We’ll be featured in the coming Sunday Star Times, though I think the section on us will mostly be about Nibelungen. I spoke to Felicity Monk last year for a small piece of her cover-story about groups and clubs.
Cool!
That’s a great article about NZLARPS. Having Nibelungen feature is good because it gets away from the idea that larp is all fantasy.
I bought a Sunday paper, flipped through and couldn’t find the article, figured I had the wrong paper or the article had been eclipsed by Hillary’s death. Were there pictures?
No pictures, we should have sent them the cover of Immersion. It was in the Sunday Magazine section, as part of the cover story. Having a picture would have increased the readership about 100-fold, and the Immersion covers are handsome enough to get taken seriously. Oh well!
Ok, so how do we get ourselves on wikipedia now?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of … nd_history
But it’s out of date and not up to the Wikipedia standard.
It would be good to update that, but more specifically have our own page and also be listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_live_action_role-playing_groups
I don’t know anything about editing wikipedia and was kinda hoping that someone else here does and would be interested in doing the work.
Failing that I guess I’d have to try and learn.
There’s a clause against self-promotion so just be careful there. Check out Wikipedia’s guide to formatting and I’m sure you’ll have no trouble. Preview before posting, test links.
I’ve been doing quite a lot of work on Wikipedia larp articles and I’m familiar with what’s required. I’ve written an article on the subject here:
larpguide.co.uk/pages/larp_articleview.asp?ID=65
Before it has its own article an organisation should meet the English Wikipedia’s criteria for notability:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia: … mpanies%29
The Sunday Star Times is a reliable source, however it might be wise to wait until another article appears focusing specifically on NZLARPS because the depth of coverage in the current article is low and it’s not the sole subject of the article. It’s likely that if you added a Wikipedia article on NZLARPS now it would be challenged, as there are people who patrol that list and challenge articles for which notability is questionable. It may be hard to defend the notability of NZLARPS based just on that article and the various other articles where the society is mentioned in passing.
I’m happy to help write an Wikipedia article for NZLARPS. We could start drafting it now in my user space, and put it up when another reference is available.
I’ve started a draft of the article here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ryan_ … ng_Society
It’s just a skeleton. Feel free to edit and flesh it out.
The “Notes” section is for footnotes that give references to sources of information.
