Arriving Early and Helping Set Up

Hi guys,

Every year I get a lot of offers of people arriving early to help set up, so I thought I’d make a brief post on what there is to do for set up, and at what time.

Please do not arrive earlier than 4pm.
It’s really flattering that there are people so keen that they want to start waiting for Chimera on the steps of Motu Moana from like noon (makes me feel like we’re a rock concert or something cool) but it will just annoy Motu Moana, and there will be nothing for you to do until I arrive.

I will be arriving on site (all things going according to plan) at 4pm. The gear trailer will be arriving at about 4:30pm. So 4:30pm is the earliest I will have things for folk to do  Rowena and I will have some things in her car that will need unloading but that can be unloaded with the main gear around 4:30pm. When Elle arrives with the food for the weekend, we will need help unpacking that - I will post when I know what her ETA is. I will need someone to take some blue-tak and stick 30 copies of the weekend timetable around the camp, we will need help loading soft drinks into the fridge, and also labeling candy with price stickers. If you arrive super early and are all settled in when the hordes arrive, I would very much appreciate some human sign posts, to help direct human traffic across the whole camp. I can brief you on the day.

It is also great if people help each other - please ask your fellow attendees if they need help getting there, or need a lift to get some dinner on Friday night.

Thanks guys. Can everyone expecting to arrive earlier than 5pm give me a heads up so I know who will be floating around early?

I’ll be there before 5 and will have TazzyD with me

ill be there either at 4 or 4:30

As she said, I will be more than happy to be a human sign post, or stick up timetable posters

Aim for four thirty if you can

I’m heading up a day early for work and will be able to show up early to help with setup.

Kahu and I will be there probably before 4pm so we can suss out the forest, so when we are needed we will be there to help.

Please do not turn up before 4pm. Motu Moana does not expect us on site until 4pm. There will be in excess of three hours to scope out the forest if you arrive at four.

ok so when i arrive at 4:30 am i alound to pick my room then dump my stuff then help with the overall togetherness of stuff

No, cause you can’t turn up before 4 pm, te he he…

A question about bunk space.

Are all the bunks pretty much going to be needed?

I ask because if not, is it OK if we pick a room, and then use one bunk to store stuff on. There isn’t a lot of space for suitcases and hanging things in these rooms, so if it’s OK, it would be awesome if we are allowed to “waste” a bunk for storage…

What say you?

Norm - I’m bringing my car, so if it helps you’re welcome to store stuff in that since you’re coming over to mine on Sunday night anyway.

Unfortunately, we do not really have the bunks to spare for that. We lose two rooms to gear (nzlarps gear) and we have almost capacity coming to stay. with about a ten bunk margin, i would only really allow for a storage bunk for those stay in mowgli, because those rooms are way cramped.

Secondly, and unrelated to Norm’s post, I’m concerned about people turning up to early for the sole purpose of getting “good” rooms. I understand some people have good reason for needing locked rooms (out of towners, the photograohers etc) but they’ve talked to me about that. If people are going to make an issue of this, then out of fairneas to those that can’t arrive until seven, thirty (which is when the event actually opens) then I either won’t let anyone get rooms until seven thirty or will randomly assign early arrivals to mowgli or ouketane. If anyone has a good, fair solution for how to not penalise either the oeople who arrive early out of necessity or those who arrive later out of neceasity, please post.

Room ballot conducted before arrival? It would mean you don’t get to pick who you’re sharing with, though.

This could prove disastrous based on people either wanting to be with or away from certain people. I snore bad, so if I get a room, then people can choose to sleep in the same one as me! MWahahahahahah :smiling_imp:

Though it would mean you get to meet new people  Nothing bonds people together like walking in on someone in their under clothing.

Well, there’s always super glue…

Fair warning and speaking of underwear, if we randomise completely I’ll be looking for help putting on corsetry…

Sweeet, I need a hand getting into mine too

There will be no complete randomisation, I’m not that mean.
