Writing a Game

Hey guys,

As I’ve been talking about over in the Game Idea forum, I’ve been discussing doing a Steam Punk LARP, I’ve got most of the rules down, and have a fair idea of the world’s history, but am having severe trouble in actually coming up with a one off larp to try out some time down the line.

I have one or two ideas in the peanut known as my brain, I’m just not sure how one goes about writing one. Any tips or tricks to this? Is there a format I could adapt?

Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

What’s your game’s Theme? (Steampunk is the genre, but what kinds of issues or types of game play do you want to see explored?)
What things do you think are coolest about Steampunk?
Is this a campaign? Are the players making their own characters?
Do you want the characters competing against each other, or an external GM-supplied antagonist. (Many campaigns have both, but lean to one side of the spectrum.)
If you were trying to sell it to someone who had never larped before, what things would you tell them?

I found using a wiki ( www.wikidot.com ) a good way to organise LARP development, particularly with pregen-type LARPs - although its just as good with non-pregen I think.

  • Get a list of characters
  • Get a list of plotlines
  • Tie them together, making sure noone is over or under-used.
