Games for Chimera 2011

Well pending a message to Walter (for suggesting Asterix initially), I will run an Asterix larp. I think we could go to 30…

More importantly, who wants to make a larp-safe Menhir?

Possibly the characters the Gauls encounter could have a female lean. Like “Asterix and the Amazons” or something, although that’s probably way out of the period.

Just thinking about this makes me happy.

Also- Idiot, are you volunteering to play Obelix?

And a larp safe menhir was precisely what I was thinking…

“Like”

I have some ideas for a space larp, a mystery with possible horror elements and a race against the clock.

Or Pirates racing each other. Still nutting ideas.

What about a Discworld larp? They ran one in Dunedin a while ago, before I got here. I’ll track it down and see if it’s suitable for Chimera (and if it isn’t, I’ll make it so!)

I’ll be more then happy to help adapt it and/or help run it…

I don’t have an extensive knowledge of Asterix, but “out of period” doesn’t seem like it should be too much of a problem

Going to be honest here, Historical Accuracy isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when someone says Asterix. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow thats going far further than I imagined. Staying true to the setting of the books is far more important than how accurate we all are historically. Asterix borders on the fantastical, so theres a certain amount of wiggle-room in terms of the game plot and its characters.

Of course my mind has already been working on where we can build the roman fort (at the tower) and where to put a Gaul village… we’ve got the norse/pirates coming from the beach… the amazons from deep in the forest… so many ideas and I haven’t even hit the books yet…

You know, I’ve just been looking through lists of Asterix characters and there are a few female villagers.

Mr & Mrs Fulliautomatix

Vitalstatistix and Impedimenta

Unhygenix and Bacteria

Mr & Mrs Geriatrix

And a Gaul, but not a villager:

Panacea

Such a trip down memory lane looking at this stuff.

Good stuff Ryan. The female roles are a little archaic in their place in the books. They’re essentially the wives or the pretty girls… the challenge would be making them a bit more relevant. After all we can’t just have the men kicking all the Roman butts.

Sooo I also kind of get the idea you want to either be a part of this game Ryan or help write and run it… drop me a line (PM) with your thoughts as I am happy to have a co-conspirator in this.

Well… I think that I, like others have the urge to get involved but I’m keeping my powder dry for now.

I’m tossing up between writing a game for Chimera 2011 that resembles Tim Burton’s gothic musicals, or one set in Robert E Howard’s Hyborian Age (the world of Conan the Barbarian). I definitely want to write a scenario, and those two games are at the top of my list for now.

I’d like to help somehow, but I doubt I could write two games. One is hard enough, as I found out with The Black Hart of Camelot.

We’re clearly going to have to add LARP-safe rolling pin to the list…

I think a few ass-kicking village women would be cool. I seem to recall that the female villagers were just as tough as the men to deal with, when they wanted to be.

We’ve had a couple come through. They’re easy to make, and awesome.

Oh crap. I can see my firm resolution of “No! In 2011, I definitely must keep myself free in every single round. I definitely must not run any games, and I CERTAINLY must not play no matter how good the game looks” falling by the wayside as I push and shove players out of my way for a spot at that :open_mouth:

They were tough but they were often stereotyped as overbearing naggy wives (Impedimentia and Bacteria) etc. but who were just as ferocious as their men (when threatened).

But they were often background characters. And for a larp, that simply will not do. I’ll add a warriors touch to them at the very least…

Edit: I agree Ryan, 1 larp to write and run is more than enough.

Or perhaps two half larps?

If I assist you with Asterix and the Mighty Whatever and write half the characters, and you assist me with Swords of Hyboria and write half the characters, that could work. A burden shared is a burdened (at least) halved, and all that.

I reckon you’d enjoy reading the original Conan stories to get familiar with the Hyborea setting. Robert E Howard has some serious dark sword and sorcery heroic writing mojo.

As an added bonus, that means I wouldn’t be writing Witchlight Lullabies for another year, which would relieve Anna of the temptation to play it.
