Wellington needs a Gear Officer for the coming year!

The Regional AGM is getting closer, as is the deadline for nominations, and at present, we don’t have someone standing as Gear Officer. This is a really important role, and a great way to get involved for someone that wants to be part of the community and contribute to the success of LARPs in Wellington.

The gear library is NZLARPS’ most valuable asset, and we need someone with both the time to get gear ready to be borrowed and put it back in the library when returned, as well as attend committee meetings (only 4 a year at present, not including the AGM), and most importantly the space to store all the gear. This second part requires a garage space or similar that you can access easily, and which is available for you to fill with boxes of gear. You need to be organised, as you’ll also need to be able to keep track of it all.

If you think that the Gear Officership is something you could take on, and would like to talk more about it, please get in touch with myself or with Scott via PM. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you’ve got.

If you’re thinking about standing, we also want to reassure you that the committee has a plan in place for making sure that the Gear Library stays organised, and this involves not only us having a gear officer but also the community- GMs and players- taking responsibility for the state of the gear that is borrowed.

All gear borrowed from the gear library needs to returned in the state it was borrowed. That means that in future we will expect GMs and players to make best efforts to return the gear clean and dry. It should be organised and packed away with boxes having the same contents coming back as they had when borrowed. If there is any damage, then the gear officer must be advised of this.

At least 2 -3 weeks notice for gear (a list of what you want to borrow) is required for a game or an event. More notice is required if you are asking for gear that is not currently part of the gear library, to give the committee time to arrange the purchase and the Gear Officer time to find what you’re looking for. Finally, if you are wanting to borrow gear you must try to arrange transport to and from the game.

We plan to have a gear day over the summer where we will be seeking volunteers to help us sort, clean, mend and catalogue the gear library, with the intent that our nice, clean, tidy gear is stored in organised and catalogued boxes.
