Flagship LARP 2011?

Too early?

Anyone who’s organised a LARP knows there is no such thing…

I am officially throwing my hat into the ring to run the 2011 Chimera Flagship LARP, pending NZLARPS approval of course aswell as the popular nod.

My current theme is Space Opera…

Like/Dislike? Thoughts please people.

Space opera sounds fantastic.

I suggest having a big team and very strict deadlines. You really do have to start early with the Flagship, there is a lot of work to do. Whips must be cracked, a dominatrix on the team would probably be highly effective…

Ah, this thread’s popped already  Fantastic. I’ll just get in there with my Official Guidelines for people to keep in mind when thinking about this topic, and on what basis I’ll chose the team for the job:

People considering writing the Next Big Chimera Larp need to keep the following things in mind:

 • We will require 100 characters, of roughly 50/50 gender split
 • The writing team will probably need to consist of no less than seven people.
 • The writing team will also have partial responsibility towards the setting dressing of the event.
 • The writing team will need to have the game finished by August 1st 201`.
 • The writing team will need to work closely with the Chimera organisational team, more so than the GMs for the other games, as the Big Larp is a pivotal part of the convention.
 • The game needs to be mainstream in tone. While Chimera is R16 in general, the content needs to be suitable for as wide a variety of people as possble.
 • You will need to have excellent, prompt and friendly communication with players regarding their queries.
 • You will need to remember that quality needs to be high because this is the larp that we market the convention on, this is the larp that people will be trying for the first time, this is the centrepiece of the event. This is a big responsibility, with a fair amount of pressure. Also, I’m an absolute tyrant. Just warning you

I hope these guidelines are not too off putting, but I thought it would be helpful at this stage to clarify exactly what we expect from people who put their hand up. Go nuts with the ideas and discussion, guys, but for those seriously considering it, this here is what it entails.

Forget it. I’m out.

Just kidding… Anyone know a good Dom?

I figure it’s best if I destroy people’s illusions now, rather than 6 months into the project  Seriously though, I think a lot of people have the ability to do it, so long as they know what they’re getting into

So start kicking around those ideas then. Joel puts forward space opera. What does everyone else think?

Space Opera sounds really interesting.

Space opera has my vote, and I’d be keen to help with the writing as I love sci-fi and related sub-genres!

“This is Jimmy.”

This is not Warcraft in space!

Face to Face

4th August, 2388: 4 Vesta
The day we make Contact

After two centuries of communication and data exchange, humanity will today meet survivors of the first life-supporting ship to reach another star system. The Astiiv race will land on the asteroid 4 Vesta and leave cryostasis to meet their human neighbours.

And for what better reason to travel than a marriage!?

Five Human->Astiiv weddings will take place today as a symbol of intergalactic harmony. The Astiiv travelers are made up of five sets of family and friends, each with their candidate meeting their human lover for the first time. Although the voyage has taken 236 earth years, the travelers have only experienced an hour of flight-time. Before they left, each candidate made an intricate profile and a set of requirements for their partner then sent that to Earth. All eyes are on the five new couples to show an example of interspecies peace to the galaxy.

From Earth, the five human partners have brought their own families and friends with them for the meeting and ceremony on 4 Vesta. Although the intergalactic-order brides have been well profiled, the space voyage has been longer than a human life, so this will be the first time any partnership meets face to face!

Media crews, children and political delegations are also present for this high-profile and significant event.

Will the resource-starved humans impress their successful galactic counterparts?
Will the expertly-chosen couples fall in love at first sight?
Will competing families gain political influence with this powerful new race?
Or is there some unforseen villainy at play?

What about Fae? I’m looking at fae for a Bad Dreams game and it occurred to me that that is a near endless resource to use for a Flagship game. It would be a very different genre too, highly fantastical or dark.

Edit: Scratch that, that’s the Battlecry theme

Personally i don’t like the idea of sci fi as it is so rarely done well in larp and if it’s done badly, it’s reaaaaaaaaaaly bad.
I might throw my hat in… (Anna has no idea of this)
My vote would be for pirates. I think you could have no end of epic fun.
arrrrrrrrrrrrr me heartys who’s on board to shiver me timbers?

Fun times in August 2011 in the Brunton-Klein household :open_mouth:

I like the idea of a Roman Empire larp. Togas, murder, politics

Roman sounds like it would be very much fun. Although so do Sci-Fi and Pirates. Hmm…

Actually, if you take another step back and into Greek times then you have both politics and huge new philosophies coming into birth.

To allay peoples fears of Sci-Fi done poorly…

i already have a plan for a mass teleport…

It’ll take about 5 seconds…

No no… seriously I do.

Greek or Roman sounds good, although the Sci-Fi Human / Dwarf marriage thing sounded pretty cool,

Convention Larp. Characters will be attendees, cosplayers, super-fanboys, washed up actors under contract to appear in costume, comic book writers getting stalked by crazy fans, etc.

Not volunteering, just throwing an idea into the forum.
