Wonderful!

I would just like to thank Anna for organising an awesome LARP at the joust. It made the day that much special!

Oh cool! Tell us all about it!

I got to kidnap a young and beautiful damsel. This is a first for me, and it was very entertaining.

I was awesome playing a rather disinterested very cynical Guy of Gisborne who thought the Sheriff was completely incompetent.
“Yes, sir. Of course that makes sense, sir. Of course I shall escort the women, sir, so you can look after the Spanish embassador.”
~later~ “No, sir, I don’t know where the Spanish embassador is, sir. I believe he was with you. I certainly hope that he has not been kidnapped.”

I have some awesome videos of the Joust and I hope to turn it into a small documentary. Hopefully if my plan goes well I will make this one and maybe get funding for a bigger doco next year!

I think the best part was robbing the medieval shop. It really surprised alot of people and we got a good response from the crowd around us. It was a pleasure knocking out scotty but I feel bad about doing it to the sexy german. Gave the kids a bit of a laugh by creeping behind the tents and sneakily tip toeing past the magician the running full pace. I had such an amazing time and those jousters were incredible. Especially Sir Jezz (YEEEEAAAH SIR JEZZ!!!) and Sir Graham both breaking 2 lances, clean in half, each. Nothings gonna stop me going next year.

The larp didn’t go off anywhere nearly the way I planned but that didn’t stop us from having a few wonderful moments.

The Medieval Shop and Hawkwind (master of the Beer Tent) were wonderful sports about being robbed and getting into the spirit of things.

The weekend in general: It was an absolutely stellar event. Heaps of re-enactment groups turned out with period tents - NZ Norse looked particularly fabulous in terms of tents while the Second Legion Augusta took the cake in terms of awesome gear - and the atmosphere was really festive.

The jousting itself was a real pleasure to watch, you ain’t seen nothing like it before. Huge thanks to the larpers who helped enthuse the crowd by going nuts with cheering and clapping and by helping out at the beer tent. Thanks for joining us Cat, I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to say good-bye!

If you’re even remotely interested in medieval/re-enactment stuff, get down there next year. It’s practically free, it’s international grade jousting and there’s a free thermal pool that’s magic to swim in.

Three cheers for the Company of the Lance for giving us that awesome weekend.

A great event, full kodo’s to Anna for taking the bull by the horn in creating, organising and running the Robin Hood larp in what proved a very challenging environment. The games may have been brief but the players obviously enjoyed it, and I know the crowd also enjoyed it. More photos soon.
The jousting was fantastic, I have always wanted to see real jousting and it was everything I thought it was going to be. The thundering and ground shaking of the horses is something you have to experience when at the railing to really appreciate watching a joust. (so much better than TV)
The hot springs are out of this world, especially on Friday night, at midnight sitting in hot water, full moon and steam rising everywhere. I can’t believe this is free in NZ and I never knew.
My only regret is that I did not join in the foot combat.

EDIT: Also gave out a number of NZLARPs cards, interseting to see how many takers we get.

Also, just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words about my organisational skills. It is much appreciated, even if I feel I could’ve done way better. Thanks guys

Kodo’s???

Disinterested…but still the best looking man I saw there :stuck_out_tongue:

But I have to agree a FANTASTIC event… everyone was very freindly and the jousters are more than willing to sit down and have a good chat over a beer at the end of the night…all good sports. So going again next year…maybe not in a larp capacity but definatly going again.

kudos, I think

Ah right thank you, i thought he was talking about mini komodos

hehe, I think I’ve seen one of them

What an amazing event and location!!!

I highly recomend it to everyone, you should definately chekc it out next year. Seriously, watching these nights in shining full plate armour on top of giant horses charging each other down the list with a lance and then shattering those lances on each other was breathtaking. Especially like Gareth said , when Sir Graham and Sir Jez rode the field.

One memorable moment is Sat afternoon when a bunch of us are sitting in the beer tent chatting away and Sir Jez rides his horse into the beer tent and calls for a beer. Which he then proceeded to feed to his horse first before drinking the rest himself.

Going for a midnight swim under the full moon in the natural hot springs of the waikato river with the steam rising up around us and glowing in the moonlight was an almost spiritual experience for me.

The Larp went rather well, I think, in admidst the chaos of the event and the couple of quite public desplays that happened went down well with the crowd. Especially when Maid Marion slapped Robin Hood in the beer tent before our Minstral kidnapped the spanish ambassedor’s daughter, and the robbing of the Medieval SHop. (Thanks Nich and Reiner for their good sport and also Hawkwind, the master of the beer tent for his support too  and the free drinks)

It really was amazing.

Don’t forget the horse taking a crap right in the middle of the drinking area, then the horse proceeding to eat the hay bales we were using as seats.

rofl

Oh yeah! lol

Just wanted to post to say thank to all of you who took organised and took part in the larp. You folk put a crap load of effort into it and were even really good about my sick sense of humour and my ‘orders’ to try and enliven the crowd (who were difficult at the best of times).

Thanks to you all, lets hope we can get a similar thing happening for the champs.

Sounds cool, and the pictures look great (especially the swords  ).

Did any of the public get involved in the larp?
