Zombie Apocalypse

Set in modern times.

The power goes out and all the radios and cellphones stop working. A group of people gathered in a house are beset on all sides by every horror creature the GMs can conceive, their objective simply to survive until dawn, when help should be arriving; but it couldn’t hurt to mount an escape plan B…

Required:
-A large amount of LARP-safe household objects, or a system which would accomodate using regular household objects as impromptu weapons or tools (such as Nightmare Circle’s slo-mo fist combat)
-LARP-suitable firearms
-Lots of monster makeup and kit.

How would one go about mounting this project?

Has to be done.

Household items can often be carved out of foam, painted and used to hit people with. But you’re right, it’d be better to be able to just use as a weapon, even if that’s harder to physrep. Maybe you just need some super-dedicated prop makers to make fridge doors, bottles of milk, footstools and toaster ovens that are larp safe.

I think it would benefit much more from just having a combat system that incorporated the use of actual household objects, and then placing foam physreps of dangerous items like knives at the site of the actual objects.

I think this game would also do well with a smallish player group-- no more than 10-- and a fair number of respawning NPCs, to recreate things like zombie hordes more accurately.

You’re describing an event I ran years ago. Foam knives in the drawer, foam baseball ball in the games room, unloaded airguns.

I used rules based on a “virtual game world” where PCs could use anything they found in the real world in the game, with GM help if it was dangerous to actually do. So a can of petrol found in a car could be used to set a zombie on fire, after it had been replaced by a safe container of water by a GM.

Go to homepages.ihug.co.nz/~genome/larp/ then Resources then Modern Game Rules to see the rules we used.

I’ll build the phys rep of the lawn mower. It’ll need to spray blood around of course.

sounds great.
Let me know if you need any help with it. i’d be keen to join in.

Cue zombie noises…
“murgh! argh! Brains”

Zombies in games come up in Quest games quite often (hell i play a necromancer, I’ve raised a few myself). I’ve got an idea for a module rattling round in my head (involving as many zombies as possible) but its not quite finished yet.
So far it’ll be a last stand or holdout mission based on a single location and cycle a couple of times so that everyone gets to play a zombie (or 20) and everyone gets to play the grim heroes.
As I said not a fully formed idea but maybe people have some input on this? And interest levels on who might like to attend down here in Hamilton.
