Arriving Early and Helping Set Up

Randomisation of rooms for the first people to show up, but then let the laters arrivals choose who they bunk with?
Hmm, not sure if I’m conveying my idea at all well. But something along those lines, anyway…

I know what you mean, Dave, it’s basically what I settled on.

In conclusion: Rooms at Puketane are NOT first in first served. Arriving early does not give free pick of “prime” beds (come on guys, they’re all the same!) Any other feedback onreasons someone may need mowgli or ouktane specificly?

The Wellington Horde (Airmobile Division) needs to be all in one place so that we can all leave on time on Sunday.

Yup, cause a conversation between you all before then saying “Be ready to leave at xxx o’clock” would never work :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

runs

i just have a lot of stuff id like to dump before i help out (as im sure everybody else does) so its less to pick a good room (even though i have a group i want to Bunk with) and more i just want my stuff to be sorted and safe before i run around using my massive guns to lift heavy stuff and flirt with all the pretty young woman … and stuff

We’re on a really tight timetable for departure, and we can’t afford to piss about or run the risk of miscommunication or delay due to people having to trek from one end of the camp to the other.

No worries about wanting to stow your stuff before helping, that’s perfectly understandable. I don’t need help flirting with the young women though, so if that’s why you’re coming early, there’s no need, I have all the flirting covered.

wink-wink

I apologise if I ask a question which concerns secret information, but what’s the general plan on assigning people in rooms? I ask because at Chimera two years ago I somehow got in room with three guys (I was the first one there! They all came later…), one of them I only met on the day, the other I vaguely virtually knew, and the other other was Derek. Minding that Chimera involves changing costumes every several hours I would feel much more comfortable if I bank with people I know well enough, or if I don’t know them I’d rather them being women, this way changing can be concurrent and it’s easy to get help when you need it.

I’ll cover off a couple of points here:

  1. I try and put people with people they’ll be comfortable with. When you come get a room, please let me know what your preferences are and I’ll try and accommodate them (please don’t say, “no snorers”, I can’t tell if someone snores just by looking at them) to the best of my ability. Single-gender bunk rooms are all okay.

  2. There is a message going around Facebook asking people to not turn up before six. This is legit. Basically, we don’t really have enough to do as set up to keep 30+ people occupied for hours, and the event doesn’t even start until 7:30pm. Unless you are a) part of the Chimera team, b) doing a job for the Chimera team, c) arriving from out of town or d) have cleared it with me, don’t arrive before six. It is actually the most helpful thing to do it. It gives the team the space to set up. We have enough out of towners arriving early that the unloading and set up is covered.

We encourage people to organise their own pre-Chimera get-togethers at New Lynn or Titirangi and make their way en masse to Chimera.

Thanks,
Anna
