Bad Dreams: Alien. Need someone for logistics

Bad Dreams: Alien is a horror game based on the movie Alien. It is set aboard Nostromo as a bunch of truckers try to make a simple shipping run. What could possibly go wrong?

The game is for 12 players and was successfully run at Battlecry a few years back. Since Prometheus is coming out this year I thought it would be cool to rerun it.

The Bad Dreams GM’s write and run games but we’re absolutely horrible at organizing and logistics so we’re looking for someone to do it for us. It will guarantee our endless love and a place in the game.

What we originally used was a hall which we dimly lit ourselves and had a lot of partitions to make tunnels and separate rooms, with a couple of side rooms to boot. Something like that would work again but we’re open to other ideas too.

Would anyone be willing to take up the mantle?

If I organise it in Wellington, would you come down?

:frowning:

Sure. Depending on the timing and if Gaffy can make it as well. I’ll have a chat with him about possible timings.

I’m going to enquire about the use of my work for this.

No guarantees, but we have long coridors, separate rooms, and the Auckland Council Chambers which would be quite neat at night.

I also have an idea of a venue, but need to ask first. Any idea of approximate date?

This is the other part of the Bad Dreams being horrible at logistics. I’m not that familiar with the calendar at the moment, I’ll try to look into it on the weekend but I think we can be pretty flexible. It is designed to be approximately 3+ hours long so all we need is one evening. I’d like to have it close to the release of Prometheus, but I’m happy to change to make it easier availability wise.

Prometheus is set to come out around 7 June in NZ from what I can find online.

I’ve taken a look at the calendar and the weekend before that (Fri 1 June - Sun 3 June) doesn’t currently have anything going in Auckland.

The following weekend has The Phoenix Rising game on Saturday, but Fri and Sun are free.

Hope that helps

Sounds like the beginnings of a plan.

Shall I tentatively book you in on the calendar for that date, pending venue confirmation?

Yes and I’ll have a look at my performance schedule and double check there.

OK, done. Let us know ASAP if that date is a definate yes as that’ll help with finding a venue.

Hannah, I’ll let you know if my work doesn’t pan out. It probably won’t, but it was worth a shot to ask (am just awaiting a reply).

Okay, talked to Gaffy and we’re happy to run Alien on the weekend of Fri 1 June - Sun 3 June.

Chris, do you think you can get us an appropriate venue on the Saturday, 9th of June in Wellington?

I would certainly have a shot at finding something appropriate. Rough idea on how big you want the hall? Do we need to sort out partitioning stuff? Is rope / black cloth appropriate for making corridors? Any pictures of what you had set up last time?

flick me a PM with some more details about what we need and I’ll try get something sorted by end of week.

I’ll post it here since it’s not particularly secret. When I did the first time it was in a school gym hall. It does not need to be in a hall. What counts is having approximately 6 separate rooms with corridor space where you can run in. Outside access to rooms is a bonus. We won’t be able to bring much apart from the essentials from Auckland so if it’s a hall then partitioning will be needed, yes. Rope and black cloth is perfectly fine as far as I’m concerned for corridors or partitions. Don’t have any pictures as it was run at Battlecry, but it was really simple. Minimal set dressing. In fact, we pretty much didn’t have any set dressing available. We just used darkness.

The game is only for 12 players.

What she said.

OK, I’ve yet to hear from my employers. Our floor has six rooms and a long hallway - it’d be perfect! So I’ll call them up tomorrow and try and convince them to let me use the place.

Hannah, how’re you getting on with your venue-hunt?

I’ve started looking around at some of the other Auckland Council community halls. Cheap-as, but usually one big space - and they don’t have partitions.

Shall carry on.

And, also, since bagsing seems to be the theme of this thread now, I totally bags a spot in the game in Auckland!

All the Bagsies have been noted

Ditto.

Though if you’re coming all the way down, and we have to build a set for it, it seems wasteful to only get one game from it.

Apparently Morgue still has Alien heads from Apocalypse all those years ago. We may be able to borrow some.
