I’m planning to run a published LARP based on the President of the USA and his closest advisors making decisions in an emergency situation. It’d be a one-evening event, I think it can take up to around 12 players.

Who’d be up for suiting up and debating high-level politic? No rules, just force of personality. There are a series of short scenarios on a timer, and at the end of each one a decision must be made and you find out what effect it has.

Note that this game is available on the web, so if you’re interested in played I advise against reading it because it contains spoilers.

Hey, I’d be up for that! Sounds like a great idea.

Roughly what level of political knowledge is required? It’s obvious that a decent amount is needed, but I’m wondering how intimately you have to know about American government policy and such.

Do you have a date/time/place?

I was thinking I’d just run it when we have a gap. November is looking kinda empty. The preparation required is minimal, it’s all out of the box.

It’s the kind of thing you could play in one evening, even after work. It comes with five scenarios, each of which takes 1 to 2 hours. You can play as few or many scenarios as you like at a sitting.

I was thinking of running it in a boardroom at my office, on Queen St in town (down near Vulcan Lane). Have to run that past my boss but I don’t think it’d be a problem.

Not terribly much knowledge, I reckon. But you’d have to be interested in politics to find it interesting and have something to contribute.

You don’t need to know about their political structure, because the game simplifies it down to just the Cabinet making an executive decision. No worries about the Senate and all the milarky as far as I can tell. So basically, it’s an emergency meeting of the people who get to lean on the President until he/she makes a decision.

Everyone plays a character with a vested interest in a certain agenda, and many of the agendas are common knowledge. For example the Secretary of Defense is pro military, whereas the Secretary of treasury is more interested in keeping the budget balanced. The interest of the game is in seeing people sparring those agendas off against each other and trying to hustle support from other members of the cabinet.

There are 11 player slots. I’ll be taking one of them. I haven’t read the scenarios, just the rules. The scenarios are written as verbal briefings that the President (who is just one of the players) reads out during the game.

I would be keen, and possibly Julianne as well.

Neato.

When would suit people?

Hmm… interesting. Now that I read the game introduction again, I see that it suggests it’s for up to 6 players. But then it defines 11 cabinet roles.

Still, from my reading of it I’m sure you can play with more people, it’s just that each person will have to fight a bit mroe to get heard.

This means that we can happily run it with any number from 6 to 11, I reckon.

If we find that we’ve got too many people, we can actually split the group and run different instances of the same scenario simultaineously in different boardrooms - we have three.

Oh. Also, the game is written by Greg Stolze. He’s worked on the tabletop games Unknown Armies, Feng Shui, Over the Edge, Godlike, Usagi Yojimbo, the new Gamma World, and the New World of Darkness games. He’s a fairly big name in RPG game design.

A weekday evening would be best for me. Say a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday night.

If it’s after November 12th, I’d be interested in playing.

It seems in some ways similiar to the Model United Nations events I did last year. The whole high powered political roleplaying aspect, anyway.

Is that date related to exams?

Yep. It’s last day of uni exams and I ended up with one on it.

But don’t worry about it too much, if an earlier date suits more people better, I’ll just pass.

I’d prefer to do it after exams if possible.

How does Wednesday 16th of November, starting around 6:00 pm suit people?

16th is doable for me, but there could be better. Like the 17th.

Okay, I’ve added a poll. Let me know when suits best.

This game will be on Wednesday 16 November, in a boardroom at my office.

I’ll be running the game as a project of the Live Action Roleplaying Society, assuming that’s okay with them.

Have you ever found yourself thinking, “I could do better than those fat cats in Washington?” With this game, you have the chance to prove it.

Executive Decision is played in real time. Each game lasts exactly one or two hours, depending on which scenario you’re playing. When your time is up, the President must decide how the U.S. is reacting to a crisis.

To make his decision, of course, the Chief Executive needs input from his loyal staff (that is, the other players). They, in turn, have goals of their own – goals that place them in conflict with each other.

Can you figure out how best to fulfill your agenda? Can you persuade the President to follow your advice? If so, you can gain enough political clout to win the game.

I’m so there.

Cool. I forgot to say, email me on ryan@mordavia.com or PM me on this forum if you’re keen to play. Or call on 918-6132.
