Chimera 2011 - Flagship

It really is great, it was absolutely invaluable to us writing Refuge earlier this year and Florent was incredibly helpful when I was having a problem with it.
Seeing that it’s free and volunteer-run/created, I really htink we should support it. A few other people have used it as well. Maybe NZlarps could make a donation?

The New Horizon STs used it for both Our Little Secret and Fang Gogh special event games. It is a very useful tool and I would highly recommend it. It is easy to use and and makes the process of Larp writing easier. I’ll be sure to use it in the future.

So I’d like to say a big thank you to Florent for providing such an awesome website. I think doing something to support it would be a good idea.

Thanks! FYI in January I’ll detail in the donation page the costs I have to run Larpwriter and the amount of donations I’ve received so far, so it might help to figure an amount for a donation.

There’s no comfortable way to say this, but I’m posting this to let you all know that I’ve left the flagship 2011 team. I should still hopefully get a chance to rerun The Ch’akta Peace Accord at Chimera, if all goes well.

Sorry to have you leave the writing team, hope that you’ll still be up for playing the finished product.

Hi, I’ve just published it: http://blog.larpwriter.com/2011/02/donations-in-2010.html

Who is your web hosting with? It’s kinda pricey.

GoDaddy.com does web hosting with databases for around US$50 a year.

Hi Ryan,

I use Linode, for a VPS with root access it’s the best good value for money I found, along with good support and backup plan. The first hosting of GoDaddy that could be used for Larpwriter are the Virtual Dedicated Servers plans, but they are more expensive.

Okay. I’m not sure why you need that stuff, but if you do then that’s a fair explanation.

Flagship Team Needs Two Writers Urgently

Due to unforeseen life events, Joel has regretably had to pull out of the team writing this year’s big space opera flagship. This leaves the team consisting of Malu and Hannah, with some assistance from Daphne. The project is in dire need of two extra writers. If you are interested and willing to put in the effort to make this project a reality, then please contact myself or Malu or Hannah directly to volunteer.

Please pass word along to anyone you think might be interested.

As an update of where we’re at, we have the character concepts of 80+ characters and the worlds which they come from. (This is a Space Opera, in that there are a dozen or so different planets that various groups come from.) So there are basic bones for new writers to work with, and also scope for their new character & world ideas.
I am having an emphasis on getting characters written at this stage, and hopefully mostly sorted out by June. So I expect about month of committed writing, from now. If this gets done, it needn’t drag over everyone’s heads all the way through to August.
We are using Larpwriter, so writers do not need to based in Auckland. I prefer email as communication within the team. And skype meetings are good.
Due to the large number of characters and their grouping effect, we may be able to compromise and just send out a group of characters to writers, if they still want to play in the game in a character in another group/plotline. In this case I will send you word files, rather than giving you access to Larpwriter to remove temptation from you.
This is the first larp Malu and I have ever written a larp, and some-one more experienced, along with Daphne, to help us would be much appreciated.
We have our next scheduled meeting for this saturday afternoon - 30th April, at my place in Westmere. It will wrap up before the last New Horizons game which I will be attending, so can give a lift to anyone.

What time exactly will this meet start roughly? Just so I can tell Mila and Joe (and feel like I’m doing my job xD)

1pm meeting, have lunch before you come.

Will pass the message on. I’ll give her your contact details as well.

I’ll PM you her number.

Also, where in Westmere is your place located, Hannah?? O_o

After talking about the position further with Mila she declined to join as her reasons were it would be “way too big of a responsibility for a newbie like her”.

In the meantime, I will keep asking around to those who I think may want to join, have the time etc.

If no one replies then the Flagship will just have to endure this weekends meet with Malu, Hannah, Daphne and Joe as the attendees and see where they go from there.

If, after this weekends meet, they all agree that they need an extra writer or two, I will willingly keep asking around.

: DDD

After a sucessful meeting this afternoon, I would like to officially welcome Craig and Prema to the team. Some good new ideas and discussions were had.

Kiaora!

This is just to let people know that we have mostly done the casting of the characters to the players that have registered. However, we have decided that its not much point telling you what your character is until we can also give you the details of the planet and species and costuming guides that are in the process of being written. This is the focus for the next week, so sorry, people will have to be patient about this still.

For those in the larping community who have not got around to registering for the Gordian Knot, or filled in the questionnaire, I would strongly suggest you do. We have 109 players already. Anna has suggested we extend our game from 110 to 120 players. But this will be the a definite cut-off number. We have had lots of newcomers joining up, with more each day. So, stop being slack and get onto it.

People who have paid will be sent their character blurbs first.

This post has made me very very excited :stuck_out_tongue:

Got my initial briefing for The Gordian Knot. It’s great stuff, very well done.

With those races and costume suggestions this game is going to look nuts, in a good way.
