Virus warning 'photo231.exe'

right. so knowing how much of the diatribe population are instant message geeks. I thought I would just warn you all about ‘Photo231.exe’

Someone on your contact list could be infected (which is how i found out) and this means that their IM automaticly trys to send this “photo” out to everyone.

I only noticed it was to be avoided when i went to download it thinking it… well. a photo. alas it had .EXE on the end and I furrowed my brow and quitly said. “hey thats not right” so I did some reasearch.

I figured it was quite new as google only found 3 pages O.O two of which were from the same forum site.

Anyhoo it is VERY nasty from what I have read on this… http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=11004

not the original post but should do yah for info.

Again watch out for ‘photo231.exe’ if you are linked it from your IM

Phew, that was close. I was sent photo230.exe (which is obviously okay).

yeah well. when it’s delivery method is through IMs you get the link from trusted people. you almost don’t think to check the name throughly.

which is what the writer obviously had in mind- and it obviously works, not on me thankfully.

I don’t get viruses. You don’t have to either.

Fuckyeah.

some people use quite alot of not for linux software . i.e me :stuck_out_tongue: i.e games >.> but hell there yah go.

I’m pretty good at keeping my compy safe from the idiots of the internetz. SO windows with a nice ‘blackbox’ disguise is what I use :stuck_out_tongue:

all the awesome of blackbox and all the accesibility of windows. only problem is you need a touch of internetz paranoia YAY internetz.

oh well. Just a heads up for windows users

My Windows 98 will keep me safe. :unamused:

If you download a file called photo231.exe you deserve that virus.

not so andrew. well yes and no. yes your right because if you don’t eventually notice the extension you need your PC licence revoked.

but no. beucase of it’s method of getting around - infecting IM’s and then sending nice messages with the photo attached ie “heya heres a picture I wanted you to see (msn download link here)”

one who trusts said person at a glance could just go ahead and click the link. Like I did . I did not get infected. because thankfully my compy asks me where i want to put things before it D/Ls them. thus I finally noticed “.exe”
