Forgotten Gods

I’ve sent out an initial contact email to all the people alloted to play Forgotten Gods, and heard back from most people about play preferences.

I haven’t heard back from Jack Benson-Rea, Yuli Heled, Juliet Thomborson, Tara Dalefield, or Shaun Roberts. If you’re one of these people and haven’t received my email, please let me know here and we can figure out whether I’ve used the wrong email address or something. If you’re one of these people and you have received my email, please respond with some sort of indication even if it’s just “I don’t mind”, that way I can get everyone cast and people who like to do costuming early can get cracking. If you know that one of these people is away and won’t have email access, that’d be nice to know too.

Apologies if you put your preference in the game selection form and I’m asking for it again, that info from the form hasn’t made it out to most GMs yet as Anna is drowning in logistics due to the success of her creation.

No joke :open_mouth:

Anyone have suggestions on “Shemit Solider” costuming?

The stories always describe them as having blue/black beards and conical helmets.

The Sons of Shem are middle-eastern-inspired, maybe like a late Mesopotamian culture with steel. In the Conan stories the Shemites are described as “blue bearded”, and their elite Asshuri warrior clan are said to wear scale armour and be skilled with bows.

Naturally, you can costume them however you’d like. It would be quite cool if the three soldiers matched somewhat, but that may be unrealistic unless you work on costumes together or we use costumes from the NZLARPS gear pool.

By comparison, Argos is more like late ancient Greece or Rome with steel, blended somewhat with medieval Europe. I was considering using the brown leather armour with red capes from the gear pool for them, and the round shields with eagles - if they’re still usable.

Matt’s pictures are very nice.

I guess having a Conan MMORPG out there means players can use their designs as a cheat sheet for costumes ideas, if you like, though I don’t imagine most players would go to that amount of detail for this.

EDIT: Also Matt’s right that it’s “blue-black beards”, not blue. Although whatever colour, beards are quite a hard ask to costume, and his soldier pic looks fine without that detail.

This. Man that’d be cool.

The leather armour is still there but the capes are long gone. The shields are also still there but eagleless.

I’d suggest using shemaghs give both uniform and middle eastern.

I’m running a little late getting the character sheets out.

Hope to have them to players in the next day or so.

Are crew getting character sheets? Do we need to provide our own costumes?

Thanks

Nikki

Yes, crew will get character sheets and a crew guide with behind-the-scenes info. I’m hoping to have these out by August 8th. In the meantime you’ll get the player guide in the next couple of days when the players do, which will have the rules and overall setting.

There is no requirement for crew to provide costumes, we will use the NZLARPS gear and some stuff I’m making to costume crew.

However if any crew want a put together a special costume for yourselves, I’m happy to provide an advance idea of what you’re playing as crew so you can have a crack at costuming. If so, drop me an email.

EDIT: same goes for any crew who would like to help with general costumes and props, drop me an email. As usual my ambitions exceed my spare time, so help is always welcome. Or players who want to help outfit the soldiers in matching stuff - things like Matt’s Shemite headwear idea above are great, but they’re low on my list of things to make myself.

I’ve sent out the 16 player character sheets.

The Player Guide is available for crew and anyone else to view here (1.8MB PDF).

Note that there are one or two commercial images (like the map) in the player guide and some character sheets that I’ll be replacing with my own work or public domain images before I publish the game, not wanting to step on any copyrights but didn’t have time to get everything kosher for the Chimera run.

Right. Now to psych myself up so I can tread the jewelled thrones of the world beneath my sandaled feet.

I recommend contemplation of some Frank Frazetta artwork.

That gets the treading right. But don’t these people get cold?

I think that’s what the fire is for

Anyone up there got a horned helmet I can borrow?
