We went to a great night in Whangarei last night, The first screening of the first episode of the Whangarei made Tv Series Steampunk Spacepirates. Fabulous fun movie which had a Red Dwarf sort of feeling to it. The cast were really interesting folk, and we partied hard with them at the Steampunk Ball . 200 people dressed in Steampunk gear all from Whangarei. The reason I am mentioning this is that there were a lot of people there interested in LARPING, including the stars of the movie. (great folks) There eyes lit up as we told them about Chimera, Teonn etc. It would be very easy to get Whangarei into the fold, and if NZlarp took a team up and did say , the Great Exhbition, Governor’s Dinner , Reunion, Hindenburg etc with Wangarei folks, I feel that there would be a new very keen group only 2 hours North. Not just dreaming about this. These Whangarei folks are rapid keen to do some Larping, and they have lots of friends. (200 locals at the Ball for starters) . There is a fabulous hall in downtown Whangarei, the old library community Arts Centre, and this would be a fine place to run a Larp.
Do you know of someone up there willing to help set up things up there?
I don’t actually know any Larpers up there as such yet, that i know of (probably do, just don’t know that i do ), but quite are lot of keen starters. Anyway, we are going to most likely run a Larp at the Steampunk event we are yet to advertise for the 23rd June at Puhoi (near Orewa) , and the Whangarei peeps will be coming to that. Hopefully from that there will be a contingent build from Whangarei for Chimera etc and who knows from there.
I saw the photos from the ball and was pleasantly suprised at the huge numbers packed into the hall. Yahn’s onto a great idea.
