Wheel Chair

Does anyone have or know where to get really cheap a wheel chair that would fit in at Mordavia, ie made of wood and not modern, for the next weekend game?

Wheelchairs are super-complex and never cheap!

I quite like this one with its starting bid of $200…

ouch, looks good but as you say expensive.

Er, maybe take an existing, metal, chair, and dress it up some? I dunno, drapes of cloth or bundles of twigs to cover the most obvious bits?

It’s not going to be wonderful, but it’s cheap, and a tip of the hat in the right direction. Wheelchairs aren’t period anyway. (Now, if you could get a sedan chair, plus bearers, that’d be cool).

If he is asking for himself, and playing his current Mordavian character, then he has many attendants for his sedan. I always wanted a Palanquin myself, but I cant find anyone who is willing to carryi it for me, so I might have to wait a while for that to happen.

It is actually for a friend of mine who is thinking of playing who is in a chair.
There is also the problem of the stairs in the inn, there are a number of them and getting up could be problematic.

Since the chair is a player requirement rather than a costume, it may be necessary to just have their normal one and drape it in cloth, or affix round wooden ‘wheels’ to the real wheels, or something, and rely on acting to ignore the rest. A wheelchair is an anachronism in itself, but better that than miss out on the game. Have them play the part of a noble who will have an attendant (someone can volunteer for that role?) to get up steps.

Having said all that, the weekend Mordavia game and venue are, by definition, not very wheelchair-friendly. So much of it is in the woods, running about, sword fights, and so on. The day games with more indoors role-playing would be far more suitable…

On a slightly unrelated note, they could play in Og if they want to. I have one role of the tribe shaman who basically stays in camp all the time (so no real need to be mobile at all) but is a fairly heavy role-playing part. Of course theres a bit of an issue about how to actually GET there, what with all the sand and so on… but its a thought, if this person is keen to get into LARP.

Being a Scout camp I would have though that Motu Moana would be wheelchair-friendly. But you’re right, there are a lot of short stairs in the Inn. One down into the bar-room, one up into the hall.

I agree with Steve about the wheelchair.

If there is a player, who needs a wheelchair to get around and who instead organises themself a palanquin, I will happily play a slave character for them and help them get around. I’d want to discuss character concepts, but this would certainly fit into my current character concept. Someone else will need to carry the other end.

Note: I’m likely to only be at about half of the next Mordavia game.

You’d be able to work out a great character background of a noble injured in some battle, or a venerable mage, and so on…

Would this sort of in-character injury count as a Disadvantage and thus qualify for a balancing Advantage (eg, Noble for free?)

You could easily be (eg) a white mage from a palanquin, although frequent use of Recall to travel between Inn and keep might annoy the slaves

Nope. The purpose of advantages in Mordavia is to make characters more interesting (within the heroic fantasy genre), not more powerful. While Mordavia can be played as a game of power, that’s not at the heart of what it’s about.

Derek’s picture of a sedan chair/palanquin doesn’t look at all hard to put together. You’d want the workmanship to be on the solid side (ie. get someone who knows their woodworking), but it looks doable.

If nobody but Derek wants to be a bearer slave all weekend, why not share out the duties some (as in kitchen police), with people temporarily dropping into an NPC bearer role.

Mordavians are nice people, yes? I think it can be done.

Clearly, the mage stands at the back and has their spell scrolls stuck to the back of the chair.

I’d be glad to lend a hand for at least some of the game. It would suit that the chair’d guy plays an eccentric noble who is simply too lazy to walk around for himself. He’d have slaves at his disposal, some played by NPCs when necessary, who would kiss his feet and cart him around all day. It’s Dracula - era Romania, so that kind of egocentric madness is rife

But I reckon it’s high time we got this guy on the site to feed back on these ideas personally!

He just left for a holiday in England. When he gets back in a few weeks I show him this thread. At this stage he is not sure if he can play. 80 % chance he can.
I’m just getting ideas now, better earlier than later.
