Found this pretty good tutorial on creating wine skins.

It seems a pretty awesome leather site, with lots of tutorials and a community of leather workers to answer questions. Really want to try!

I had an idea for a wineskin… you could get a cheap hot water bottle and cover it with leather stick a bit of cork over the top and TADA instant wine skin?? what do others think?

I think it would taste terrible, based on how most hot water bottles smell, but it would work…

Plastic bag on the inside should avoid the taste of rubber.

Hygiene has to be a big consideration with this kind of thing. The easiest thing is probably to make a cover for a bottle of some sort that is intended for drinking out of. And make the cover removable, so you can take out the bottle inside and wash or replace it.

You can often find toy wineskins like this in toyshops:

Water bottle, Scrap of leather, hole punch, either leather lacing, shoe lace or twine and you’re set.
Just wrap the leather around the bottle, make some holes, lace it up, with a flap over the top, you can put a button on it or a fasterner of some sort if you want.
Couple of holes around the top and some extra string to make a sling to go over shoulder/head etc. The pourer/lid might stick out as no exactly in period, but most wineskins like above are the same, if your bothered, get a cork and don’t use the lid.

If anyones looking, Living and Giving have these cool flat drinkbottles that you could put leather or whateva u want to make a wineskin type bottle. They have a clip too so it can clip on your belt if needed.

Hah! I work for the company that imports those things  They’re fantastic. I had one at the last Teonn game, sans any kind of IC covering unfortunately  It was a last minute decision to bring it (hence no IC covering) but it was a great one. They’re very sturdy, fold up when they’re empty, and don’t run the risk of breaking if you fall on it in combat. And they’re great for IRL use too.

My solution was to go to an antiques store, and buy a ceramic bottle, clean it out, apply cork, voila. Problem is though, if it doesnt have any ears, you will need a bag, or some other holder (Belt with cupholder anyone?) and there is ofcourse the problem of weight and possible breaking. But then again, a wineskin can rip when it comes into contact with pointy rocks =D.

My local $2 shop has “camping flasks”, slightly curved flattish bottles with a metal cap. Some spraydos and leather later, and you have an effective IC canteen.

For Wellington people: Comrades on Cuba street has wine skins again. $24 each

They also have something that looks suspiciously like leather armour… it’s almost as if they know about us.
