They also make chainmail to order
These were a guiding light in designing props for the game. Unfortunately they’re classic movie prop stuff - completely functionless and made for special effects artists to add their functionality later.
I have limited edition number 151 of 500 mini manmelters.
Man melter… drool
You have one of the ray guns! When did you get that!?
I have the MINI man-melter, the match-box edition not the full sized piece. Like the full sized piece, it’s a delightful design with plenty of extraneous and inexplicable electro-rubbish. Unfortunately it also has no moving parts - let alone flashing lights and loud noises and force feedback etc. I’d love for someone to make one of these that gave you a sensation of working.
Wouldn’t that involve melting people you pointed it at?
I think the point of sensation of working is that it makes a noise, has a nice kick back, and vibrates in the way you would expect from the real thing. I some how doubt that any of us would actually expect to be able to use an actual working ray gun at a larp, let alone Craig who is a self proclaimed hippy pacifist. but a nicely built prop, now theres something worth thinking about working on.

I justed contact Weta about their chainmail to see if Paddywhack could stock it for larpers, they said they’re only supplying big film jobs at the moment but will get back to me if/when that changes.
That would have been great if they could…shame
I emailed Weta about the Chain a couple of days back too, same response of course. So I guess they’ll now think we are interested.
Plus I said to them that if they need any extras willing to wear chainmaille etc. for them then to contact us/nzLARPs. Don’t think it’ll help but you never know… although I can give up my hope to play a hobbit, I have the hairy feet but at 5’10"(ish) I might be a little too tall…
Unlike Elijah Wood, who is 3’6"?
you would make a better yeti - all that hair
And John Rhys-Davis (Gimli) is actually taller than Orlando Bloom (Legolas)
Technology can do such amazing things.
Yeah I know but all the extra’s Hobbits had to be 5’ or less.
Anyways John Rhys-Davis also spent a LOT of time on his knees. Especially if he was in shots with the other characters.
And he also had severe reactions to the prosthetics, to the point it was hard to breathe & his face was swollen up. But he manned it up & dealt with it, so thats pretty hard of him really.
But yeah, regardless of role (and this is off topic) who’d like to be cast in the upcoming Hobbit? Me, thats who!
So yeah back on topic, lets just wait & see what happens when they make some chainmaille for the Hobbit & see what falls in our direction… I believe filming is set for 2009 so not too far away.
Leave accumulation about to start. I will be smaug.
Damn damn damn.
