Which political parties support larping?

As it happens, there is exactly one party with MPs who have larped.

And it’s the Greens !

Nandor (who is no longer an MP) was a regular Skirmisher, while Metiria is a founding Skirmisher. And she crewed at the recent Multiverse weekend game.

As it happens, a lot of the Multiverse crew are Green Party members. Kath is a candidate and on the Campaign Committee, Worik is on the Executive, and I’m #16 on the list and an electorate candidate.

I’m organising a fundraising larp for the morning of Saturday October 11th.

It’s a Kids Skirmish, and will be held at Western Springs. I need help !

We need lots of crew, for Major Encounter roles and for Combat Interlude roles (kids love the combat aspect !).

So, let me know if you are interested in using your awesome larping abilities to support Green politics, entertain a bunch of kids and save the planet all at the same time !

This is always awesome amounts of fun and great to improve ducking and blocking reflexes. Count me in!

if the hospitality was anywhere near as good as it was last time count me in Mike

You seem to forget I have seen some of the Greens environmental policy.

As theGreen party seems to live in fantasy world with no connection to emperical evidence, I would say the Green party is a very successful fantasy Live Role Play anyway.

OK, I am so lost  Are you all suggesting that the Greens are worth voting for because they did/do LARPing? They are like arts students attempting to do science! Sue Kedgley supported a ban on dihydrogen monoxide (which is WATER!) and Sue Bradford brought in that stupid Anit-Smacking law that doesn’t allow parents to discipline their children by smacking them, aswell as proposing that pokie machines be banned. The possibilities of catching up with the rest of the world technologically (with GE and nuclear power) are nill thanks to their dumb-arse “anti” political drives. Voting for the Green Party because they support LARPs is just daft :unamused:

No, what Mike is saying is that he’s running a larp event for kids to support the Green party and do any of us want to come play. He didn’t even use the word ‘vote’ in his post.

And I’m not sure why you’re taking random potshots at Arts students, I mean we really have nothing to do with any of this

Maybe its just me, but I am offended reading peoples political opinions (e.g. Jenna) in a forum about one of my favourite hobbies. When I want to read about political stuff I do so elsewhere. I want to live in a fantasy world here. Can we please just leave it all out?

Running a LARP to raise money for a specific political party is political stuff.

.

raising money for NZ larps is political otherwise we wouldnt have elections for the nz larp committie - nuff said any futher complaints about this being a method of extortion then take it to: Green politics

Otherwise - Who would actually like to encourage some youngsters to try larping in a park in Auckland with like minded larpers who just want the community to grow?

As I said before - im in.

Posting info about a LARP game in a LARP forum is fine.

Since its an event to support a political group, disclosing this in advance is good practice (and the polite thing to do in any case). I’ve no objections as there’s no propaganada…

I’d be there if family commitments didnt preclude it :frowning:. Maybe in a few years I’ll be bringing elder spawn along to play…

I personally dont support Green party politics, and for this reason I will not be offering my services for this game. That said, I think running larps for kids is an excellent idea, and I hope it goes well for you. I had actually been looking in to the possibility of running a very similar sort of thing as part of the public library’s summer program. I would be very keen to help out if you run something similar in the future in a more politically neutral context.

And Anna, Jenna wasn’t taking potshots at Arts students simply using them as an analogy for people skilled in a particular area who instead work in a different area of skill, a baker fixing cars would be a similar analogy. After all Jenna is an arts student herself.

Xcerus, if I understand correctly the LARP is intended to raise money for the Green party, not NZLARPS which makes it political in a different way to the society. I dont believe anyone here is claiming this to be extortion. As Anna has pointed out, this is being run independently of NZLARPS and Mike is just letting people who might be interested know that its on.

Hey guys, I didn’t mean to offend anyone, I wanted to point out that endorsing a political party because they support our hobby seems a little tunnel-visioned. And BTW I wasn’t making a dig at the Arts students (I am one myself!); I meant it as a metaphorical comparison for being outside one’s specialty. Anyway, I’m sorry for ticking people off and straying away from the topic.

Perhaps, instead of arguing the point, we could simply answer Mike’s question. Its seems simple enough really, do we want to go, or not. I personally do not, but then I have never been to a Skirmish game. but this dosnt in any way reflect on my political standing. So, no thank you mike, I shall not be coming.

Amen, lets answer the question, the last time this was run was an awesome amount of fun. Although i didn’t take part Heath and Eloise did, and they had a great time, they couldn’t stop raving about all the cool stuff they got to do, especially Rhiannon as the dracokin faerie creature.

If i can organise the time i will happily go along, besides heres a chance to introduce a whole new generation to the joys of larping as well as helping out a friend who asked for assistance, politics aside.

I be there to help, plus need to improve my reflrexes a bit

Hi Mike, I’d like to help for apolitical reasons. I need to check with the wife but if I can bring our kids along (for free in exchange for my time maybe?) then it could be a goer. Need to clear it first but will get back to you.

Somehow I don’t think it’s going to be quite the training exercise you’re expecting dude :stuck_out_tongue: but assuming I’m not having to move house or anything that weekend, I should be up for it as well

Fighting kids is a good way to improve your endurance - they hit HARD!

However, you won’t improve your reflexes. They will hit you no matter what.

Off topic but when I “larp fight” I find my step-kids make much better sneaky rogues than they do stand up fighters.

Just wait until your back is turned, then wack across the kidneys.

They do a good job of following basic rules too!

Kids like roleplaying, they do tons of it all the time. And my step kids want to participate in what I do all the time (sorry Porl, you found that out the hard way, even though I had specifically told them they were to observe only  Who the heck gave them those swords? ).

What is good fun is to watch them run in mock terror as I assume the classic zombie walk and groan… they all know what I am, even without makeup or costume…

Sweet, no worries.

We’ve been running (apolitical) Kids Skirmishes for a few years, and I’d like to run one this summer - maybe at North Head - and I’ll be posting here to see who wants to be involved.

We ran the first Green Kids Skirmish as a fundraiser during the 2005 campaign and it was totally the best fun I’ve had fundraising ever. It even beats working the Grey Lynn Park festival.

Re reflexes etc, I reckon that you get a really good defensive workout as there is lots of parrying to be done. We do ask the kids to go easy, but so reason they all get very excitable during the adventure…

Cheers for all the offers of support. This will be a very cool way to spend a morning
