Your name
If yes - to what name you wanna change?

 • Should my acting career come to fruition as planned, I’ll simply change my name to either one of these self-proposed screen/stage names, choosing between Johnny or Jean, the French equivalent. Either way, I’m adopting my old name’s middle name of Malcolm as a surname.
try the Porn star name game, take the name of your childhood Pet, and the street you lived on as a kid.

Which makes me Starsky Hereford 8)

Um … “Lancelot St Peter” sounds like a gay porn star to me

I second this.

I didn’t have pet in childhood, and the street I lived on was called The Twenty-Six Baku Commissars Street.

I will never be a porn star.
What’s your name?
Simone

with my last name (Michaux)
Hmm… I would pronounce Simone with short “o”, stress on “o”, and “n” would sound like “ng” in “doing”, with no “g” sound in it, just that special “n”. Michaux would be with short “i” and with “aux” sounding as short “o”.
So, I would do this in completely French way, and probably unable to do in some other way…
How wrong that would be?

What’s your name?
The whole full shebang that is on the birth certificate is Marie-Luise but I’ve gone by Malu my entire life.

What does it mean? Marie comes from Mary, which in the Hebrew I believe means bitter? Luise is the German/French equivalent of Louise.

Why you received that name?
My parents liked the name. Also I found out that my dad had a girlfriend once whose elder sister was Marie-Luise, with the nickname Malu and he liked it enough to remember it.

Do you like it?
I think my full name is pretty, and ok for use in official and uber-formal settings but most of the time I don’t use it.

How do you react when you hear your name said or see it written?
I am Malu, look, it’s me. There is always a little double take though when someone calls me Marie-Luise, like ‘Oh, you actually mean me’

Are there many people around with the same name? Never encontered another Malu. Heard about them.

Have you gotten into any troubles because people can’t remember or pronounce your name correctly? No problem apart from the annoyance. I work in a contact centre so I get people calling me Molly and Mala resonably regularly. I just roll with it, takes too long to explain. The spelling thing gets interesting sometimes, what with the extra r’s and o’s that people shove in. One thing I cannot stand is being called Mary-Louise in the broadest kiwi twang. Brings out my murderous instincts.

How do you deal with those troubles? If I speak to you more than once or twice I’ll correct you, otherwise, meh, unless you call me Mary-Louise of Mary-Lou in which case, whatch out.

Wow, I always thought Malu is a Polynesian name, as I’ve read it in some book, but it was a high-action-adventure thing, so might be mistaking it…
I would never guess you have such a full name (hehe, now I managed to say this phrase to someone instead of hearing it myself all the time!)

I sometimes get called Lesley :imp:

Oh dear… This one sounds so cowboyish to me…

Hey, hey hello…

… I’ll be good.

I second this.

I didn’t have pet in childhood, and the street I lived on was called The Twenty-Six Baku Commissars Street.

I will never be a porn star.

I am so sorry Lucy but i found that very funny

Jack Lexington. Hmm…

That idea might have legs.

Camille Ransom Smyth? Lol.

What if you lived on heaps of different streets as a kid? Cambridge, Waterloo, High, Heart (and those are just the ones I remember)
Also, my cat’s name is unwritable. The closest I could get it Lullie (with an umlaut over the u)

Wersal Beaconsfield.

That… kinda works.

Pussenrah Cromwell?

Nope. I don’t think I have what it takes to make it big in the porn industry :open_mouth:

Casey Cornish… sheesh :unamused:

Today’s trivia.

In China and Taiwan, if you have a common name, such as ‘Sho-mei’ (pretty face), ‘Mei-ling’ (‘exquisite beauty’), ‘Catherine’ or ‘Steven’, then it is referred to as a ‘Night Market Name’ - IE, something you can pick up for $1 at the back-of-a-lorry markets. Chinese names are/should be constructed brand new each time from two characters.

My Chinese name is ‘Kuo Wei-fu’ which was consructed by Meiling (my scarier half).

:arrow_right: Kuo : Meiling’s family name (note that family comes first in Taiwan…) Very old word only used as a surname now but originally something to do with a city wall.
:arrow_right: Wei-fu : Powerful husband (no, not joking). These characters are taken from the phonetic transliteration of my real name into chinese - ‘Steve Shipway’ is transliterated as ‘Shi-wai Si-ti-fu’, so the last characters are ‘wei-fu’.

Pick one I guess, Lullie Waterloo maybe.

excuse me while i shoot milk out of my nose

this is so much fun it deserves its own thread, so we dont hijack lucy’s

An excellent thought. Will you do the (dis)honours?

Yes, lets get our own Porno thread.

So speaks “Penny Durham”.

Either way, this is too fun. Jack Lexington, may have business cards made with that name simply because it screams “well-endowed”.

for some of us (thankfully) it is just not meant to be:
Tigger State-Highway-2

It fails to roll off the tongue

I’m not the only State Highway!
Perhaps we’re related?
Regards,
Porrit State Highway 16.
