing to go with the obvious direction the photo shoot was going to go.

There was a Kraken. It was epic. And we shall never speak of it again.

I would say I was sorry except I think I will just start giggling again

Favourite moments - just a couple, because there were heaps!
Quest - hiding in the shrubbery listening to the orcs stealthy progress and Greybark the druid’s encounter with all 3 of his pregnant girlfriends at once (I couldn’t have timed it better if I tried) and then having Malcolm quickly realise he may have to defend his randy brother from pregnant angry girlfriends.
Spandex - "Why’a you shoota him in the face. You coulda just kicka him in the balls!"
Discarded - Listening from outside of the room - the depressed state of the chracters at the beginning as they entered and the sudden change in volume and energy as I rang and told them the liason would be there in 15 minutes instead of 8 hours. That was impressive. That and Jared’s communication: "No-one’s ever pleased to see us. pause Ever."
Dead mans chest - Derek standing at the top of the volcano and shouting at us that the gods were still angry and then the thunder rolled!
Feast of Crows - I will have nightmares for weeks of Rodney (Craig you brave, brave man) ‘accidently’ dropping his pants in front of me and putting them back on. Twice.
Great moments all throughout the weekend. What a great bunch of people.

Okay so no speaking of it, but when does the fashion shoot get published lol

I’m not in any way joking or exaggerating when I say I haven’t had the courage to look at them yet! They’re still on my camera. :open_mouth:

well when you do at least let the GM’s see plz plz plz plz

tho it was kinda freaky with that ghost in your camera… hmmmm

Hmmm… so much fun, so little space.

1/ Bad Dreams.
“YOU HAVEN’T GOT THE BALLS TO DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO!” Jason - it was awesome playing off you.

2/ Nexus
"My former apprentice is rather strong willed and more than a little stubborn. A Pity I couldn’t curb that." Erin - your mage was an interesting contrast to the adventurousness of al the others and excellent to work with.

3/ Much Ado About Something
Too much awesomeness. Much funage had… although watching Lady Macbeth start to swell in fury when Lord Macbeth professed love to Helena was awesome.

4/ Refuge
See refuge post.

Vox

  • Early on the players figured out there was something wrong with Gene’s character, and decided to quarantine him. I said they could put him in the sick bay and use the environment suits to interact with him, but they had other ideas. Next time I look, they’ve put Gene in the environment suit instead. It’s one of those rubber deep-sea-diving suits with a bubble top, and he has a I’m-going-to-be-stuck-in-this-thing-for-the-rest-of-the-game look of utter dejection on his face. I put one of those puppies on later in the game and immediately understood his misery. Hot, unbreathable, hard too see… they were nightmare.

  • The look of sheer bewilderment on people’s faces when the Ytyl started disappearing was also a classic.

Bethrothals and Betrayals

  • I loved the way Racheal played her character, the mother of three eligable daughters who was in desparate straits. The characterisation was pure Austin, it’s all in the little mannerisms and sayings.

Much Ado About Something

  • I failed badly as the investigator monk, but I had the general idea about right and the wordplay was a lot of fun. Derek’s “I was Shakespeare’s lover” moment was very funny.

A Town Called Refuge

  • Funny interactions with the doctor and the undertaker: Them: “A lot of bodies are going missing.” Me: “How?” Them: “We think someone’s eating them.” Me: “WHAT?”
  • Loved the moment right at the end when I got one of the ladies of the night a job as a schoolteacher’s assistant. It took me a long time to realise that instead of avoiding the seedy parts of the saloon because I was a priest, they were the parts that actually needed me most. I had to stop being judgemental and start getting my hands dirty.
  • And then I blew up.

A Dead Man’s Chest

  • Loved the beach and the crazy weather. Being mad is really very relaxing to play, you can get away with anything.
  • When I regained my sanity, I really enjoyed inventing a new objective of trying to merge the ships back together under one captain, which I succeeded at, and even got my own ship! Sometimes the best goals are the ones that you just pull out of your arse.

Jade Empire

  • Loved the stilted polite conversations, the strain of staying honorable while trying to achieve objectives, the backstory of the spirit gate, Derek’s bushi and war spirit dueling and training, and Erin’s characterisation of the dragon. Winning the battle of riddle-creation was also fun, even if I only won on a technicality.

Wow. I sat down to do a brief recount of Chimera for the three people who read my LiveJournal. I ended up writing 3500 words. :open_mouth: I think it just hit me how much I truly enjoyed Chimera.
