Flagship Chimera 2010 - A Town Called Refuge

A Town Called Refuge
Written by Ivan Essin, Prema Cottingham, Hamish Meads, Cameron Burns, Joel Williams and Daphne Cohen.

The War
The American Civil War has just reached the end of its bloody conflict, but tensions are still high between the victorious North and the defeated South, and disorder rules the town known as Refuge. Once a well known safe haven for anyone on the run from the law but with California’s integration into America, Refuge and its outlaw inhabitants find themselves in territory that is no longer neutral.

The Law
Now the lawbringers have moved in, trying to impose order to a town built on chaos, and the gangs that rule the town are bristling at the bit to protect what’s theirs from the law, and from the upstart new gang that’s muscling in. The Sheriff and his brothers are the toughest cowboy family around and they ain’t no pushovers.

The Goldrush
Gold has put this tiny town on the map, the newly discovered wealth in the hills has drawn the attention of the railroad companies and investors with an intention to clean up the town for the gold diggers, and sell her to the highest bidder.

The Women
The women of Refuge don’t take kindly to all this upheaval, have banded together and picked up their guns, and looks like the saloon ain’t the only place for women these days. Some still cling to the protection of the old gangs though, change won’t be all that easy for the Banditas.

The Showdown
The Saloon, owned by the founding outlaws of Refuge, is hosting this year’s 4th of July celebrations. An army General is here especially for the celebration, said to be hunting the local tribe Injin raiders. This is the event where the bets are, things are going to come to a showdown.

A Town Called Refuge is a straight up classic western game packed with unique characters based on old favourites for 85 people. Gunslingers, sassy saloon girls, investors, pioneers, crims, lawbringers, cowboys and Indians, a town called Refuge’s standoff will be coming to a charged high noon showdown at Chimera 2010.

Sounds like a bloodbath waiting to happen

Have the wonderful GMs come up with a cool and interesting way to do cowboy combat???

Sounds Awesome. I cant wait:D Oh Chimera, why are you so far away…

Yup, we are redesigning the Kick Ass system to work in this setting. This game is being designed for lots of havoc, so our rules will match this. We’ll release more later, we want to have it hammered out before making it public.

I already know the character (or type) that I want to play.

Sounds like much awesome. I’m all for playing the barkeep…

And I’ll be the slutty barmaid!

Well that’s sorted. When do we start?

When we get our Character sheets I s’pose! Hope they have good ones!!!

Lol. They’d better be, or I’m leading the drunken riot and causing chaos for everyone…

See the Knightshade boards to get that joke…

Important note: Leading a drunken riot and causing chaos for everyone will lead to some very happy GM’s, we have a few characters in mind for the likes of you.

Really? Lol. This sounds like excessive shades of awesome!!!

in a singsong voice

I loooooove eeeet!!! >.<

Can’t wait Vanya!

Awesome, looking forward to a big larp in a cool straight-up genre.

This sounds like all kinds of win. Can’t wait to see a character list!

Also it’s amusing to think I’ll be leaving Sacramento, to fly all the way to New Zealand, to play in a game that’s set pretty much right here.

Goes to find cowboy hat… brushes off dust… checked shirt… check… blue jeans… check… poncho… check… 6 shooter… must obtain…

Ok put me down. Can’t wait to see roles.

Wow. I watched the Assassination of Jesse James yesterday, and was just thinking how much I wanted to play a western LARP. Can’t wait!

On a related note…talked to a guy that knows a guy…

GUNS, GUNS, GUNS. Peow-Peow!!!

I have organised with an NZ importer of DENIX replica firearms a nice little deal for the society. The realy nice guys they are, If we make a single group order through them it will save them on shipping and handling and they have agree’d to either:

A) Give a discount to the order allowing the society to keep the difference to go back into LARPs.
B) Give the society some product for the gear library.

The link is here HERE. If your thinking about grabing a Denix Replica for this (or other larps), Send a PM my way and you can help out the society. You have time to think it over and save up as the order will be placed close to the date of chimera.

N.B. Offer avalible to Residents of Auckland and Those attending Chimera (or other LARP round that time) due to the fact they will be sent up here and distributed to the orderers by us.

Great find Cameron. Their props like Sherrif’s badges are pretty cool too.

There are some larpers who travel back and forth from Auckland to Wellington, so it wouldn’t take that long to get stuff down there.

Fair call…offer avalible to those that can organise pick up too

Oh and the stuff thats out of stock he mentioned he could probably get in given enough notice.
