Forgotten Gods

Just don’t go asking Norse reenactors for horned helmets. Total hornet’s nest.

I know. I’d love one with “sunglasses”, actually, but horns seems more Howardian.

I’ve sent out the crew guides and some NPC character briefings.

I’m feeling a bit bad about the large amount of text I’m sending out for a three-hour convention game, but I find one of my greatest frustrations in larp is not knowing enough about the setting as a player or crew to really improvise in it. You can always skim if it’s too much text, but for people who like plenty of background detail it’s there. In my defence, many of Robert E. Howard’s backstories are equally dense.

I think I’ve emailed everyone now, so if anyone hasn’t heard from me yet about Forgotten Gods, please let me know.

If anyone else playing a Shemite soldier is reading this, i’d be keen on hearing what you are doing for costume.
PM or post here.

Else I’ll be the odd one out knowing my luck :stuck_out_tongue:

Jackie sent me a cool photo of a middle-eastern looking helmet with a spike on top she made from a $10 helm from a discount store (for Abi Sar I gather). If the Shemite soldier players wanted to make similar helmets for yourselves that could be an option.

It is indeed Abi Sar’s Helmet of awesome

Here’s the helm I made for Anthony out of the one I got at the $2 shop on Victoria St (near Whitcoll’s). It does require some modification as it has big hurking viking horns, which leave big gaping holes if removed. I based this of the picture that was posted earlier in this thread.

Afraid I can’t make another one like this as a) this was Anthony’s b-day pressie and b) I need to make my own costume stuff now, but this gives you an idea of what can be done with that base!

(Chris, I could make an exception for you as you’re in Welly - but I’d just be getting the helm for you and doing the most basic of mods to it, nothing flash (no fabric, no hangy-down bit). Lemme know if you’re keen.

Edit: sorry that’s so wide, I dunno why it is. Also, Luke’s got his hair in a poytail which the helm is sort of “stuck” on, so it’s sitting higher up on his head than it normally does.

I’ve been using one email thread in Gmail for all my correspondence for the game.

It just reached 100 emails, and it seems to have topped out. Who knew there was a limit?

Yep, apparently that’s what Gmail does with it. Except that my 101st post seems be semi-lost in limbo. I can see it in my sent emails, but it doesn’t appear in the original or the split thread. Seems like a bug, but no biggie.

I just got an awesome orange wig for this game. Hopefully it’ll fit under the helmet. Now I’m wondering whether to plait part of it, or have a long (orange) haired barbarian.

A messy mixture of a couple of braids and some loose hair would be my guess.

Rarr!

Clothes, who needs them? It’s only snow!

I’m fielding some questions about equipment.

For players, I’m mostly hoping that you will be bringing your own weapons/armour/shields/costumes/props. If you don’t have something, like a foam weapon, that you need for your character then it would be best to speak up here. There will be some stuff to lend out, but it would help to know how many people need it. On that note, if anyone is able to bring extra weapons to lend others, that would be greatly appreciated.

For the soldier players, I will be trying to source matching armour (or soldier costume) and shields from the NZLARPS gear. If you prefer to do your own costume/armour/shields that’s fine too. I’m assuming you are sorting out your own weapons, but the same principle applies as with the other players - if we have spare we will lend them, but best to speak up in advance.

For crew, if you have some weapons/costumes/other equipment that you think will suit NPC roles you may be playing, including the generic roles described in the crew guide, then it would be great if you could bring them. Again, if you can bring extras for new people that would be a great help too. We will be borrowing whatever we can from the NZLARPS gear but personal gear is almost always nicer. If you don’t have anything to bring that’s okay too, it would be nice if you did but it isn’t required. For crew, it’s best if you can wear plain unlogoed clothing in neutral colours to wear under your costumes.

For everyone, this is a roaming adventure that will involve some running and fighting on uneven surfaces, so you will want suitable footwear. If your shoes or boots can look somewhat the part that’s ideal (dark colours are usually best), but if white sneakers are the only stable footwear you have then so be it, we don’t want you rolling an ankle.

There will be a brief safety talk on the day. The main hazards in a game like this are tripping and running into trees.

Cheers,

Ryan

This just adds to my anticipation for this game! Not every game can make this claim.

I’d very much appreciate it if I could borrow a sword for this.

Alright. Here’s my attempt at the Shemite Soldier helmet:

Are the horns on those things solid or hollow? If the latter, any chance of getting someone’s offcuts?

(I am thinking they could be turned into faux-hunting horns)

I will be bringing armour, shields and sum weapons to FG. if you need sumthimg, dont stress, we will sort it out.

The horns are hollow. Sorry, I chucked mine out at work so I don’t have them any more :frowning:

Snap! I had exactly the same helmet for my backup character for Wolfgang’s, but my turban was gold.
