Firearms

Sorry tried to post in the other thread, but was unable… This stuff can be retro fitted to existing guns. They also have “med kits” that increase hit points and grenades

steradiantech.com/products/index.html

All Steradian guns include these advanced features:
• Completely eye-safe!
• 11 adjustable settings (see below)
• Digital readout for all gun functions
• Sophisticated microcontroller-based design
• No self-inflicted hits
• 14 high quality sound and light effects
• High flex interconnect cable between gun and Sunband
• Durable shock-mounted lens within anodized aluminum assembly
• Can also be used indoors (with lens reducer)

Adjustable settings:
• Firing rate
• Firing burst size
• Ammo per clip
• Number of clips
• Clip load time
• Damage per shot (damage or healing)
• Hit points
• Hit cycle time
• Team number
• Player number
• Stun Delay

we could have a lot of fun with this get up :smiling_imp:

I had a look, but couldn’t see any prices, or am I just looking in the wrong places?

They don’t have their prices listed

cool

the base model looks really good, with four pitcanny rails we can customise them till the cows come home and i know where we can get all of the add ons.

the only problem i can forsee is that when they are tricked out fully, they do bear a striking resemblance to the real thing, so caution would be in order.

keeping recent armed robbery attempts in mind the cops will be quite twitchy for a while.

No, but they do say something like “Get a full gun setup for $399”.

Running a business using the kit would be the best option for funding the circa NZD30K you’d need to kit up 30-odd people. My guess is that if you wanted to have a weekend business, this would be way more popular than paintball.

The best thing is they go 570’ in full sunlight!

It might be something that the society could try to acquire a set of over a number of games, like we have with walkie-talkies.

Does anyone out there have the cash and interest to front up for a set of these, and have the society buy them back in a rent-to-buy scheme?

I have the price list as a PDF. PM me if you want me to email it to you.

Probably best not to organise games inside banks then. :unamused:

Or alternatively, a bunch of people with a bit of spare cash could buy one gun each. It’s US dollars, which is great for exchange rates right now.

The society could rent-to-buy off those that wanted to part with them.

Ouch, $500 for the set above, plus $1000 for the program to customize the hardware! :open_mouth:

That’s the part that worries me - so presumably the communication between the software and the parts is a trade secret - I’m not comfortable with that because it means we couldn’t get our own stuff running outside of what the software allows.

The website says that the software allows you to customise the following settings:
• Firing rate
• Firing burst size
• Ammo per clip
• Number of clips
• Clip load time
• Damage per shot (damage or healing)
• Hit points
• Hit cycle time
• Team number
• Player number
• Stun Delay

That seems pretty flexible to me. What else would you want to change?

The whole platform, when we find a cheaper one we “should have gone with all along”. If the operation of the software is secret then we would be tied to one vendor forever. That’s like if you couldn’t hit Paddywhack armour without Paddywhack weapons. We couldn’t play with other clubs that had chosen different systems either. When we’re buying hardware we should only have to worry about hardware.

Some examples of settings not below:

Poison/lasting effects
Randomisation
Use as “bombs” that hurt everything in radius
GM monitoring
Automatic healing over time
Accuracy of beam
Stuff that creative people will come up with that I haven’t yet.

I’m a bit suspicious that the customisation software is not only an extra, but actually costs more than the the hardware itself…

Also, having a cost of $500 per weapon is pricy, when you consider that Stargate (eg) would need at least half a dozen of these, so a $3000 outlay. In a couple of years of saving we might manage this at a pinch.

Maybe this is something that we should try to apply for a grant for? We’re already applying for a trailer, but maybe this would be a good one to attempt from a different source or the subsequent year?

Sure, having a software package that allows you to configure a custom chipset on custom hardware will tie you into this hardware. That is a negative aspect of this solution.

On the up-side, this system actually exists (wow!) It isn’t just a pipe dream where we sit around saying “Oh, like wow man, wouldn’t it be cool if we built this wicked laser gun system … inhale cough cough … that like did everything toke and cost next to nothing … and, like, was reliable maaan. l33t. All your bases are belong to us!”

The system already exists and it is only several thousands of dollars and one week shipping away.

Dreams may be free, but reality often isn’t.

I have added links to the quote above.

So true, its alwasy a frustration that so often reality interferes with a good dream objective.

David - my post above is riddled with links to that dream being a current, existing reality.

Build it yourself - fragtag.com.au/breakdown.htm
Lots of features - fragtag.com.au/features.htm
Can be done cheaply - lasertagparts.com/order.htm
Is well documented - lasertagparts.com/mtformat.htm
And works outside - youtube.com/watch?v=Yp7XNCjeFWo

And the system is open-source.
