Warmachine

I’ve been doing some fairly serious work on WarMachine. I’ve written up an extremely complex behind the scenes system that simplifies down to 2 stats and a few lines for each character. I envision the entire character fitting on something the size of a business card with spells on there own cards.

The system although planned for D&D warmachine would work for any D&D or just about any D20 system. I’m wondering what people think of the concept and who would play. Also I’m curious to see if anyone else has been doing any work on any D&D or other D20 system.

What’s war machine?

I think it’s a minatures wargame based on the Iron Kingdoms D&D setting.

Are you planning a Warmachine larp? if so, I’d be interested to hear your costume plans for steam mecha.

Yes it is indeed a Larp I’m working on. The “Jacks” bothered me as well at first. For the light jacks I’m thinking of a variation on the golem. Because I’m wanting to represent things well I don’t see the need for a heavy war jack as a single heavy warjack will be able to wade through all the PCs for some years to come. Death jacks will also be an interesting challenge.

Due to the area the PCs are in they probably won’t see light jacks of any description for a while.

Man, I’d love to see some steamjack costumes. I reckon that could really make a game, having a few of those stomping around.

Apart from the obvious humanoid single-person ones, you could do some really outrageous stuff. Think about multi-operator costumes and building out rather than up (costumes things get unstable when they get tall). Imagine a four-legged walker jack operated by two people. Cool thing about steamtech is that it doesn’t have to be organically logical (like building a big monster costume does), it could be really weird shapes.

I’m considering some interesting ones like Grundback gunners and bone jacks. But I’d rather get some more basic things sorted out before I had to worry about them.
